niceandfriendly Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Sorry if this is already posted, couldn't see it anywhere. MLT was on Radio Solent this evening saying that if he was asked he would become Chairman. That was about it. Sorry if this is old news but that's the first time I've heard Matt actually admit that.

Yes I have just posted similar on the Pinnacle thread.
BigShadow Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 I read this as MLT has already been asked to be Chairman - otherwise I would have expected him to answer along the lines of....I would be happy to consider any role with club....etc. So Chairman is a done deal....who will be MD? Team Manager? etc
Saint Charlie Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Sounds good. I expect him to be a Chairman Niall Quinn style. Brilliant to get him properly involved, he deserves to be. Hopefully a manager can be selected that he is happy to work with.
Ponty Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Would we be allowed to be happy to see our chairman in the team photographs then?
manji Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Would we be allowed to be happy to see our chairman in the team photographs then? What next ? A tracksuit top with MLT on it ? Standing on the sidelines at training sessions ? Half time team talks ?
Red and White Russ Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 What next ? A tracksuit top with MLT on it ? Standing on the sidelines at training sessions ? Half time team talks ? Sounds ideal.
wild-saint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 My contact spoke to MLT this morning and he said the pinnacle stuff is going well, The investor will take a major back seat with little involvement going forward. TL will run it for him. MLT will be involved (prob chairman) and he will have a given a cheque book for players but didnt say how much. He wouldnt open up on the manager front but only said they met with Wotte. He got the impression that they would want their own man.

It's a PR job more than anything else, in my opinion of course. Only a madman would let MLT actually run the show. Give advice yes, call all the shots? certainly not, not for me anyway.

But then you'd have to be mad to throw £15m at a Div 3 team, no?

I agree, I can see him being the main advisor on football matters, but not soley in charge, I will be happy with him in any role though, just him being part of the running will be a huge boost and a positive

I don't know your contact and I don't know MLT but I could have written your post just based on the consensus of this forum. Let us know when you have some news - I suspect MLT knows if he is going to be chairman by now - wouldn't you? I heard the investor is going to take a minor back seat as it's as meaningless as a major back seat. YOu are not ITK and don't have any contacts.
um pahars Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 YOu are not ITK and don't have any contacts. Whereas you have contacts at Charlton, Leeds, Villa, Basingstoke, Aldershot, Andover, Salisbury and Forest LOL. You've had more clubs than Tommy Docherty and more aliaes than Carlos the Jackal.:smt041:smt041 © ITN & Justin F;)

Only time will tell.

YOu are not ITK and don't have any contacts. my contact is a family member and MLT is a firend of his and above is the summary of what they spoke about this morning. Im not too fussed whether you consider that made up bull**** or just put together from the "consensus" on here. I know the truth and after reading trhe rumours of the bid falling to pieces I was quite happy to have been told the information above. It certainly has put my mind at rest. You my friend can either read it and take heart from it or dismiss it as bull****. Either way it is no skin off of m nose. If I hear more ill put it on here as personally any information is better than none certainly after the silence of the past few weeks
Saint Charlie Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Wild-saint, take no notice of that pillock, thanks for the info as always appreciated.
niceandfriendly Posted 4 June, 2009 Author Posted 4 June, 2009 Yeah I appreciate your comments wild-saint, thanks. The thing that pleases me with the idea of MLT being Chairman ie. Niall Quinn style, is that surely he holds an awful lot of respect amongst many professionals and people in the game? It looks like Lynam will be running the show with him, but having MLT at the helm can only be a good thing IMO, and the crowds will receive a massive boost too.

If I hear more ill put it on here as personally any information is better than none certainly after the silence of the past few weeks I'll dismiss it as rubbish because I would be concerned given your contact thta MLT is telling him he will 'probably' be chairman. That sort of uncertainty at this stage doesn't bode well and why would MLT communicate it only as 'probably'. Whats the concern? If you know?
Nineteen Canteen Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Wild-saint, take no notice of that pillock, thanks for the info as always appreciated. What exactly has he told us?????

According to Wild-Saint you need to insert a couple of probably's into your post and ask yourself why would MLT communicate to Wild- Saint's family member that he will probably be chairman. Why not definitely? Why suggest uncertainty?
wild-saint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 I'll dismiss it as rubbish because I would be concerned given your contact thta MLT is telling him he will 'probably' be chairman. That sort of uncertainty at this stage doesn't bode well and why would MLT communicate it only as 'probably'. Whats the concern? If you know? If I was making it up would I not make up something slightly more interesting ? OK if it makes you happier then I admit I made it all up , does that make you feel better? FFS The thing that does **** me off is my contact never asks the juicy questions as he feels like he is prying.
niceandfriendly Posted 4 June, 2009 Author Posted 4 June, 2009 Why does every thread on here have to turn into some sort of argument? The sun has been shining all day, things are looking a bit better than usual on the Saints front, and Hampshire are doing well in the cricket. Smile I don't who wild-saint's contact is, I don't know if it's correct, I don't know why there is uncertainty, but what I am sure of is that I'm not going to let myself get all worked up about it.
um pahars Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Why suggest uncertainty? You must be aware of the uncertainty that surrounds football clubs, after all your other teams (Charlton, Leeds, Aldershot, Salisbury, Villa etc) have all had uncertainities over owners and their futures at some point in recent history. HTH
beatlesaint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 What exactly has he told us????? he has told us the investor will take a back seat, TL will have a major hand in running the club and that MLT will most likely be chairman. What are you ? Thick ?
beatlesaint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Why does every thread on here have to turn into some sort of argument? because trolls like 19C have to concern themselves with every thread that runs here and generally has to argue with what anyone and everyone says. Ban him and we might have a better chance of argument free threads : - )
SW11_Saint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Would we be allowed to be happy to see our chairman in the team photographs then? Sod that, we'd be happy to see our Chairman playing!
SW11_Saint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Ban him and we might have a better chance of argument free threads : - ) ... or we could all multilaterally put him on "ignore". He only keeps going as we all rise to the bait.
niceandfriendly Posted 4 June, 2009 Author Posted 4 June, 2009 Sod that, we'd be happy to see our Chairman playing! Has there ever been a Player/Chairman before? I wouldn't be unhappy with that.
dubai_phil Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 lol I think we should have a sweepstake on who will be the first poster to complain that our Chairman was in the Dressing Room before a game And then ban the dozy s*d
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Certainly be a good move for the club. A great role for him I think - A chairman that we can be proud of!
beatlesaint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 ... or we could all multilaterally put him on "ignore". He only keeps going as we all rise to the bait. Excellent idea, I have now done that - thanks for reminding me about the option : - )
miserableoldgit Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 he has told us the investor will take a back seat, TL will have a major hand in running the club and that MLT will most likely be chairman. What are you ? Thick ? He also said that the Pinnacle stuff was going well, which after the Ted Rogers rumour was good to hear (if true).
thorpie the sinner Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 lol I think we should have a sweepstake on who will be the first poster to complain that our Chairman was in the Dressing Room before a game And then ban the dozy s*d Don't forget you said that phil, I would hate to see you banished to the Mongolian pizza farm!!
beatlesaint Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 He also said that the Pinnacle stuff was going well, which after the Ted Rogers rumour was good to hear (if true). Thats why the next two weeks could be long ! The lawyers will take their time and hit their deadline, but not a minute before, meanwhile people will carry on stirring all sorts of rubbish until the thing is signed, sealed and delivered.
Huffton Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Sod that, we'd be happy to see our Chairman playing! I'd be happy if just came to Staplewood a couple of days a week and showed them how to take free kicks/corners/pens!
dubai_phil Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Don't forget you said that phil, I would hate to see you banished to the Mongolian pizza farm!! lol Poll for the first to actually say those words ONCE MLT is appointed chairman doh
Wade Garrett Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 lol I think we should have a sweepstake on who will be the first poster to complain that our Chairman was in the Dressing Room before a game And then ban the dozy s*d Will he go to the training ground and educate the team on hockey tactics and penalty corners?
paris Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 I'll give you all a tip ,your'e not obliged to respond to any of the comments that people post on here so stop taking the bait silence is golden and it's my believe that it speaks louder than words.... because trolls like 19C have to concern themselves with every thread that runs here and generally has to argue with what anyone and everyone says. Ban him and we might have a better chance of argument free threads : - )
saint1977 Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 What next ? A tracksuit top with MLT on it ? Standing on the sidelines at training sessions ? Half time team talks ? Taking penalties if we get any in the last minute! Bar that save from Crossley Matty never missed one. Mind you, Beatts used to be deadeye from the spot as well.
Barry the Badger Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Mind you, Beatts used to be deadeye from the spot as well. I pretty sure Tiss trained him up.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 he has told us the investor will take a back seat, TL will have a major hand in running the club and that MLT will most likely be chairman. What are you ? Thick ? In other words what we have already been told by those much closer to the deal.
Arizona Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 Well, that's one way of getting at the matchday buffet in the executive suite. BTW, Matty showed Beattie and Pahars how to take a penalty when they were here. Aside from the Crossley save they never missed a pen between them. Vignal never missed a penalty for us either. HCDAJFU. Watch and learn Surman/Wotton/DMG/Euell/John (I know he's gone)
Torrent Of Abuse Posted 4 June, 2009 Posted 4 June, 2009 What next ? A tracksuit top with MLT on it ? Standing on the sidelines at training sessions ? Half time team talks ? Sounds like his forte. If he decided to try his hand at pig farming or investment banking, though, I think we'd tap him on the shoulder and politely tell him he's out of his depth and that it would all end in tears
70's Mike Posted 5 June, 2009 Posted 5 June, 2009 none of us about MLT abilities to be Chairman or have any idea of how it would operate in practice. all i know is it would be a great PR move for the potential new owners(deal not done yet) the crowd would have a unifing figure at the head of the club the noise would be enormous when MLT takes his seat for the first home game, only downside would be we would need players of great charachter who do not sulk because the chairman is loved more than them.

Must be early Mike as i read that as "nose",thought "that's a bit harsh".

It means the players might have to pull their finger out Mike and for the first time since WGS left actually give 100% and earn our respect. Those players that stay on from last season have a lot to prove to us - that they are worthy of being in the game and wearing the shirt. I'll support whoever runs out for us next season but I'll want to see 1000% more effort and certainly no more bottled tackles.
thorpie the sinner Posted 5 June, 2009 Posted 5 June, 2009 isn't it Matt's golf day today? someone was going to post some info
FLEETSAINT Posted 5 June, 2009 Posted 5 June, 2009 How marvellous would it be to have MLT leading us. After years of cretins and idiots we would finally have someone I could believe in. The future is bright the future is red and white.
