miserableoldgit Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Sorry to start yet another take-over thread, but someone just told me that they had heard something on SSN re:- a Souness Consortium having tabled a bid. Anyone else hear this?
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Sorry to start yet another take-over thread, but someone just told me that they had heard something on SSN re:- a Souness Consortium having tabled a bid. Anyone else hear this? it was rangers yesterday so someone put on here
scotty Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 no, but any straw to grab at is welcome at the moment.
ladysaint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 I have also been told this, I thought Souness was in for us not for Rangers but stand to be corrected. On SSN it said Saints.
sambosa75 Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 I have been saying for a while I spoke to a client recently who said he was mates with Souness. He confirmed Souness is moving back down to Hampshire but wouldnt tell me if it was anything to do with Saints. Just said he's got a few business interests in the area.
SW11_Saint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 I have also been told this, I thought Souness was in for us not for Rangers but stand to be corrected. On SSN it said Saints. I'd be more than happy with him...
thegaffer Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Anyone confirm this? If so bring it on! Come on you Saints
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Me too. Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else
ladysaint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Do you think he is the overseas bidder/consortium that keeps getting mentioned.
miserableoldgit Posted 19 May, 2009 Author Posted 19 May, 2009 Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else Or as opposed to no-one else?
itchen Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else If he makes a bid that will automatically put him above everybody else.
thegaffer Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Hope! Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 it was rangers yesterday so someone put on here Rangers are really in the mire and given his connections with the country and club not to mention the size and potential then you could see they would be a more attractive proposition than ourselves. If Sambosa is correct then Southampton Airport and Flybe are great for flying to Glasgow and given a choice who would live in Scotland's central belt? Makes the inside of the M25 look green and pleasant. Perhaps Souness could set us up as a feeder club?
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 If he makes a bid that will automatically put him above everybody else. that is the only reason I can see.Again I will have some disagree but I dont believe he left us with any credit when he did.
krissyboy31 Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else He's a proper football man, with many contacts throughout the game and he knows and has a self confessed soft spot for the club (in other words, in it for the right reasons).
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Hope!Nice one. I think you know him through your charity golf , surely he would have given you the nod
iansums Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Very early on I seem to remember that one of the bidders was described as being a 'household name'. I think this quote was attributed to Mark Fry. Could this have been Souness?
Pancake Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else IMHO: 1) He is a footballing man, something we have been screaming out for on here for years. He isnt an IT salesman or a property dealer, he is 100% football. 2) He has been linked in various ventures before with big money from the Middle East. 3) He kind of knows the club from a working level not a fan level. 4) He is a "name" and therefore would find it easier to attract other "names" to the staff as and when needed (be it players or moneymen) 5) He has really good media links. Im not sure Lynham, Green or Jackson can call up as many people at Sky, BBC and ITV as GS could.

thegaffer Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 He gave us Ali Dia what more do you want? that is the only reason I can see.Again I will have some disagree but I dont believe he left us with any credit when he did.
krissyboy31 Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 I agree about football and contacts but never have seen him show any soft spot for us Every time he's been back as a manager, he has always been complimentary to us as fans and the club as a whole. The only reason he walked away in the first place is because he knew straight away he couldn't work for Rupert.
lettuce Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Souness always strikes me as someone who tells it like it is, straight up, no nonsense... exactly what we have been lacking for too long to mention! I'd be very happy with him, but I won't get excited until I see him photographed with a Saints scarf held aloft... (cue some archive photos from the last time he joined Saints!)
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Every time he's been back as a manager, he has always been complimentary to us as fans and the club as a whole. The only reason he walked away in the first place is because he knew straight away he couldn't work for Rupert.or allegedly the job he had lined up abroad
DT Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Rangers are really in the mire and given his connections with the country and club not to mention the size and potential then you could see they would be a more attractive proposition than ourselves. Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 He gave us Ali Dia what more do you want? On that basis alone difficult to assess who is the comedian.
Fan The Flames Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 I agree about football and contacts but never have seen him show any soft spot for us Turn him and his connected millions away, he'll be no good, he doesn't have a soft spot for us.
david in sweden Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 that is the only reason I can see.Again I will have some disagree but I dont believe he left us with any credit when he did. I think that many of us have only heard one side (RL) of that story. Seems to me that Souness was promised money for transfers but Lowe reneged on his promise of funding. I know that it was enough to force Lawrie Mac to resign (as director) in protest. His sudden departure did upset a lot, but there maybe more to it .
krissyboy31 Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Sounds good, but I doubt it quite pan out like that.He is obviously a wealthy man but is he wealthy enough to blow 20m on us He is wealthy (10's of millions) but his wife and her family I believe, are mega wealthy (100's of millions). However, I suspect that if this is correct, it ties in with the mystery foreign investment and the money will be coming from his business contacts in Italy or Turkey.
Toomer Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Do you think he is the overseas bidder/consortium that keeps getting mentioned. I take it you mean from the other side of Hadrians Wall Jan.
ladysaint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Why? I cant see what he would bring above anyone else Hello Mr Grumpy - as most have pointed out he is a footballing man with footballing contacts and of course an ex manager of ours. Not sure if he still has one of his houses in the area but know when he was here he did like it. IMO he is our best option.
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 On that basis alone difficult to assess who is the comedian.Behave NC, thegaffer will add some good humour and an asset
ladysaint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 I take it you mean from the other side of Hadrians Wall Jan. Pete, I did actually meant his middle east business connections.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 You've obviously never been to Glasgow then. Brilliant place. I agree, nothing wrong with the city centre and out towards Ibrox and the armadillo. I prefer it to Edinburgh. I also enjoy a good episode of Taggart but it doesn't mean i would like to live there.
Fan The Flames Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 You've obviously never been to Glasgow then. Brilliant place. yes but they vote Labour up there therefore 19 is certain it must be a ****hole
treggs23 Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 so has anyone actually confirmed that this was on SSN?
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 He is wealthy (10's of millions) but his wife and her family I believe, are mega wealthy (100's of millions). However, I suspect that if this is correct, it ties in with the mystery foreign investment and the money will be coming from his business contacts in Italy or Turkey. Any people to save the club I have invested my time and much emotion to will be welcomed.I just dont get the furore YET in Souness above anyother.
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Behave NC, thegaffer will add some good humour and an asset OK - off to watch Mock The Week
Nineteen Canteen Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 yes but they vote labour up there therefore 19 is certain it must be a ****hole snp
Toomer Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Pete, I did actually meant his middle east business connections. I new what you were on about Jan me just trying to cheer myself up sat in my office full of cold and not wanting to do anything.
Pancake Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Sounds good, but I doubt it quite pan out like that.He is obviously a wealthy man but is he wealthy enough to blow 20m on us One word: "Consortium". He has already tried to buy Wolves backed by unnamed but "UK Born and based" partners; and he was linked originally to us about 2 years ago, again with a consortium of moneymen behind him. Brian Kennedy rings a bell.
OldNick Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Hello Mr Grumpy - as most have pointed out he is a footballing man with footballing contacts and of course an ex manager of ours. Not sure if he still has one of his houses in the area but know when he was here he did like it. IMO he is our best option.Mr Grumpy!!...oh Ok you're right. I didnt appreciate how he left us before. In fact he playedin the testimonial at the end of his season in charge and the fans didnt give him the greatest reception. I just want SOMEBODY and am getting a bit cheesed that ewveryone is leaving it to the last second whihcis risking our clubs life

I have spent the last couple of hours reading all the shate that 19 C has posted on various threads and I have not responded but this is the last straw. Scotlands Central Belt as you put it has many , many green and very Pleasent areas , much more so than the inside of the M25. I have lived in both areas and I can assure you your comments on this subject are like your comments on Crouch and all other things Saints related , Complete Fantasy. You my friend are a hapless fool of the highest order.
SW11_Saint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 You my friend are a hapless fool of the highest order. ....and so say all of us!!!
SW11_Saint Posted 19 May, 2009 Posted 19 May, 2009 Do you think he is the overseas bidder/consortium that keeps getting mentioned. Just watched SSN for 15 mins or so, but no mention. Yes, I wondered if that might be him - or maybe the Canadians. Hopefully someone is out there!
