Just readin the statements by Fry and Lynam, and the published details so far, you will find the following:

1. the finances of the deal are set, that is, the creditors know what they are being offered and have accepted

2. due diligence has already been done, Lynam stated so explicitly

3. the current process is about legalities: SLH is being delisted and wound up, and its assets (i.e. SFC and SMS) are being transferred to a new holding company being set up; and the legal structure and personnel of the new holding company and of SFC as its main asset are being sorted

In other words, the deal is in the process of going through, if Lynam and Fry are to be trusted ... and why not? It is no longer a matter of going through the books to see whether to do the deal, but of going through the books and the legalities to work out how to do it. Of course, whenever lawyers are involved, there is the possibility of things going tits up. But barring some unpleasant and unforeseen legal wrangling, all indications are that this is a done deal apart from the final wrapping up.

If this was the Grand National I would say there is a furlong to go with one fence to jump.

Pedants Corner;

If you had a furlong to go, there wouldn't be any fences left. The run in is about 500 yards. Sorry, but it was bugging me all afternoon. :supz:

I bet their banker won't be Barclays (even if Barclay's action did rid us of Lowe).

Now, that would be irony (I think  )

I agree there is nothing worse than being negative for the sake of it.

But then, I wasnt being negative for the sake of it. I saw issues, and one-by-one I saw them come true.

I was saying back in the summer of 2006 we had ONE shot at promotion, and so it proved.

I was predicting the mess of the 2007-2008 season after Burley blew thing for us the previous season, and so it proved.

I also predicted the mess of this season and administration, and so it proved.

The likes of SOG and Franks_cousin have and will put Lowe successors down because they really think he did a spiffing job and that things are bound to be worse. Before they have even done ANYTHING.

TBH Alpine Frank's post didn't mention anything about Lowe, nor did it say anything negative. I am happy for you to copy the bits to prove me wrong, but IMHO he was being realistic (i.e. if we sell less ST's there will likely be less to spend).

You claim to have predicted all that befell the club, well done, have a medal. Even a stopped clock is right twice a day and it is far easier to be negative than be positive. To be fair you were right on a number of issues (not least the LB / CB issues which you took grief for), but I think your reputation precedes you and clouds sometimes valid points.

Almost without exception you (appear) negative on everything and then conveniently disappeared when a win happened or when positivity reigned (albeit not very often last year :) ). This irked me last season, especially as you didn't physically see many games last season yet were quick to pass judgement based on a teletext score.

Just my opinion and I do agree we all need to be positive about what can be a new, clean start for this club. I will remain glass is half full next season, it's a lifestyle choice.

I've worked for a few large City law firms (as an IT manager, not a lawyer) and the pattern with big corporate deals (mergers, acquisitions, management buy-outs, etc) was always the same. When the deadline for the deal was fast approaching, the lawyers involved would work round the clock like mad things to get it all done - we'd always get calls asking for out of hours support to be available and so forth. There was always ample time to get the details thrashed out, and it could easily have been done without the mad panic at the end, but they always did the whole lot at the last moment - or at least that's how it appeared.

So, if it's legal niceties and the like which are now being sorted, don't be surprised if it goes right to the last minute before all is completed. If nothing appears to be happening, that doesn't mean that there's anything wrong. If there's a deadline the lawyers will hit it; they just have everybody else crapping themselves in the process.

Maybe, but I predicted this mess in the Spring of 2004 when we made the greatest error of all, the appointment of Paul sturrock over Glenn Hoddle.

No, but I am passionate about the truth.

IF we were to acknowledge that it was a mistake NOT to appoint Hoddle all those years ago would you STFU about him?

Please?

That is all I want. But, there are some people who will not admit their mistake and would rather their part in the whole episode was either buried under other excuses or even forgot.

I do not intend to let this happen until they own up !

See this NSS fellow' date=' hes really a Saint at Heart I think, He felt our pain when releagted and said he would rather see Pompey relegated from teh prem than us go out of business... ;-) I can say that baout him as hes too tight to cough up a fiver and get more than 3 daily posts! ;-) are you not?[/quote']

Don't push your luck Frank or I'll tell all your stripey friends that your 'Aviators' are in fact SuperDrug specials.

I can only assume he IS Glenn Hoddle? Glenn, you are, were and always will be a total cxnt and however many times you post on here won't alter that fact. You're also stuck with it forever according to your own bizarre "philosophy". You will come back as a piece of mould on Rupert's soiled underwear and that is where you belong.

Until you admit that you irrationally, cluelessly, bitterly, unprofessionally couldn't admit that MLT was infact a more talented player than you ever were and that is why you didn't pick him you are destined for an eternity of minor life forms, perhaps progessing to a plankton as the eons go on your god finds some forgiveness in his heart.

Perhaps mystic Meg will advise you on when this new step up will occur but until then just STFU!

Thank God for that. I respect Frank's posts and would hate it if he was the kind of knob who thinks aviators and a bling rolex is style.

talking of finalising deals, I see that the arab down the road hasn't completed due diligence but says that he is buying Pompey because they don't have the big debts of some clubs...

He also says that hasn't got the £100M required to buy Newcastle, though he is rumoured to be paying £60M up the road (before another £100M ish required to get them in shape).

I think I know which one I would go for as a business investment, even with the Championship status - Newcastle has the fractionally worse dodgy wage bill than Fratton but with the ground and fanbase.

I see problems ahead for the Pompey deal if he has been told initially that they don't have significant debts, even former Prem club-owning alleged torturers won't want to fund that.

Pretty much spot on Sid, other than you can bet that Alpine will always put his money on the negative rather than the positive.

And for the record Alpine, I hope the new owner, whoever he or she is, is a great success for the club. I do fear for MLT though. If we don't go up over the next three years the likes of Alpine will have the rope out for him.

As for one shot at promotion, what rubbish. Redknapp blew in the first seaosn buy not buying a goal scorer. Burley didn't blow it. We came withinh a whisper of the play off final and would have made it but for a couple of errors by players. The season after he lost his best players and one of the Wilde Bunch came out and said that we were no longer going for promotion effectively...and you blame Burley???

You have a shot at promotion every season, just as you have a chance of going down. The loss of the parachute money makes it harder but teams are going up without that cash.

As part of this administration business wouldn't it be great if we could get rid of the negative, whinging, anti-Saints fans like Alpine?

People like him just pull the club down with the negativity and knee-jerk reactionary stances.

I am still not goingh t sing from the rooftops because I have no idea who is buying our club and what it all means, but I will hope for the best and wish them every success.

The people like Alpine who wanted Lowe, Burley etc to fail in effect wanted the club to fail, and they got they way.

The fact that he and his ilk still bat on about the past is very disturbing.

Hopefully we have a future and a bright one at that, but even if we overturn the 10 points problem and get promotion you just know that dear old Alpine will still be whinging on about Lowe...LOL

And whatever you think Alpine, the new regime will still have to get a Cup Final, European football, 10 years of Prem football and a highest ever prem finish in order to equal your nemesis's record....think they will manage that in your lifetime?
