Pancake Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 on Monday. http://saintsfc.co.uk/news/?page_id=11778 Why? The site only had a "make over" about 12 months ago.
Master Bates Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Get's a make over every 12 months, have been eagerly awaiting this news. Thank you ever so much, I think I will now start sleeping better at last
saint_mears Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 So its lost its independence and now is hooking up with all the other clubs.
Pancake Posted 28 May, 2009 Author Posted 28 May, 2009 It explains why in the article Ha ha, very clever. Yes, I understand that we want to be in-line with the 70 odd other clubs. I do like this bit though: We're also planning on adding more new sections in the near future and will be giving you the chance to tell us what you'd like to see on your club's official website. "The Truth" now and again wouldnt hurt.
Badger Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Disappointing news as the other club sites are all of the same mediocrity.Thought the Saints site was at least an 'official' site even if it could be misused to put the party line on occasion. I assume this has been driven by cost implication somewhere along the line.
SFC Forever Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 How about THE TRUTH,THE WHOLE TRUTH and nothing but THE TRUTH.
Saint_Jonny Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 it just means we wont be using our own web format anymore, but a generic one instead like loads of other FL clubs. You have to pay to see most of the stuff on other clubs fli sites so i dont see this as good good news..
slickmick Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Ha ha, very clever. Yes, I understand that we want to be in-line with the 70 odd other clubs. I do like this bit though: "The Truth" now and again wouldnt hurt. Are you allowed to copy and paste ? ;-)
hugh Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 (edited) That is a real downer. I was always proud that we were not one of the herd and went our own way, even if the editorial line left something to be desired at times. The whole "one size fits all" approach of Sky stinks to be quite honest and I can't say that I like the look and feel of the other clubs sites. Locking off a lot of the content to subscribers only seems typical of Sky's whole approach and not really fitting the ethics of the working mans game. In fact I hate what Sky has done to football in general, but that is a whole different thread I feel! Edited 28 May, 2009 by hugh Bloody spell checkers!
It's There Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 And the example they give highlights Forest beating us!! Typical! Couldn't they have put up a win as a demonstration?
krissyboy31 Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 I don't like the one size fits all approach of football websites but at least if we're signing up for this, it's another sign that we will be around next season.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 They'd be better off concentrating on getting the on line ticketing system working properly before tarting up the graphics . At least someone's working on the assumption that we'll still have a club in a months time I suppose .
The9 Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 And the example they give highlights Forest beating us!! Typical! Couldn't they have put up a win as a demonstration? Oh come on, they've only had 12 months to find one... I have to say if this means we're a "Premium World" type website this is a sad day for the OS, but it's got to be a costcutting measure so mustn't grumble really. At least they haven't already charged me for it... ...though most other clubs' online stores are terrible using their current template.
SaintDonkey Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 For all people on this board slag off the OS it's been miles better than the sort of cookie cutter sites that other fans endure - and that we will have to endure from Monday RIP http://www.saintfc.co.uk, let us just hope the rest of Saints does not follow.

Pretty sure that link's been dead for a while...
gjphilsaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 So its lost its independence and now is hooking up with all the other clubs. exactly merging into the rest of the dross... no one will notice!
saint_stevo Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 tell me it aint gonna be a premiumtv one now?! Maybe the Irish know some good web designers?
gjphilsaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 tell me it aint gonna be a premiumtv one now?! Maybe the Irish know some good web designers? sorry it is
Frank's cousin Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 sorry it is ******... oh well doomed to more crap then and having to pay for it...how could they sign a contract for this in the current situation?
gjphilsaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 ******... oh well doomed to more crap then and having to pay for it...how could they sign a contract for this in the current situation? subsidy? just guessing
Chap in the Chapel Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 It's been going downhill since Graham Hiley left. 'Hiley Controversial' was a breath of fresh air compared to most other clubs' Pravda-esque website writing. Sad news, really.
wireframebox Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 It does look like a premiumtv forumla to me I'm afraid. It will be interesting to see how it turns out as I'm involved with launching a site for another football team at the moment.
hamster Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Although some bemoan the coming of the new site, we still have SWF. Independent well written and only a fiver, so this is definitely good news for our masters imho, I really do think that some of our supporters don't appreciate what we have here, and although the main SWF pages raen't cutting edge the forum is always worth dipping into whereas most clubs OS's are dross. By the way, the new site is one linked to Football League Interactive, who employ Steve Moran to do matchday live updates from Scunny. There was an article about him in Saturdays play-off final programme between Gills and Shrewsbury. Top man and if they are good enouigh for Steve Moran, they are good enough for me.

'Hiley Controversial' was a breath of fresh air compared to most other clubs' Pravda-esque website writing. Sad news, really. Why don't the mods get in touch and ask if he fancies a bit of frelancing on this site? They could even pay him a few bucks for it.
Pancake Posted 28 May, 2009 Author Posted 28 May, 2009 Why don't the mods get in touch and ask if he fancies a bit of frelancing on this site? They could even pay him a few bucks for it. I think he works for the FA now.
hamster Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 I think he works for the FA now. On their website or behind the scenes? Could he still knock out the odd thousand words for us/you, what would it cost do you think? TSW could include them in a private 'Full Mambers' area, thus giving even more VFM.
Charlie Wayman Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 I'm a cynical b*gg*r but didn't the Titanic sail from here with all it's deck chairs on the wrong decks? Presumably we will now have a website "that befits a League 1 (aka DIVISION THREE) side."

Mase Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 (edited) http://www.juventus.com/site/eng/homepage.asp or http://www.arsenal.com/home or even http://www.fulhamfc.com/home.aspx I’d like to see our website similar to those just with Saints colours! Not that crap we’re going to have… Makes me feel like a Bournemouth or Oxford fan… Also does anyone know if there will be an Online Ticketing service? And will the Online Club Shop be redesigned? Edited 28 May, 2009 by Mase
WhitmonSaint Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 As a web designer i've never ever liked the design of saintsfc.co.uk, but as the others have mentioned i have always liked the fact that it is free and we were doing it our own way and not using some football league template. *sigh*
Flyer Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Lets hope it doesnt follow the Fisher site. http://www.fisherathletic.co.uk/ Look at, "at a glance"
kpturner Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Lets hope it doesnt follow the Fisher site. http://www.fisherathletic.co.uk/ Look at, "at a glance"Oh dear :-( ....I wonder who is paying for the web hosting?
RedAndWhite91 Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Whenever I look at opposition's websites for their team news/ injuries for upcoming matches against us I always think how cheap and shoddy their sites are compared to ours. Course, their sites are all the same, and now ours will be too. A sad, sad day in the history of http://www.saintsfc.co.uk.
Kadeem Hardison Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 In the suggestions to improve the website bit, I'm going to suggest 'the truth'.
CB Fry Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Presumably some people have already been, or are about to be, laid off following this move?
kpturner Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Presumably some people have already been, or are about to be, laid off following this move?I think it was outsourced long ago - this is probably just a cheaper option.
Colinjb Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Meh, barely use the OS anyway, I always get my Saints news on here. Have we signed Skacel yet by the way?
saintjay77 Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 And the example they give highlights Forest beating us!! Typical! Couldn't they have put up a win as a demonstration? They would have to go a pretty long way back to find one of them worth putting up so probably figured its best to stick with the last game. I dont really see why they are bothering to change it though. the problem with the current site is not that it looks bad, its the fact that hardly any decent info goes on it. the rule to only publish facts and speak nothing of rumour coupled with a bunch of ****s that dont want to tell us anything leaves the poor old web editors twiddling there thumbs for a majority of there working week. They have probably come up with a re-launch as a way to make them selves look busy while the club look to offload anyone that doesnt have much to do.

But surely once the hard work of getting the website up and running is done then the updating of it is fairly simple by comparrison? So I dont get why they feel they need to change things as even if they are looking to do things cheaper they only need to have people to maintain the site and update it occasionally. Its not like they need to pay mega bucks to create the site every day is it?
RobM Posted 28 May, 2009 Posted 28 May, 2009 Is this not the online version of mutton dressed as lamb?
Pancake Posted 28 May, 2009 Author Posted 28 May, 2009 Ive seen the new version that goes live Monday: Sneak Peak

Pancake Posted 1 June, 2009 Author Posted 1 June, 2009 http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/page/NewsHome/0,,10280,00.html Well, there is it...
scott_saints Posted 1 June, 2009 Posted 1 June, 2009 Yay- it doesn't even work properly on my work computer.
The9 Posted 1 June, 2009 Posted 1 June, 2009 Don't click on the "Home" tab whatever you do... New Website OUT !
lee_saint Posted 1 June, 2009 Posted 1 June, 2009 Always found the 'Premiumtv' sites to be slower, ah well, lower league club, lower league website.
The9 Posted 1 June, 2009 Posted 1 June, 2009 Archive isn't there at the moment either, archive dates list back to May 2008 but there's nothing for any of the months beyond the recent stuff... but then if they were going to port the archive across I should think that'll be a little while yet.
