OldNick Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 it was not the same since Tom Braham left. He had built up a good afternoon show
kpturner Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Web sites still up, and no news on there! WTF!There is nobody around to update it of course. I expect it is hosted on some server somewhere that will stay online until the next bill comes due.
Patrick Bateman Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Has gone t!ts-up. Staff seen removing equipment from St Marys. Possibly not tits up. I would have thought they were just "moving out" as they were allowed to stay there - probably time has come to move on because they've either been asked to pay rent, or just simply asked to find new premises.
teamsaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 LOL Any suggestions for a new radio station, dont like Radio 1 and want a local news station, dont want to hear about PFC every 5 minutes either. I loved RH as it was the only one that gave you updates on SFC. What will happen to the brothers now! You can be confident about avoiding news about poopey and the arms dealers by listening to Radio 3. This has the added advantage of no news OR speculation about the Super Saints!! It does help if you like classical music, obviously.
kpturner Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 it was not the same since Tom Braham left. He had built up a good afternoon showHe was good - but then he came back recently with some other show and it was complete tosh - sounded like he was ******ed. When and why did he go anyway? Seemed like one minute he was there and the next he wasn't. Same with: * Their digital sky channel * DAB broadcast * Jimmy Case - what happened there? I heard that Gordon Watson only got about £50 expenses for covering an away game so that is why he knocked it on the head.

GW was £50 too much

Give it to Ron Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 As for Radio Hampshire it was the staff's job to make the station competitive and innovative and it seems to me they relied in the end on some serial Lowe bashing and general 'shock-jock' tactics that would only appeal to an audience that have proven themselves to be largely apathetic. Dennis was about as appealing as Kyle and Gaunt - ok in very small doses but almost impossible to listen to for a whole show because of a lack of quality and need for something a bit more balanced. In the main the staff did do that and to say that it relied on Lowe bashing is doing a disservice to the other members of staff like Gemma, John etc. Why did you listen if you hated it that much? Are you a masochist then? If I don't like a programme I don't watch it or listen to it. I will declare that I am very grateful to this radio station as I won a big competition run by them for Smilemakers that enabled my daughter to have treatment she needed that we would of had to try and fund after being let down by the local NHS. A great shame IMO as they had some very interesting programmes and enjoyed the music they played.
Weston Super Saint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Fish "puns" will be punished by infractions from this point. You're just jel[lyfish]ous.
um pahars Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 How much did we spend on it, though? Unlikely it would have freed us up to buy Steed Malbranque. I think we paid close to 7 figures for the initial outlay of the FM licence in 2004 (got the equipment FOC when Radio 1st went tts up a year or so earlier). It lost £200k in its last year of operation and I would have thought earlier losses would have been greater given the SKY 899 channel et al. Probably something approaching £2m over its short lifetime.
Jonnyboy Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Will Cope was made redunant a few weeks ago. ON Sky Sports a bit now. Apparently. Power's gone, Ocean goes in June. All a bit rubbish now, local radio is just a big central based joke. Thats a shame for him, any idea what he will get up to now?

mcjwills Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 (edited) Cider Bob who could always manage to drive to a layby to get reception but not the extra 20 miles to attend a game - priceless he got air time. Lol. I often thought that Me too, I was so peed off with his inane drivel, I just turned over till he was gone. Edited 28 May, 2009 by mcjwills
eurosaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 I could never get a signal on the West Wight (not exactly a million miles away!) and even when I used my (top of the range) digital portable radio near to St Mary's the reception was krap ! The only thing I remember about it was the last set of accounts from SLH (when it was The Saint FM ) which informed us that with a turnover of 240k they made a loss of 200k ! It was around about then that I came to the conclusion that Rupert was not exactly the super duper successful business man that he and others claimed him to be ! No great loss IMHO but obviously I feel sorry for those who have lost their jobs as a result !
rocknrollman no2 Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 It will be a shame if it has indeed closed.I used to like the "Brothers show." What will i do with my "Saint radio" sticker now?
Ricky Redstripe Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Thats a shame for him, any idea what he will get up to now? Probably go back to supporting Sheffield United I expect.
westmidlandsaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 So what happens to the people that live outside of the area that have already renewed their subscription (for most of next season) to saintstv.com purely for online commentary??? will they just do a deal with Solent or what??
Viking Warrior Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 So another wasted expense on saints. I only renewed my membership at the end of April So what have I lost My Club My Shares My Saints TV God Im depressed.

westmidlandsaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 yep well the commentary is, to be honest its the only reason I subscribe to Saintstv, living in the west midlands and haveing 2 kids (another on the way) i cant afford to get to all the games so religiously listen to all games i cant get to on there

benjii Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 This means listening to the jovial Dave Merrington on matchdays; complete with mispronunciation of at least 30% of the players names. Antiiiiii Niiiiiiiiaaaaaayyyyyyy-mmeeeeeeeeee
pilsburydoughboy Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Has gone t!ts-up. Staff seen removing equipment from St Marys. It was Ruperts pride and joy. Christ maybe the catering will go next.

krissyboy31 Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 What's happening with Ocean FM then? My drives to work in the morning won't be the same if Ocean goes. Becoming Heart. It's pretty much Heart under another name now, anyway. You'll still get local news and local presenters in the morning and afternoon drive times but all the rest and the music is centralised.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Could be a result of the new ownership. Not necessarily sinister...unless there's more to be disclosed?! I like listening to Radio Hants. Shame if it's to go. Solent and their practical stories like "how to remove poo from sheep's bum fur" doesn't always rivet!! Solent represents Public Service Broadcasting at it's comical best (apart from Sunday mornings). Gordon its a pity you didn't hear how to remove the residue from a sheep's wool around it's anus as you may not have inadvertently given your wife blue tongue. Anyway that piece was on Countryfile last Sunday evening, put me off my weekly roast and had to ask the wife to put a dab of mint sauce behind her ears so I could finish eating.
saintj Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 http://www.radiohampshire.com/ RADIO HAMPSHIRE HAS CLOSED DOWN AND CEASED BROADCASTING AT 2:00pm 29th MAY 2009 Without any prior warning to our listeners and to our advertisers Radio Hampshire was forced to switch off on 107.2 & 107.8. ladysaint Posted 29 May, 2009 Posted 29 May, 2009 Listened to Coast this morning on the way in to work but all they were on about sports news wise was the Skates and about Sven being their new manager, really miss Radio Hampshire already.

(ie. you cannot access games on 5 live outside the country). Like you my son (who lives in Belgium) used to listen every week to the match commentary but it looks now as if it's over !!
OldNick Posted 29 May, 2009 Posted 29 May, 2009 I do hope they do relaunch.Stewart Dennis seemed a good bloke and Gemma charming so good luck to them.

Not sure about Europe but my guess is Saints games should be available online next season through Solent in the UK. Most BBC local stations do broadcast games online, it was the SaintsTV deal that blocked it before. I've not renewed yet, so saves me a few quid anyway.

Actually, I think it's a copyright issue that stops the live broadcast online on Solent. Maybe that can be resolved, but it would be too expensive to obtain overseas rights as well so only those online in the UK will be able to hear it, if at all.
SW11_Saint Posted 31 May, 2009 Posted 31 May, 2009 Who knows, if the Michael Tabor rumours are true (and frankly, I don't mind if they're not - since we know whoever the Pinnacle money man is has wealth of 'hundreds of millions'), perhaps his son Ashley, a big player in the Radio business, might revive it...? Not though, if it was a loss maker... http://business.timesonline.co.uk/tol/business/industry_sectors/media/article6269455.ece

I would have sued Watson for ABH.

All clubs have some medium through which the BBC coverage is sold to those around the world/local area on matchdays if you can't get in reach of a radio. I wouldn't be surprised at all (in fact I'd be surprised if there is anything to the contrary) if you find Radio Solent broadcasting through SaintsTV on matchdays, with only cup games available free online streaming from the Beeb.
