RedAndWhite91 Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Because my laptop has a rubbish hard drive in which I only have about 5gb worth of space left (after deleting stuff and moving stuff) I got an external hard drive which has so much free space. If I wanted to buy a PC game, which, for example, needed 6gb minimum free, could I install the game onto my external hard drive and then play it off of there. Does this work? Would it mean no more space is taken up on my actual hard drive? Any help on this would be appreciated, thanks.
Weston Super Saint Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Pretty sure there is no reason why you can't do it. However it will most likely slow the game down as it would have to read the data from that drive over a USB connection...
RedAndWhite91 Posted 26 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 26 May, 2009 I'll probably try it on an old game before I buy a new one just to test it. Thanks.
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 I do just that. Saves cluttering up my main drive with games, films and music.
thesaint sfc Posted 27 May, 2009 Share Posted 27 May, 2009 I thought games often required being installed on the C drive?
Guest Dark Sotonic Mills Posted 27 May, 2009 Share Posted 27 May, 2009 I thought games often required being installed on the C drive? I haven't come across one yet that I've had a problem with. You need to install to the external drive though, just not copied across.
Weston Super Saint Posted 27 May, 2009 Share Posted 27 May, 2009 I thought games often required being installed on the C drive? Pretty much every game allows you to choose where to install it, it goes to 'C:' by default...
