Give it to Ron Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 BREAKING NEWS... the new owner is Irish building magnate.,Patrick O'Doors. Paddy to his friends. His partner is the lighting milionaire Shaun Dolear
kpturner Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Probably a 'lighting a cigarette' thing in fact. What? You mean you just got laid?
bridge too far Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 His partner is the lighting milionaire Shaun Dolear Wasn't he once married to Win Dosill?
SFC Forever Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I, Myself and Me or should it be me, myself and I, would like to take this opportunity to thank the gentlemen who are aiding our grammar at this most difficult of times.
NSS Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Do these two statements not conflict somewhat? Ok, the Irish deal may fall through and Pinnacle step in. But you aren't really in the hunt if someone has exclusivity and close to the deal. Have you not considered the possibility that Pinnacle may have brought new bidders to the table? I'm not saying they have, but there is of course an Irish connection. Sorry, just thinking out loud, and quite likely I'm completely wrong, so probably best just to ignore my conjecture.

$$$ Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Is there any chance the usual suspects could stop polluting this thread with their crap? It is pretty annoying to have to wade through pages of rubbish in an attempt to find out what is actually happening... Thanks

It is pretty annoying to have to wade through pages of rubbish in an attempt to find out what is actually happening... Thanks At the moment there is no concrete news as to what is actually happening. There is an, as yet, unsubstantiated rumour of an Irish bid. HTH.
Eyes k8 Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Well we are more likely to get the spelling and grammar right (eventually) than the eventual buyer. I had to proof read this several times before I had the courage to press . I cannot wait to see what I ****ed up :-) What exactly makes you think that the eventual buyer is less likely to get the spelling and grammar right than the 'we' you mention?
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 A possible real bidder has appeared to do what Fry wanted, and we fight over spelling mistakes Has to be an all time classic moment Indeed, you couldn't write a better screenplay! Only on SWF! I have the Black Bush chilling.
rocknrollman no2 Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 If this is true, then please let it happen soon. Im fed up with "Its gonna happen on Monday,no wait Wendesday,no wait Friday".
kpturner Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Is there any chance the usual suspects could stop polluting this thread with their crap? Who might they be?
rpb Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Both can be correct depending on the situation. E.G. "It was (X and ) me" or "(X and ) I did it". And you a teacher. What chance do our children stand! Teaching in Gosport we have never needed to reach such high standards! So - back to my problem... "Who did it?" "It was I." or "It was me."
Jackie@home Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Mmmmmmm...... very interesting. A colleague of Mark Fry was certainly looking very pleased with themselves this evening, but still giving absolutely nothing away.

Micky Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Indeed, you couldn't write a better screenplay! Only on SWF! I have the Black Bush chilling. Too much information, we really do not need to know about your personal life...!
Ludwig Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I hope it's McManus and Magnier as opposed to Anderson. 5Bn euros vs £250M?
Mole Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I wonder if Mick Channon has had anything to do with this? The Irish love their gee gees.
Delmary Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I hope it's McManus and Magnier as opposed to Anderson. 5Bn euros vs £250M?We can dream.
krissyboy31 Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Mmmmmmm...... very interesting. A colleague of Mark Fry was certainly looking very pleased with themselves this evening, but still giving absolutely nothing away. Maybe he was on a promise. :smt007
Whitey Grandad Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Teaching in Gosport we have never needed to reach such high standards! So - back to my problem... "Who did it?" "It was I." or "It was me." 'I did it. It was me.' or, "It was me what done it" is equally valid in some dialects.
SW11_Saint Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Sounds fantastic, as long as they don't move us to Dublin - "Dublin Saints" a la "Dublin Dons" that was mooted a few years ago... Great news. Hope it comes off. Get that green away kit in too...
saint_ed Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I hope it's McManus and Magnier as opposed to Anderson. 5Bn euros vs £250M? Nothing good happens to us. It will probably be Boyle worth £10million.
Right sider Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Does anyone actually have any proof of any of this, or is it another Allen type rumour?
kpturner Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Does anyone actually have any proof of any of this, or is it another Allen type rumour? The latter of course - hence the digression into grammar and spelling.
happiness stan Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Sounds fantastic, as long as they don't move us to Dublin - "Dublin Saints" a la "Dublin Dons" that was mooted a few years ago... Now that would be fantastic. You can all stay at mine for the home games ....oh dear God, what have I said?
Paul Chuckle Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Sounds fantastic, as long as they don't move us to Dublin - "Dublin Saints" a la "Dublin Dons" that was mooted a few years ago... Great news. Hope it comes off. Get that green away kit in too... LOL that's a rumour I had completely forgotten about
miserableoldgit Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Does anyone actually have any proof of any of this, or is it another Allen type rumour? The only "proof" you`ll get on here from now on will have the word "reading" after it.
DaintyDave Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Technically wrong, should never use "me" with "to be" in its past, present or future participle forms. Therefore should always be "It is/was/will be I" rather than me. To completely clear this up, I is the subject pronoun, me is the object pronoun. Therefore if you did something, use "I" if it was done to you or by you, use "me". Both can be correct depending on the situation. E.G. "It was (X and ) me" or "(X and ) I did it". And you a teacher. What chance do our children stand!
Mole Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I'd like to change my avatar to show my support for the bid, but couldn't bring myself to fly the Irish tricolour. Would anyone happen to know whether they are Southern Irish or Northern Irish?
Amesbury Saint Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 perhaps there will be a WGS connection afterall? Puts 2+2 together and gets 17
INSTA-CORRECT (since I apparently cannot edit) if it was done to you or BY SOMEONE ELSE to you. If it was done by you, use I. Oh for feck's sake. Subject of sentence - I Object of sentence - me Always I with "to be" Enough
eurosaint Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 To the best of my knowledge McManus and Magnier made a good profit when they sold their shares at Man U to the yanks and are about to do the same to Ellis Short at Sunderland ! Given their track record in football and probable personal contact to Mick Channon it all does tend to add up ! 2 + 2 normally = 4 but in this case we are talking about the Saints, so look out for a little leprachaun in the woodpile !!!! Ps. I hope that my punctuation is not too bad ??

krissyboy31 Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 The only "proof" you`ll get on here from now on will have the word "reading" after it. So you have proof that these Irish guys are actually buying Reading?

EastleighSoulBoy Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Too much information, we really do not need to know about your personal life...! Fair play fella!
Weston Super Saint Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 'I did it. It was me.' or, "It was me what done it" is equally valid in some dialects. Come now, that would never be heard! More likely : "It was 'Im wot done it".
krissyboy31 Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 I'd like to change my avatar to show my support for the bid, but couldn't bring myself to fly the Irish tricolour. Would anyone happen to know whether they are Southern Irish or Northern Irish? Use a shamrock, that should be ok for both.
miserableoldgit Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 some great moderating on this thread! It is educational. BTW, where is the capital letter at the start of your post?
St Chalet Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Back to the thread, the OP (if memory serves me right) has an excellent track record, superb form and will know the odds inside out.
Mole Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Hey - top marks for 'oirish' stereotypes, chaps. Pat and Mick landed themselves a job at a sawmill. Just before morning tea Pat yelled: "Mick! I lost me finger!" "Have you now?" says Mick. "And how did you do it?" "I just touched this big spinning thing here like this...Damn! There goes another one!"
Weston Super Saint Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Use a shamrock, that should be ok for both.
miserableoldgit Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 Use a shamrock, that should be ok for both. Or a picture of Graham Norton.
ladysaint Posted 26 May, 2009 Posted 26 May, 2009 One of the best ever footballers was Irish RIP George Best
