Redondo Saint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Apparently the Pinnacle Consortium want to relaunch the clubs name. Any chance of a thread with no arguments? Na, life's too short.
JohnnyFartPants Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Any chance of substansiating the thread with a link or an ounce of proof? Not saying its lies but on its own it looks like mischief making to me, designed to get a split reaction.
mancsaint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Almost certain the badge will be revamped and relaunched a la Arsenal, Chelsea and QPR so that the new owner can get the rights to it. Anyone who wants to produce saleable items bearing the badge would have to pay for the privilege.

Anyone who wants to produce saleable items bearing the badge would have to pay for the privilege. In that case Im glad I havent dont a Tattoo yet of the crest....

Anyone who wants to produce saleable items bearing the badge would have to pay for the privilege. Changing the name of the club is just a wind-up by original poster, but changing the badge seems logical. It's just a badge at the end of the day and these do get rejigged periodically.

Anyone who wants to produce saleable items bearing the badge would have to pay for the privilege. I can see the logic in that! As to a tattoo? I got mine when it was changed from the old Southampton City style one, some 36 years ago!
Ruffo Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Apparently the Pinnacle Consortium want to relaunch the clubs name. Any chance of a thread with no arguments? Na, life's too short. Southampton United Football Club.... not quite long enough for a tattoo.

Anyone who wants to produce saleable items bearing the badge would have to pay for the privilege. There's already a copyright on the badge. I'd have thought that will simply transfer to the new owners.
Dicko Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Didn't we have this argument when Paul Allen's boat arrived in Ocean Village!! PMSL Apparantely, he wanted us to be called 'The Southampton Saints' In other words - does anyone have proof of Pinnacle's plan?
alpine_saint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I am fine with this. It draws a line under the last 5 years of shambles, and indicates the direction the club should go in - united... Its not the first time our club has changed name. I also have nothing against the badge being re-worked. I have to say though, from what I can recall of Redondo Saint's posting subtext, I wouldnt be surprised to discover this is a wind-up.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Southampton St. Mary's St. Mary's Y.M.A. Use some of the old names from the past(both these have been used before) or include 1885
SET Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 No the clubs name should not be changed, and i very much doubt that is on the agenda. As for the badge, its not just a badge. Its the symbol of southampton football club, its what should bring fans, players, the club together in a common cause. Personally i'm against any football club destroying its history by changing the club badge. And as for people that remove the Football Club from the badge, well i hold them in utter contempt.
Mase Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Sorry to be negative but I would hate it if our name was changed unless it was absolutely necessary… Which at the moment, it is not. And I love our club badge! It would be like changing the ingredients to a Snickers… Why bother when they are perfect as they are!!
rallyboy Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 yeah, the first thing Matt wants to do after assisting in the salvation of 124 years of history is to bring an end to it. Nice try to wind people up though, a good study in how a rumour becomes fact as it evolves....
fish fingers Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Southampton St. Mary's St. Mary's Y.M.C.A. Use some of the old names from the past(both these have been used before) or include 1885 Think we have solved what the pre-match and goal music should be.
Chez Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I am amazed there are any fans at all on here that are happy with a name change. SFC forever in my book.
Block 5 Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Apparently the Pinnacle Consortium want to relaunch the clubs name. WUM.

Rubbish as anyone who sells memorabilia on ebay will know Umbro own the intellectual image rights as they threaten me regularly with legal action and i dont think weve dumped Umbro as yet!
Rocker268 Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I think the name should reamain, but if you look back even 10 years, maybe a bit more the badge has changed, not dramatically, but slightly, just to make it look more modern this to this not a massive change, but change none the less
Scummer Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I think the name should reamain, but if you look back even 10 years, maybe a bit more the badge has changed, not dramatically, but slightly, just to make it look more modern That was the copyright issue. There was no copyright on the old badge, so anyone could use it. The 'new' badge, with different football, was brought in to regain control of the copyright. I actually preferred the old one.
Frank's cousin Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 The name wont change, but dont be surprized if we see a special new badge next season anyway as we celebrate 125 years in 2010 - good revenue potential for teh commemorative season shirt! And an excelent marketing opportunity to bring in new fans by making the most of the historic year - done right this could relaunch us and start to get kids interested in the LOCAL club rather than being glory hunters - soon as you get the majority of kids in a class behind saints the rest will follow. New owners have this very positive opportunity - lets hope they dont waste it

Wrong, the badge is just badge, we didn't mind the last time around.

A Nut Can Cut You Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I hope they replace the smorgasbord badge with something less cluttered. Should have been done years ago.
Frank's cousin Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 A good marketing opportunity for Christmas 2009 perhaps... Indeed. just hope the new owner knows our history and we need to start this now (or as soon as the ink is dry) If we cant afford to employ a team, hire in a consultancy/agency (not the bloke who came up with 'lets go Wilde') with the brief to ensure that no one in this country is left in any doubt about the significance of next year for saints - about the ambition and importantly for Saints fan how the club will be looking to them as its heart and soul and its ££ to celebrate - give us someything worthwhile and fans will wnat to be part of it and prepared to pay. I would lie to see something like a 125 club - a special 3 year membership which will cost £125 with special extras etc eg ticket righst the same as ST holders, initiatives that show the club is flexibale to modern fan needs/credit crunch etc yet helps swell the initial coffers this first season in L1... lots of ideas just need the right management...
eelpie Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 One step at a time please. We have to learn to re-walk first.
Frank's cousin Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 My suggestion. ...nah stan kind of suggests you wnat to kick Matty as his head is wher teh ball was ;-)
saint_mears Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 This better be a wind up as thousands of fans will go dippy with changes in name and badge.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 This better be a wind up as thousands of fans will go dippy with changes in name and badge. Near enough every club in England has changed its name over the years and badge. Saints have had many names in the past, many badges aswell.
alpine_saint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Near enough every club in England has changed its name over the years and badge. Saints have had many names in the past, many badges aswell. Indeed. Dont know what all the fuss is about. I also voted a few years back for the red-and-white quarters for the kit rather than the stripes. Just for a change.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 A combination of old(1885 badge) and current badge Below a reworking of the very first Southampton kit in 1885 An away kit A third kit As its the 125th year of Saints lets go back to 1885 traditions
Leicestersaint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 We have 124 years of history and I would like to build on that with any changes kept toa minimum! There's too much change everywhere, simply for the sake of it. Witness Mr Blair's ridiculous 'modernisation' of everything!
St.Patrik Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 A combination of old(1885 badge) and current badge Below a reworking of the very first Southampton kit in 1885 An away kit A third kit As its the 125th year of Saints lets go back to 1885 traditions I really like that crest to be honest
Scummer Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I really like that crest to be honest I think it looks horrible. I like the current badge, but if we were going to change we may as well just adopt the Southampton City crest.
Barry the Badger Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I love that home kit, not sold on the badge though.
SW11_Saint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 No, the name won't change - ridiculous wind up attempt. And nothing wrong with red & white stripes and the current badge in my opinion.
Matthew Le God Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 I love that home kit, not sold on the badge though. Maybe it will grow on you as you aren't used to it like you are with the current one
The9 Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 That badge is frankly horrible, the kits are not Nike current styles (next season's Man U Nikes have a stupid chevron on them, FWIW), we're in the third tier so they wouldn't make a new style for us anyway, we have an Umbro kit deal until 2013(ish) and flybe as sponsors for at least one more season as it is. In addition, not a shred of evidence for the whole name/badge change nonsense. Other than those minor details, great stuff.
Give it to Ron Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Apparently the Pinnacle Consortium want to relaunch the clubs name. Any chance of a thread with no arguments? Na, life's too short. How can one backer be a consortium?
eurosaint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 This thread is a wind up, there is more chance of us being renamed the Southampton Skates as there is United ! Get a grip !
Andover_Saint07 Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 That was the copyright issue. There was no copyright on the old badge, so anyone could use it. The 'new' badge, with different football, was brought in to regain control of the copyright. I actually preferred the old one. Yeah my tatoo is of the old style
chrisobee Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 If we're renamed Southampton United FC I'll eat my trilby!
Smirking_Saint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 A combination of old(1885 badge) and current badge Below a reworking of the very first Southampton kit in 1885 An away kit A third kit As its the 125th year of Saints lets go back to 1885 traditions I like all of these, something a bit different. And would be nice for the 125th year agreed. Although i don't like the St Mary's bit
Toadhall Saint Posted 2 June, 2009 Posted 2 June, 2009 Keep the name - Southampton Football Club - with in reason you can do what you want with the badge.
