St David Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Morning, Where do you plan on going for a drink before the home games next season. I've been using Northam Social Club for the last 7-8 seasons but found it getting too boring towards the end of last season. I didnt renew my membership to the club so will be looking for somewhere else to try. Any suggestions? Cheers, St David
St David Posted 11 June, 2009 Author Posted 11 June, 2009 Coz I dont have one, Had this since 2006 thanks
saints_is_the_south Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Used Bar Risa last season soley because it did Carlsberg at £1.90 a pint, its since changed to £2.80 so i think me & mates will probably use the standing order next season.
St David Posted 11 June, 2009 Author Posted 11 June, 2009 I think your talking about 'Saint David' I'm St David, different username and different person I can assure you.
South City Si Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Alex or Alfred. Prefer the Alex but often rammed and a lot more expensive.
Gemmel Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 I think you talking about 'Saint David' I'm St David, different username and different person I can assure you. No posts for nearly 3 years and then 6 in as many minutes
SaintRichmond Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 No posts for nearly 3 years and then 6 in as many minutes Must have got tougher in H M Slade since Fletcher left ..........
niceandfriendly Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 It tends to vary from game to game and it depends on what the weather's like. If it's suntan weather, then we usually head down to Shamrock Quay, if not then any one or two from Bevois Castle, Standing Order, Yates, King Alfred or the Farmhouse.
Phil the Saint Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Red Lion - one of the few places that allow kids in although I think the Standing Order may now.
Trumush Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Court Jester. Child friendly -they open the function room bar before the game;decent selection of beer; big car park opposite; 10 minute walk to the ground.
Gordon Mockles Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Is that you David ? In fairness, considering the club we support, I expect there's quite a few Christian names preceeded with Saint/St.
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 In fairness, considering the club we support, I expect there's quite a few Christian names preceeded with Saint/St. Agree, the question was quite tongue in cheek as clearly it is 'David'
suewhistle Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 It varies, I'm not over very often, but sometimes Shamrock Quay and I can pretend I own a Hallberg-Rassy, or I go the scenic beach route from St Denys: Junction, SWestern or The Dolphin, or if skint the Wetherspoons in London Road or... Anyway, I do a fair bit of catching up when I'm over. As much as I like the local red wine you can't beat a decent pint. The Guide Dog tends to be after, up to The Honest or Bent Brief, then... oh dear...
londonsaint1604 Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 I really like the bent brief. It's expensive for a complete **** hole but it has a certain charm about it. 2 pool tables and a dart board + tesco opposite is good and then you can get a couple of cans of zubr for the walk to st marys.
The Cat Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Also have a soft spot for Bent Brief having spent far too much time in there during my student days spent living on Lodge Road back in the day. For reasons I've never quite been able to fathom, we meet in Varsity before football. The beer is pants, service slow, it's 15 min walk to the ground and completely the wrong side of town for me.
Dicko Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Court Jester or Admiral Lucius (whatever it's called)
Weston Super Saint Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Is that you David ? No, it's St David...
INFLUENCED.COM Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 We used to go to the Alex but its too popular so noone goes there now !
hypochondriac Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 We used to go to the Alex but its too popular so noone goes there now ! I'm good friends with the owners.
Fitzhugh Fella Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 The Guide Dog, proper beer. Often in there after matches
Bakovnetski Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Often in there after matches Before (excited anticipation and predictions) and after (consolation and much hand wringing). Never failed for last few seasons.
RedAndWhite91 Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 What about the Chapel Arms? It's close, and serves John Smiths. What more do you need. I am new to this whole drinking in pubs thing, will have to try out some of the ones mentioned above
Hunty Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Used the Alfred last year, but a good friend has just taken over the Eagle, so might have to go back in there now! She's trying to brighten the place up, her Saints scarf above the bar is a start, should be good come the new season!
forestboy Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Loved the grapes for pre match drinks, but gutted its closed down. Does anyone know if its going to reopen?
Huffton Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Loved the grapes for pre match drinks, but gutted its closed down. Does anyone know if its going to reopen? I always used the Grapes too, great pub if a little on the pricey side, but on the plus side they allowed kids in. THeres been a fair bit of work going on inside and there is a sign on the wall that says 'reopening soon', just hope its in time for the start of the season. I've been told Banana Wharf is kid friendly on a matchday, can anyone confirm this?
Saint Fan CaM Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Does anyone use the The Joshua Tree - just down road from SMS?
SFC Forever Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Chapel arms and usually have my 5 yo son with me.
red robbo Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 the grapes reopened monday and the joshua tree will be open
Green Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Always used to go the Pensioners but it's gone downhill this season with the new people in.
Neil Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Alex, Giddy Bridge, Guide Dog generally. Good news on the Grapes. Is the Joshua Tree the ex-Le Tiss pub?
krissyboy31 Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 Alex, Giddy Bridge, Guide Dog generally. Good news on the Grapes. Is the Joshua Tree the ex-Le Tiss pub? Joshua Tree used to be Coopers on Millbank Street.
gammon cheeks Posted 11 June, 2009 Posted 11 June, 2009 The painted wagon is a good pint before the game. Very difficult to find though.
