OldNick Posted 24 May, 2009 Share Posted 24 May, 2009 I felt bad leaving when the StPeppers were playing, they were entertaining for all us old Beatles fans. Big Num were load and energetic.Sadly a lot of the heavy stuff was too loud for my old ears.but you could hear it outside well.Coast were very good. kpturner Posted 24 May, 2009 Share Posted 24 May, 2009 So how did it go? How many people showed up?Not sure that it will be possible to tell. I only managed the "fun day" bit with the family and to be honest I expected to see more people there than I did. I am not sure what the expectation was for this bit - somewhere between 500 and 1000 people I guess. If there was a steady trickle in and out throughout the afternoon then it may have got somewhere near that perhaps? I wonder if the organisers will publish the final takings? I am hoping that a large percentage of the money I kept chucking at those "win a prize" stalls went to the club (allowing for the cost of the prizes of course). OldNick Posted 24 May, 2009 Share Posted 24 May, 2009 I must admit I thought that the bouncy castles etc would be buzzing. It is hard to say but my estimation would be 300 in the afternoon. It seems many have lost their love of the club.

$$$ Posted 24 May, 2009 Share Posted 24 May, 2009 So how did it go? How many people showed up?Not great. I only got there at 8 ish but it looked like there was only 200 people there at best. Enjoyed the last two bands but pretty shocked how few people were there. Jackson was definitely there and wearing a stripy shirt with his russian bride in tow. Was going to have a chat but resisted as I would have got too angry. If he is the best chance we have, I would rather the club was liquidated. I don't know what the total takings will be (or what they were expected to be) but I think that the organisers and all those that have supported the event(s) by taking part should be congratulated. I think it might end up being a drop in the ocean though, and we can't do this every week that a buyer is not found either.
OldNick Posted 24 May, 2009 Share Posted 24 May, 2009 I was talking to a friend whose lads are in Big Num spurs fans and he said how can the city let the club and facilities go? he also said what a good area the itchen concourse was and would be quite a good facility to be used for small gigs.Another revenue stream for the club perhaps? Saints Warrior Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Shame more fans couldnt attend even if just to see the bands as a music event, if you watched most of the bands it would be less than 50pence a band. I even spotted a Skate in one of the bands, I did shout somehting out to make him feel welcolme but fair play to the Skate for helping out Saints which is more than the players have done. many posts on the echo advised fans not to go as the money will go into a black hole or to administrator so that didnt help. But looks like many fans now dont want to be a part of the club with such big earner players and all the big share holders etc. That puts the block on anymore events to raise money. krissyboy31 Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 The event was excellent and Si, Lee, Nick and the guys did a great job organising it. I too, was surprised and disappointed that there weren't more people in attendance. I wondered up for a couple of hours in the afternoon and again from about 7.30 to the end. As I walked away from SMS at about 4.30 I heard 2 women with toddlers/prams in toe talking about the event. Discussing that it wasn't very busy, one said to the other that they had only found out about it in the morning and didn't think it had been very well advertised. May be if there is a criticism, then that would be it. I know it was well covered on here and on both the web-site and facebook page but not much in the local press/tv (or even the os) until a day or so before the event. But the message may not have got out to enough of the general public. I took my daughter along and she knew nothing about it until I rang her to ask if she fancied going (and she's at Southampton Uni) Not everybody lives in cyberspace. Al de Man Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Well done to all who organized this in such a short time. I echo that sentiment. They did a cracking job, especially when you consider that they only had a month or so to do it all, and still had lives to lead away from organising. SimonRichards Posted 25 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Well done to all who organized this in such a short time. Thanks. All of us organisers, Nick, Lee, David, Glynn and myself have had to do this around our work and family commitments. Lee actually had to take 2 weeks unpaid leave to help set this up. We are disappointed that we didn't get the numbers of people we predicted. Those who did make the events had a good time. The non food at the fun day was not out fault. We had to use the clubs contracted food outlets, and there (I believe) we a mix up with the dates, so they didn't show. Don't forget the final Saints Aid event is on tonght at Oceana's Bar Quater. Headlining a string of fine DJs is Southamptons finest, the Artful Dodger.
saints triumph Posted 25 May, 2009 Share Posted 25 May, 2009 Much respect and thanks to the guys that help put this event on. Total shame on the knobs that posted all there negative crap on the echo site. The Itchen concourse was an ideal venue for the gig. Shame there wasn't more there as they missed a brilliant and well set up gig. The sound quality was awsome, as were the bands. Will post a link to some videos I took later when I have time. Perhpas we dont have the commitment of the fans we really thought we had I agree with your first point. Welldone to those who did the organising. On the second point it's not everyones cup of tea - studenty bands aren't my taste in music. And with a recession on people are tightening their purse strings. Also there's the feeling that why should we pay players wages. And perhaps it could have been promoted better (but this is not meant as a criticism as those who orgainised the event don't deserve that).
