Murray to win Wimbledon?

Having just watched Murray dispatch Blake with ease in the final at Queens club,i will be honest i don't particularly warm to Murray, i think he really does have what it take to become Wimbledon champion.

I liked Henman and even though he never quite had what it takes when it came to the "big crunch" match it was great entertainment and well worth the admission price to see him play.

But i will, through gritted teeth i might add, really hope that we get a British champion atlast.

I think The Wimbledon championship is the best on the tour,Tennis on grass, where it belongs, imo.

I think Murray could do it this year, but it's highly unlikely. His game on grass isn't as good as his game on the hard courts just yet. I can see him winning a couple of Slams within the next few years, US open for sure, Wimbledon maybe.

Problem is he hasn't really been tested on grass against the rest of the big players like Djorkovic(who lost in Halle today btw) Federer and Nadal(who might not even be there this year). I think he can beat Nadal and Djorkovic on grass, but Federer... perhaps not :/

He is not as good as his world ranking suggests. This is a point made by many top tennis coaches, including his old coach at Sanchez in Spain. He plays small tournaments around the world that the big players don't go to gain more wins and in turn wins more ranking points. It will be Fed who wins it this year, or Djokovic.

Yer, coz Miami is a small tournament...

He plays at the tournaments everyone else does and consistantly beats Nadal, Federer and Djorkovic on the hard courts.

Glad to see Murray win, i've watched most of his matches in this tournament and I have to say he's been really impressive. He certainly has the potential to win Wimbledon this year and I think he will at least get to the semis, but I can only see Federer winning it tbh. However, Murray's game continues to improve and at this rate I can see him being world number 1 within the next couple of years. What we saw at Wimbledon last year was his lack of stamina holding him back, but he's certainly improved that side of his game recently and he could well be a danger to Fed and Nadal, and Djokovic too in Wimbledon this year.

(Oh, and he's not British, he's SCOTTISH!)

No he doesn't. The reason he beats these players is he plays tournaments and doesnt get to the final most of the time, which these guys do. They have then been playing for weeks without a break whilst he is getting a break. He will never beat Nadal or Fed after they've had a break, which Nadal has now had. Murray won't get to the quaters of wimbledon imo.

Thats also one semi-big tournament. What about the other weeks of the year???

Also what I have said has come from his old coach at Sanchez in Spain. Murray keeps going back to him to try and get him to change his mind, but he won't.

Semi-big? Miami is the generally considered the next biggest after the traditional 4 slams.

He got to the final of the US open beating Nadal on the way. He's won 5 titles this year already(if you include the exibition Abu Dhabi event). Let's have a look at his final opposition he beat to win these titles.

Nadal, Roddick, Nadal, Djorkovic and Blake. Hardly easy opponents.

Also, tennis isn't organised where players can simply slip out and go to the 'easy tournaments'. Theres only a couple of ATP tournaments each week MAX(and the top players are usually all at one) and the masters series are effectively mandatory. Oh and by the way, Murray has been in the finals of 2 out of 5 of the Masters Series events this year alone.

I simply don't understand where these 'small' tournaments that you claim Murray plays in come from.

Also, considering you can only get the serious Ranking points by doing well on the ATP 250/500/1000/Slams tournaments and you need serious points to be ranked 3rd. How the hell would he be so high by playing small tournaments which would undoubtebly offer less points and so not enough to be ranked so high.

Where are these small tournaments of which you speak?

By the way, these are out of date (Sunday)

I think winning Queens is worth 450 points, so tomorrow his points total should be 9570.

I thought it was a 250 tournament this year, though not to sure about that. They shook up the whole points system this year. 250 series. 500 series. 1000 series(masters) and 2000 points for Grand Slam.

And also, I don't know if you did remember this or not, he is defending it against the points he had last year in this tournament, so he got quarters last year so that would be a gain in the points difference from quarters to the final I believe.

Yes I'd remembered he was defending his 110 points from last year but didn't know the points were different this year.

Like the man in the orthopaedic shoes, I stand corrected.

Ahhhhh right, well I think it's a 250 tournament this year, so I would guess that's plus 140?
