The Football League have witheld the £200k from Nathan Dyer's transfer fee and have paid off Notts County for Leon Best.

Also, Saints will remain tight lipped on the futures of Mark Wotte, David McGoldrick & Andrew Surman.

All in today's Echo.

the new owner probaly wont even bother trying to appeal the deduction now, if the fl had to pay another club money on our behalf then we deserve the deduction surely?

I am lead to believe that this is the way it works in the football league anyhow. It's not just because it is us but because transfer fees are paid direct to the football league and then paid on behalf of the club.

I am happy to be proved wrong.

OTHERWISE:

Slow news day I guess. Getting a bit bored of the wait...And a touch nervous. Any news that might help this?

The FL always acts as a middleman in all deals to ensure all past debts are paid off.

Deserve it, yes.

Legally should we have it, no.

I find your information Master Bates somewhat confusing in the light of the Echo online article. Does the Echo article really say the Football League have withheld the mone? The online article just says we've paid up from the Dyer money. We were told recently that Notts County were going to be paid anyway but if it's due to the Football League actually withholding the money to pay them, this sends out a whole different scenario.

We have to establish whether SFC are still operating independantly of SLH and therefore not as yet in administration. I read several months ago the Saints had negociated paying Notts County at the end of this season which is now and when it is being paid. I haven't seen Notts County forcing the issue with the Football League. Maybe I missed something.

fry is also quoted as saying pinnacle is "advancing as you would expect" which is encouraging.

Sounds good, although I've absolutely no idea what to expect regarding timescales so, using Fry's statement as a gauge, I am none the wiser as to how close they are to the finish line...

There is nothing "legal" or "illegal" about points deductions - these are just the rules of a club (league) that members (the clubs) have signed up to. So we deserve it, and within the confines of the rules, it is a correct decision as well. It's not a legal matter.

"The money was given to Notts County by the Football League. As part of their rules, all transfer payments initially go to the league. They then distribute it to the relevant club, rather than the funds being exchanged directly".

"As Saints owed cash to Notts County, the league took the necessary amount out of the Swansea cash and transferred it to the League Two side."

Title on the front page of the echo reads "League withold Saints Cash".

Many thanks MB. This clarifies that the Echo have been sensationalising the matter by their articlwe headlines. This explanation from you therefore puts my mind, and I guess many others to9o, at rest.

Only beggars an explanation as to why the Football League have never cottoned on to the alleged transfer dealings of a certain Monsieur Redknapp over the years.
