Pinnacle clinch it.

As long as the bid becomes a done deal, I for one, won't really give two hoots as to whether any ITK's, actually were.

All I want now is to see a manager bringing in some players and ringing the changes.

I never wish to watch us playing anything remotely similar to Dutch football ever again.

Problem is we never played any "Dutch" football. We had Dutch coaches/managers, but fast, attacking footaball based on interchange of positions, width, speed and accuracy? We didn't have it!

people wearing clogs are Dutch. they kick a football, they might be cloggers but not "Dutch football"

Any liklihood of Salz and any heavyweights from that bid jumping on board the Pinnacle bandwagon ?

Despite their critics I firmly believe the boardroom would be stronger for the inclusion of someone of Salz's corporate business and legal experience.

Agree 100%. Whoever has taken over the club, if they needed to have a top class chairman, then I could not wish for anything more than Salz to be that man. He is a big hitter, has seriously influential contacts, is widely respected and any company would be pleased to have him on their board.

There has been talk about Saltz for many months but that was all it ever was

He may be a saints fan but I dont recall him ever entering the fray but his name was bandied about several others.

I draw a comparison between him and Gavin Davies and David Frost. It was always reported that they were keen to buy the club over they years but we all know the answer to that. no they did not buy or rescue the club even at the tile wilde, strode gibbons and crouch rode into town

I remain unconvinced about saltz being chairman, Mainly because I do know who he is, I have heard lots about him but never seen him making any comments about the club

It was half-dutch football really. If the hapless Poortvliet had not (by Lowe's dictat) persisted in playing one inexperienced striker in front of a midfield that could hardly cross the half-way line I believe that we would not have won more home matches.

But history would have been different. I am happier to be in League 1 without Lowe than in the Championship for another tortuous year with Lowe.

I don't see any comparison between Gavin Davies, David Frost and Anthony Salz. We will never know whether Davies and Frost and their consortium would have taken over the club and what would have became of us had they done so. Neither they, nor the other couple of consortia, as that c*nt Askham and the other charlatans on the old board acted with undue haste IMO to secure the reverse takeover. Once Lowe and Cowen had got their feet under the table together with those other toadies, a takeover was an entirely different kettle of fish and there was hardly any external investment club because nobody wanted to sink their money into the club without having control. But Davies was the man with the wealth, whereas Frost was the front man, much as Le Tissier is now.

Salz is not in the league financially to be able to take over the club, but would be the perfect choice as chairman for reasons that I have already given. As one of the top legal brains in the UK, he is also the perfect person to decide whether we have a case to overturn the -10 penalty and to pursue it on our behalf.

A few days ago, you were running around like a headless chicken accusing people of killing off the club through their boycotts, but here we are in an entirely different situation. We are not out of the woods quite yet, but with luck we will soon have reached the point whereby we can put all of this disunity caused by Lowe, Askham and Co behind us and start to rebuild the club to return us to where we were.

I think you have the wrong person here Wes

I certainly wasnt a headless chicken, you must be confusing me with someone else. but I think I know the post you refer too. It was borne out of frustration as we were that close to extinction and it was aimed at just a couple of people. Even I agreed with Um Pahars that I should have emailed the three people the post was aimed at. One of the individuals has created another thread thanking those that boycotted the club but then maybe its you that is running around like a headless chicken for not realising who my post was aimed at.

Have a nice day now.

Got to practice my USof A euphamisms.

Got I missing the forum already

Fair enough Draganov. It was that post and I fully understand the sense of frustration and fear that you underwent when things really did look bleak at that moment in time. I was also very nervous then, but I had a quiet confidence that something would happen to save us at the last moment. Apparently, even if Pinnacle or the other groups had not saved us, I understand that there were others prepared to step forward as a last resort.

Anthony Salz is first and foremost a fan. He attends all games as a fan. He has worked tirelessly to support this club and bring peeps together for the good of the club.

Fans mentioned he should be Chairman....Although a very good shout, I would suggest he will, like the majority of fans just feel very very relieved that there is light at the end of a very long tunnel..In my view he will be welcome at Southampton Footbal Club, anytime and in any capacity..Onwards and upwards. The new owner and team will make their own decisions. I am sure Mr Salz will not be forgotten by those at the club ITK.

Thank You Mr Salz.

'Those who quote from others have nothing to add of their own'. SaintRobbie May 2009.

I like truisms ;)

Another hackneyed opinion from Robbie that as usual is so cliched it's barely worth making let alone responding. Doh! (Matt Groenig). We can appreciate why you like truisms Robbie it helps you to avoid the need to challenge the opinions of others against your own smug, tired and populist thinking.

'Revenge is always the pleasure of a paltry, feeble, tiny mind' - Juvenal.

Hence, I use quotes because I usually wish I had been able to construct the words as fashioned by the author or orator myself and out of respect for them and my own lack of education I prefer and indeed get a lot of pleasure from using my reference library and just love an excuse to dip in now and then.

I'm with you there - can't understand why there's such condemnation of those who were allegedly ITK, and for some of the other bidders. Who cares?!?! Let's just get on with it now...

There's the beauty of quotations. A bloke who would likely have been a Cov fan writing 400 years ago about Scotland a a thousand back - and he's described half the posts on this forum(mine particularly I'd imagine) as perfectly as if he spent half his life hitting f5 on here

You have one fan, Robbie!

LOL!

Although I wouldnt put myself as a better fan than anyone who supports Saints. A fan is a fan, stay away or fanatic.

I do love this club, even more now that we're about to say a final farewell to the plc, are owned effectively by one owner, have previous greats back in the club, no debts, a more or less united fan base and an opportunity to finally build this club for the good of those who support it and not Mr Lowe's shareholders.

Ahhhh..... all those posts campaigning for a takeover from one wealthy owner and a return to a time when the Greats returned and so did optimism. Smells great... then they send me to blooming Cyprus for a couple of years! Still when I return I confidently predict CCC football and heading up...!

Future is bright. (Just need a manager and to sack Wotte for good now!)

Was a time I nearly gave up on the Saints. Frustrated and scared that my 5yo son would change his mind and decide to follow one of the teams that were always on tv. Last season he saw 4 of the games I saw and not one win. Seeing how poor we were I would start the day in Southampton in the shop. Then we would have our burger and chips(loads of sauce). Once thirst was quenched a slow stroll to the stadium which he always enjoyed because of the vast numbers in our colours. The game which dragged slowly to the inevitable conclusion and a walk to the car.

Luckily he always enjoyed the day and was not as bothered bythe result as myself. He will learn no doubt that it helps to win a few games as he grows older.

The day I nearly called the whole thing off was the day of the Watford game. Walking away I made up my mind that I had had enough. As I turned for one last look my son was beaming. He was as happy as Larry and didn't give a toss that we had lost. For him the day was enough. Surprising how quickly your mind can change back.

Next season I fully expect to take him when we win. Then he will notice the difference in the atmosphere. His room is covered in saints memorabilia dating back to 1976.

Now all we need is a quick deal, new manager and some players to bolster our lightweight squad. The news over the last few days has left me anticipating the new season in a way that I have not felt for a long time. I actually believe we are going to start the fightback and am really starting to look forward to the day we get back up to the CCC. One step at a time though as we need to grow in a more sensible manner according to our funds.

Bring on the new season.

My apologies for rambling. They say the body goes before the mind. Says a lot for my body I guess.

Nice post SFCFE. I question the judgement of boys below 13. I considered myself a Liverpool fan in the 70s (with a touch of Tony Gray's Leeds). I think it is all about the experience they get at whatever age - watching matches, falling for the experience. That's what I got when I went to the Dell and I understood my dad's lectures about the Saints - as soon as I got there as a teenager it became my life. This is something Essex bound ManU fans will never know, they'll see product, boots, mags, success, trophies, but they wont know how it feels to really support a team - it's all remote to them. To us, and Doncaster and Colchester, and Aston Villa it's very, very personal. Sorry, pi 5 5 ed

Sorry don't know him. What position did he play? Was he part of the Charlie Wayman era? Bit before my time.

Not in the Charlie Wayman era, but we had a goalkeeper some years after that he could have been mistaken for in his later years.

I recall when I was just 9 or 10 and going to the dell car park hoping to get some players autographs of any saints player.Pat Earles or Dennis Hollywood would be as great a catch as Big Ron or Mick Channon. Id cut out pictures of the players from the Echo and then wait in excitement who would sign them.I didnt care when I got home with my brother and dad was there who was then was cutting about their abilities. That didnt effect my worship and admiration.I suspect your youngster will hold the memories of the crowds the excitement and even unwrapping his Yorkie or Kitkat and the result willbe dimmed with the youthful anticipation that 'next time dad they will win.'

Even if it means Saints in League 1?

Well they had a massive part in it that they are!

Who replaced a decent manager with 2 jokers and relied solely on youth?

Who alienated the senior players telling them they "were surplus to requirements"?

Who changed the whole atmosphere at the club from positive and together to alienation?

We managed to get relegated even without the -10 points.

But who's to say that a few more bums on seats mightn't have meant we could bring in a couple of loanees who'd have meant a couple more wins?
