saintbletch Posted 15 June, 2009 Share Posted 15 June, 2009 So why do people now think it's this guy then? It's unlikely to be Jim Ratcliffe though isn't it? The Timesonline Rich List for 2009 appears to be offline at the moment but I'm pretty sure that I previously read that he was excluded from the list having previously been 10th one year and then 25th richest person in the UK the next, because given his business' debt problems it wasn't possible to estimate his worth. The Echo covered it here... Now, because of negotiations with banks over his company Ineos’ £6 billion debts, the list’s editors [Timeonline Rich List] say it’s not possible to estimate his true worth. His worth appears to be tied heavily to that of Ineos and as his own business is in need of a little bit of attention at the moment, would he have the time or long-term stomach to invest in Saints? NickG Posted 15 June, 2009 Share Posted 15 June, 2009 if hypothetically this poster is correct - and have no reason to think he is more than others. There are not many on here who 1) on Times rich list 2) part own company with turnover he states -rather than retired/personal fortune/ etc 3) no well known 4) appears on here and couple of other threads Obvious now! putting those - from Iansums ITK claim together with Tony's words I was originally asked by a group of 4 very wealthy business people to become involved with their proposed takeover of SFC. I politely declined their offer of 'employment' since In the end, the group/consortium changed my mind, and to be honest I am now quite glad that they did. Part of what changed my mind was a chat over a coffee with Matt (Le Tissier), where I could see the pure passion and belief that we could make this a success, with the right backing. What followed was a crazy few weeks of working 24/7, by myself and numerous others. That work was geared at arriving to the point that my client was willing to make an offer - not just to buy the club (that's the easy part), but to buy into the concept of sustained investment over the medium-long term to make this great club a success. When I projected the sheer cost of this, a couple of the guys were a little less willing to throw cheques at me. Ultimately I have in fact now entered into this "exclusivity agreement" on behalf of ONE client only. And myself, Matt and others involved are very pleased with that. Gone are the days of petty squabbles. Our one client has SUBSTANTIAL wealth - several hundred million. Irrespective of this however, I am looking at this as a business which can stand on its two feet. But we have the comfort of knowing that if myself/Matt/colleagues make a recommendation for investment (be this for players/staff whatever), it will be catered for. Matt will have a pivotal role at the club - and I would urge you all to never under estimate this mans ability. You all know of his amazing skills as a footballer. As a friend of his for a number of years, I also know the other side of Matt, and believe me, he has a very wise head on those shoulders. We now have 20 days (the clock started ticking yesterday) to get down to the serious business. We'll let the legal people do what they have to for the delisting process of the PLC, transferring of assets to the new holding company, repayment of debt to creditors, and handing over of title to me (on behalf of my client). Meanwhile, Matt and myself and colleagues will be formalising football matters. I'll rely more on their knowledge of the beautiful game, and they'll rely on me to get our client to fund their plans. Its quite simple. This is now a time for unity, and I really do hope that I get all of your support, and the support of the wider community to make this club great again. I will stop at nothing to make this happen guys - but I need bums on seats AND support to achieve this. Together, we can have a club to be proud of once more (and there's me a boyhood Liverpool fan saying that!).

Wade Garrett Posted 17 June, 2009 Share Posted 17 June, 2009 ...wasn't it Chelsea, how'd that song go? "Jim, Jim, Jim Redpath, England's leading psychopath, he only runs when the Chelsea come!" (something like that) He was an early kind of a Saints 'J*hn Westw**d' - self-appointed fans leader - that big scar across his throat, did he get done in 'Stanley Park'? Guess not, they'd never have caught him! Jim "We're the Barmy Archers Army" Redpath, RIP (Runs In Panic). Back to the OP, I'll go along with 'JR' (the other one!). Jim got that scar from a fire. It's a bit insulting to his memory to compare him to that f*ckwit with the bell.

Fair comment, obviously a tongue-in-cheek moment. Of course JR can't really be compared to the "f*ckwit" bellringer, he was harmless and no-one in their right mind would have given him any grief...unlike the extremely punchable Quasimodo... JR, RIP
Hyde and Seek Posted 17 June, 2009 Share Posted 17 June, 2009 I remember Jim very well. He was at St Marys College at the same time as myself. In fact he was well known to Clive Foley as Clive will testify. Jim suffered horrendous burns in a fire at his home and was seen on a Southern TV documentary being received at Odstock Hospital back in the 70s. Jim always seemed to end up in trouble mainly through his own exumberance. I recall a trip to Sheffield United in the late 70s when he mistook Saints fans for the home supporters who has got in our terrace and ended up being bundled down the terraces. He also came a cropper at Mansfield. So back to the old days how many recall Clive Foley tours particularly the trips up north which used to leave from Southampton late on Friday night. A trip to Newcastle when the police stopped us from going to Nottingham was legendary. Also how many were in the pub near the Guildhall when Pxxxxy turned up after a game in Cardiff and it went off in the early 80s. A friend had arranged to have his leaving do there and only tipped us off after the event. RIP Jim

Gordon Mockles Posted 17 June, 2009 Share Posted 17 June, 2009 "He specialises in buying up assets from old giants ..... – often hitting when they’re most under pressure" I'm still convinced its' Ratcliffe. As you just said (and I previously mentioned), Ratcliffe has an uncanny knack of making money (esp. from the ayling BP, or dwindling businesses in need of shrewd financial injection). He seems to strongly use his financial backing to get what he wants. Saints fit into this profile perfectly. Maybe other business opportunities tied in with the club. Also, his rebuilding strategy of 5 years coincidentally links up with the Echo article about Pinnacle proposing a five year plan to get back to the Premiership. http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?t=13433&page=18 (check some of my comments on here) I've read suggestions and nothing has been posted which makes me change my mind. Only time will tell....

Only time will tell.... http://www.pinnacleproperty.net/pressrelease.htm We shall soon find out who they are: PRESS RELEASE 30-05-09 I am pleased to confirm that we have now entered into an exclusivity agreement with the administrator for the purchase of the assets of Southampton Leisure Holdings Plc (including Southampton Football Club). Over the next 3 weeks, there is a significant amount of work to be done to bring about the completion of our clients acquisition, and their professional advisers will be taking care of all legal aspects. During this same period, myself, colleagues and advisers will be focusing on bringing about the required changes at the Club to restore stability and vision in order that pre-season preparations may now be put in place. No further details about our clients can or will be released until their acquisition has been completed. On behalf of our clients, I would respectfully ask for privacy until that time – after which I am sure they will be only too pleased to share in the excitement of the challenge which lies ahead. tpbury Posted 17 June, 2009 Share Posted 17 June, 2009 I'm sorry to be pedantic, and I'm also sorry that I haven't checked whether the numerous other linguistic pedants on this forum have called this. Normally, I'm not bothered by spelling or grammar mistakes, or typos, or 'relaxed' typing; it's all about expression (note use of semi colon rather than colon, punctuation freaks) However, I understand the OP's original intent to make 'who' agree with a preposition, but there's really no need in this case. 'Whom' is an archaic form only used in the dative and possibly genitive declension - eg 'To whom does this dildo belong?'. I'm no expert, but if it you're not preceeding the word 'who' with 'to', then don't use 'whom'. Carry on.
