revolution saint Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Well for all of Dowie's innovation he still gets his players very fit, a bit like Strachan. He'll get us playing more direct and concentrate on being hard to beat and scoring goals - I wouldn't expect a team packed with flair but we're division 3 stuff now. I wouldn't complain if he was appointed. Personally I'd prefer Boothroyd - I know a lot slag him off but his Watford side always played us off the park and scored goals - it would be nice to do that to someone else. Aidy tried to implement passing football at the beginning of this season, it started to work after he'd left, but the fans were ****ed off as it was wholly unsuccessful at first. Rodgers has got a bit too much credit for that imo, he's not just a hoof merchant, simply trying to maximise efficiency and work with all resources fully employed. niceandfriendly Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Yeah I think Dowie would be good for us, I wouldn't complain if he was appointed. Although this Dowie talk is irrelevant as Strachan will be our manager
paulwantsapint Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 Dowie would bring a top GK coach in Timmy Flowers Tisdale is potentially a future top manager Wee God Strachan would be a massive boost & ECLIPSING KK as player size signing Magilton always used to cover MLT's fair share of work letting MLT take the credit
Windmill Arm 2 Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 We are in league one now, dowie would be a very good appointment. I would go as far as to say, we are in league 1 now so Dowie is well out of our league and we can only dream of securing his signature.

Badvoc Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 We may be speaking to NUFC about a present member of their staff possibly taking over at Saints, but in my opinion it is not Dowie. Having said that, should I be wrong then Dowie would be a good appointment for a Div 3 club.

ITKSaint Posted 3 June, 2009 Share Posted 3 June, 2009 I'd be pretty uninspired by Dowie TBH. I'm not expecting a bigger name than him...I just think there are better managers out there. I'm only guessing, like the rest of us, but I think you're going to be in for a disappointment. Dowie is an established Championship manager, we are not in that bracket right now. We're hardly a drawcard for a top name, -10 points, League One, squad in a mess. I think the best we can hope for is a good up-and-coming manager like Tisdale. I certainly don't see a 'name' manager coming in. Happy to be proven wrong of course

As I said before, there must be something that owners don't like about him since he's been sacked by his last three employers without making it through a year in the job. So Adrian Boothroyd isn't an established Championship manager then, either? What about Steve Coppell, not an established Championship manager? Dowie's record in all the clubs he's been at stands up to scrunity, because it is very good. Dowie would be a fantastic appointment for us. sarum saint Posted 4 June, 2009 Share Posted 4 June, 2009 He's a strange one. He's shown ability in all his jobs, did fine at Coventry then harshly sacked, and very harshly sacked at QPR, but that club's a joke now anyway. Didn't get anywhere near enough time at charlton and anyone was going to fail after curbishley. But he does now have a track record for failure. Not sure I'd be confident of him coming in and staying 4 or 5 years. I remember a certain Mr Strachen coming to us with a recent record of failure

I'd agree with that and Curbishley was a tough act to follow at Charlton. I've heard fans of clubs that Dowie has managed say that Iain sometimes brings his brother with him and that allegedly causes political friction. Don't know if that's true or not. Did well at Oldham and Palace.

I could see Dowie taking on the challenge.
