Matthew Le God Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 I would imagine that the new man in charge will want to make a statement of intent by appointing his own man. Gives him his first new manager press conference to enjoy But also another chance to lift the fan base even more so if a big appointment. Wotte I think will revert back to the Saints Academy and would do a good job and I'd be happy for him in that role.
um pahars Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 Don't forget the FL gave us 10 points deduction with 2 games remaining. that was a real killer blow to the team. Not Wottes fault We were relegated even without the ten points deduction, and still ended up 7 points from safety (with the divisions worst goal difference). The real killer blow to the team occurred some ten months earlier when Pearson made way for the Revolutionary Coaching Set Up. Poortvliet's tenure of less than a point a game was an absolute disaster (yes, even worse than Wigleys!!!) and Wotte's follow up was pretty poor as well, only just getting above a point a game. Wotte's points per game across a whole season would have seen us relegated and the way we ended the season with that "diamond formation" in midfield did us no favours whatsoever. Along with many of the players, he talked the talk far too much last season.
bjk Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 Tony Lynam has said in todays Echo that all of the due diligence has been completed and the extra period is purely for the legal aspects and clearly there's football matters that need to be taken care of as well.He goes on to say,we need to have everything in place to get this club ready to prepare for the pre-season. This surely implies that Wotte will be replaced.I personally would love Steve Coppell to be our new manager.

SaintRobbie Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 (edited) Wow . A topic about football, that must be a real positive sign for the club I quite like Mark Wotte. he was doing a difficult job in very difficult times. Im convinced he was well aware of what was happening behind the scenes. For me he tried to remain focussed on what was needed on the playing side even if players were being booed etc etc and did his best to motivate the players under extreme pressure. Don't forget the FL gave us 10 points deduction with 2 games remaining. that was a real killer blow to the team. Not Wottes fault I get the distinct impression that the players were totally behind him. even in recent days with no wages being payed. he played a pivitol role in motivating the players. I personnaly would like him to remain at the club not either as manager or assistant manager along with killer. Who ever is incharge will get my support as long as its not redknapp or any other skate reject I am sorry but you have to assess Wotte holistically for his contribution to Saints demise to League 1. It starts with telling Lowe last summer [was it only a year ago it seems so much more given the pain produced by Lowe's final season in charge?] that youth total footy would work. HIS policy of playing youth under JP failed. He took control of the team and did a little better having changed the goalposts and introducing experience which worked for a time. He then FAILED to motivate the team or display enough knowledge of the league or tactical acumen to maintain the slightly more experienced team in the league and relegated us. Meantime he also backed Lowe wholeheartedly against the fans by criticising our support for Lowe and the failing club playing policy. He has remained and kept the team 'together' and said some more constructive things since, but he knows he is about to be sacked and to be fair he is simply waiting for his severence payment. Well, if he had a decent or honorable bone in his body - given his utter failure in every aspect of his contribution to Lowe relegation Season 2 - he would resign (a la JP) before taking a further penny from this club. The man is a fraud, not as respected as you may think by the players and has only ever relegated teams or left under interesting circumstances. So, given that track record, methinks it IS more Wotte's fault than ANY remaining architect of Saints downfall currently at the club. He MUST go. And if he has an ounce of honour he must resign rather than wait for a payoff. Edited 30 May, 2009 by SaintRobbie
Gingeletiss Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 Shearer stalling on signing his Newcastle deal!! Best he hurry up then, as IMHO he would be a disaster for us, untried, untested.
Gingeletiss Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 I've not been overly impressed with Mark Wotte myself but a good first step for any new Chairman might be to sound out what the senior players really think of him - if he has their genuine support then it may be worth giving him some more time . The senior players, not only let him down, but the club as well. Why the F*ck should they have any say in who the manager is, same as most on here. They should all be sold, and start afresh..........IMHO of course.

Good shout.........but again, I stress, the new owners will do their own thing, all our hot air is pure speculation......fun.......but speculation. Problem is, some think they have a say in the running of the club....[-X
the scud Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 Like others have said wouldnt keep him as manager or No.2 would be great if he would be in charge of U18'S or something like that. But with Le Tiss and his people taking over im sure we will see a new manager in charge

I don't know - I'd keep Kelvin and Chris Perry, their experience will be critical next year. Would like to see some new blood at the club though. What about a 'gamble' on Lee Trundle, out of favour at Bristol City? Also might be some pickings at Swansea if Martinez goes to Wigan - I'd reckon Gary Monk could do a job for us (again) in League 1. These are two older fella's clearly, but a good manager with decent experience should be able to pick up a few younger players too to gel with our better kids. captainchris Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 I would be more than happy to see Wotte stay on in a youth development role, but first team coach/manager..........not on your nelly. 100%

um pahars Posted 30 May, 2009 Share Posted 30 May, 2009 I understand totally people wanting a fresh start. But i am just fed up with replacing managers every 6-9 months. IT HAS TO STOP I also think the constant changing of managers is a huge problem. Three in the season we bombed out of the top flight, bombing out Pearson at the end of last season and then kicking out his replacement 6 months or so later was always going to cause us problems, but I would argue it is the selection and appointments in the first place that have been the bigger problem!!!!! Sticking with a duffer of a manager in the name of stability is a big no no for me.
