mynameisthehulk Posted 5 June, 2009 Share Posted 5 June, 2009 (edited) Dont know if there is much interest, that might well change if England have a good start. I am liking Bopara at the top of the order, Luke Wright is a bit of a gamble up there, but he showed what he could do against the Windies on Wednesday. If he goes early, KP in next and if he can get his head right about T20 and play himself in a little before he goes mental then he could be devastating. Shah, Collingwood, Morgan and Foster look to have the right combinations of power, nurdling, improvisation and running between the wickets (perhaps not Shah on that last one...) that is needed in the T20 middle order. Swann and Broad give us a handy looking lower middle order, with Anderson and Sidebottom making up the tail. The seamers look in great form at the moment, with Sidebottom coming back and bowling quickly and accurately, complimenting the already brilliant form shown by Anderson and Broad this season. Swann is bowling well, and we have decent enough dobblers to make up the extra overs, although pity there doesnt appear to be any room for Dimi. I think we could do well, if we just get our heads round the format, Lloyd and Nasser saying they are concerned Wright wont be able to do it against Steyn, Brett Lee etc, but if he did it against Fidel Edward when he was bowling at 90mph+, then I dont see why not. Just been on SSN that KP might be out with his achilles... Edited 5 June, 2009 by mynameisthehulk
stevegrant Posted 5 June, 2009 Share Posted 5 June, 2009 England should do ok, but assuming we get through to the Super Eight stage, we've got a ***** of a draw, with games against South Africa, Australia and India. Any team qualifying for the semi-finals from that group will fancy their chances of winning the tournament. Bangladesh, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and New Zealand looks a much weaker second group, IMO. I like the look of South Africa at the moment, although India will rightly start as favourites.

stevegrant Posted 5 June, 2009 Share Posted 5 June, 2009 **** me thats a bit weird. are we sure Ric has not devised the format? It does make sense on the basis that the whole tournament is condensed into a few weeks, with the Super Eight stage starting the day after the first group stage finishes, so for logistics it makes sense to know which grounds each team will be playing on and when, so they can sell tickets accordingly. It would be a bit pointless if people assumed England were going to play Australia at the Oval but England then win the group and the tickets for that day at the Oval are then relatively wasted when they could have gone to fans of Pakistan instead. stevegrant Posted 5 June, 2009 Share Posted 5 June, 2009 The Oranjes win the toss and will bowl first. Looks very murky, but should be the same for both sides. Probably a low-scoring game in prospect with the conditions, I suspect.

The final ball was quite a poor attempt, I know it would be natural instinct to throw at the stumps, but if he held onto it then it would have been a super over. chrisobee Posted 5 June, 2009 Share Posted 5 June, 2009 Bl**dy hell, Hants would have beaten Holland and how Dimi did not play is mind boggling, in fact I would have chosen him as captain especially as he learnt so much from Warney.Mind you though I would never have omitted Strauss from the 20/20 side, that was absurd as you only want one captain and I don't care if it's a Test match or a 1 over a side match continuity is vital. England cannot deal with any kind of pressure without the calming influence of Strauss.
AndyNorthernSaints Posted 5 June, 2009 Share Posted 5 June, 2009 With KP not playing there were no big hitters in the team so seems silly to leave Dimi and Napier out???? Also do not understand broad bowling over wicket in the last over when England needed a wicket. No chance of bowling out or LBW or even allowing the wicket keeper to come up to the stumps to stop easy singles?? Saying all that fair play to Holland who played well. I agree that the round the wicket tactic was not the right idea in the final over, not only did it not give us a chance of taking a wicket, it also gave them the single bye to the keeper. L1Minus10 Posted 6 June, 2009 Share Posted 6 June, 2009 ****ing embarrassing garbage. English cricket is the best example of muddled thinking you will ever find. Collingwood has proved that he is not a captain an many occasions, yet we appoint him. KP is out so do we replace him with another hitter like Napier, no we put the ****ing cabbage patch doll in the side. Do we play Dimi who keeps it tight and can smash quick runs in at the death, no we ****ing don't.... Where was Prior by the way ?

I was unable to respond to this last night, as I was doing my bit for the Dutch Economy and got plastered on Heineken. You would think the selectors had beaten me to it! The 2nd stage isnt seeded. Its Group A & C winners and Group B & D runners up in one and Group B & D winners and Group A & C runners up in the other. The tickets were viurtually sold out in advance, so you just took a punt on who you are likely to see. As it is if we win tomorrow (fantasy) the group could end in a 3 way tie and net run-rate would decide it. Me? I'm off on our annual bike ride pub crawl to forget it all. Please be careful if you are driving in the Eling/Marchwood/Hythe area later and come across a very ****ed peleton, looking for a pub with setanta sports. JustMike Posted 6 June, 2009 Share Posted 6 June, 2009 was going to post last night but was too fooked off with our display. We finally get a good start and there was nothing from any of the other batsman. Shah was carp again and why the fook was Key starting? He was supposed to come in at no3 but the after the good start moved down the order, when he finally came in he couldnt hit a barn door, it was crying out for a "slogger" in those final overs. I would have had Dimi in the side ahead of Key, at least he could have bowled abit too. As for the bowlers, Anderson again impressed but thats it and as for Broad, well...all he had to do was keep hold of the thing. Our fielding was shocking all evening (run out attempts etc). So there you go, we have just lost to a non test playing nation. Embarrassing!
