hughieslastminutegoal Posted 18 May, 2009 Share Posted 18 May, 2009 It's the inexorable concentration of money in the hands of a few clubs. In the interests of making them competitive in Europe, Rangers and Celtic will inevitably be led to eventually joining the PL at the expense of a couple of English minnows. Once they have established themselves there, the PL will be made even smaller to suit a concurrent Euro League, paid for largely by TV. We already have football fixture lists organised to suit tv schedules, not the paying/travelling fans. The big teams are just choc-a-block with foreign players, so there is nothing "local" to support. Even the owners are increasingly foreign. What will a supporter of a local premiership club actually be "supporting"? About the only local thing about it will be paying Council tax on the ground. Dicko Posted 18 May, 2009 Share Posted 18 May, 2009 I have been saying for some years now, that there needs to be changes, or football as we know it will die. Many of us laughed at th SPL, with only two teams in contention each year, now look at the the PL, same old teams in the top four. Below I detailed some changes I would like to see, and thought this would be a subject for discussion, so please fill your boots. Solution:- Handicap them, like in golf. Each year start the top half on minus points....champions -15, runners up -14 third -13 etc etc. A wage cap is a must. The play offs must be between third/forth from bottom, against third and forth in the next league down. 3 points for a win, 2 points for a score draw 1 point for a no score draw. An extra point awarded for scoring 3 goals or more. A sin bin should be introduced as in rugby. Get rid of penalty shoot outs, the teams should play extra time, and every five minutes, have to reduce their team by one player......golden goal applies. The handicap idea is rubbish Teams would be punished for being successful. What about the year we finished runners-up?, we'd start the next season with -14points! That's worse than being in administration Play-Offs Why change them? They are brilliant as they are - we had relegation play-offs before & they weren't so good Extra points for score draws Another useless idea. 3pts for a win was introduced to encourage teams to go for a win. If the match is 1-1 with 15mins to go, teams will shut up shop & happily take 2pts. Why risk going for an extra point when you could lose 2? Extra pts for extra goals Why? Surely this is contradicting yourself, because it's the best clubs who would get the additional points Penalty shoot-outs Other things have been tried. Pens have been proven to be the best & most entertaining way to finish a game Salary Caps Difficult to introduce. Why should Man Utd with 75000 crowds get salary capped like Wigan with 18000 crowds. It would have to go on last years turnover, but what about clubs getting promoted? Their turnover is going to rise beyond their wildest dreams Basically, it won't work
