CFSt.Matt Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Nope, the yanks wanted something about £2 million for DeMarcus Beasley, we didn't think he was worth it and to be fair, that was maybe right, he didn't do anything at Man City and hasn't impressed that much at Rangers. We offered £2M for Beasley. PSV offered £2M. And Champions League football. He chose them! Believe that!?

IamLeGod Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Chill out. Football club signs some rubbish players and may have also passed up on some other players. Gee whizz. It's such a pity we signed useless f*ckers like Marsden, Beattie, Svennson and Neimi. PS - there was not a meeting where Southampton football club had to decide between signing Didier Drogba or Brett Ormerod there and then. Im not saying there was, it was in reference to comments that Drogba would have been a poor signing whilst at a similar time we signed Ormerod for similar money, given where the two poor players have gone since, has to be judged as a poor decision Also it what way and how was Niemi useless? He was one of THE top keepers in the Prem at the time?

MarkSFC Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 I think it was Bitterne Park. It was Bitterne Park, my brother played against him for his school (who were national champions) and he wasnt very "standout" at 15/16 (unlike Franny eg), which is apparently why Saints didnt take him and the Skates did! Crab Lungs Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Malbranque, Fletcher, Saha... De Pedro? Andy Reid. Locally, in my time, Brian Stock (who was a year above me in school) and Brian Howard, who I played with at local level football for a time. Damn Howard, his left foot was slightly better than mine! 70's Mike Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 has to be Graham Roberts for me, we have rarely produced good defenders not sure how he got through the net although to be fair he was a late developer , playing for Sky Blues mens team in early 70's in Southampton Sunday League , i think he was about 15 then ? david in sweden Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Phillips was a left back i believe and didn't make the grade. Soo he then left to become prem top goal scorer a few times, good move for the academy me thinks ....some players are played in a wrong position. Like Frannie Benali (who didn't get away) but played left winger as as a schoolboy (and scored goals) but was converted to become one of the legendary left backs. kpturner Posted 26 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 26 May, 2009 Thanks - with some tenuous links there probably is enough to make a team, although it seems a bit light in defense and some are playing (way) out of position. 1) Kevin Pressman 2) Kevin Phillips 3) Graham Roberts 4) Dennis Wise (great centre-half) 5) Wade Elliott 6) Brian Howard 7) Darren Anderton 8 ) Paul Gascoigne 9) Scott McDonald 10) Paul Rideout 11) Steve Guppy Subs === Jamie Cureton Sam Vokes Bobby Robson Brian Stock "Made in Southampton" Not sure if Cureton and Eadie are correct though so I have missed them out for now. westmidlandsaint Posted 26 May, 2009 Share Posted 26 May, 2009 I thought Ben Thatcher was a Saints fan in his youth? As a family relation (distant) i can confirm that yes he was/is a Saints fan. As the family folklore goes Ben wasn't the most amused when Hoddle quit Saints and took over Spurs when Ben was playing there, he told Hoddle that he was a Saints fan and jokingly (although he did mean it) called Hoddle a Judas although, he didnt find it funny and they never got on. When Ben was sold to Leicester he was highly critical of Hoddle in the press. And of course it happened to be a coincidence that it was playing against Pompey that Ben was involved in that infamous tackle on Pedro Mendes. Dont know what all the fuss was about looked like a fair shoulder barge to me....................(joke. no excuse. thug.)
