PES Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 As a former favourite of the Saints, Kevin Keegan would be a fantastic appointment should one of the prospective buyers seal the deal. He would galvanise your fanbase and whilst the game may of past him by slightly at Premier level, has a fantastic record of promoting lower league clubs. I wonder if it could happen?

St Chalet Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I am sure he has already been appointed. I am also sure he has since quit due to the pressure.
thorpie the sinner Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I am sure he has already been appointed. I am also sure he has since quit due to the pressure. wouldn't that be interesting information if it was proved to be true in 5 years time lol?
paulwantsapint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 The KK factor is gives average players great confidence in their own abillity in the short term If he came I would want a proper no2 to be groomed to take over as soon as KK goes as far as he can
Amesbury Saint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 whoever the new owners are, they will need people involved in the club that create a wave of optimism across Southampton (if only to sell STs). Keegan is one of those people who can create that optimism.
saintbletch Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I'll bite PES. As a non-Saints fan, what made you start a thread on the main board with such a left-field suggestion? Any inside knowledge there?
Cricketphilly Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 Dreadful idea, he may have motivated players 15 years ago, but irrelevant to the young players today. Also spent money at a greater rate than Redknapp.
Made in Southampton Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I'll bite PES. As a non-Saints fan, what made you start a thread on the main board with such a left-field suggestion? Any inside knowledge there? Oh god no don't start.
Amesbury Saint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 Question Keegan as manager? Keegan as DoF? or Keegan as owner? which would be best
Wade Garrett Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 Anyone who wouldn't want Keegan here is quite deranged! Remember what division we are in. As much chance of it happening as me growing a 24 inch penis though (only another 23 to go).
Armitage Shanks Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 This could be much nearer to the truth than people realise
The9 Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 As a former favourite of the Saints, Kevin Keegan would be a fantastic appointment should one of the prospective buyers seal the deal. He would galvanise your fanbase and whilst the game may of past him by slightly at Premier level, has a fantastic record of promoting lower league clubs. I wonder if it could happen? Yippee, a tactically naive and often clueless proven quitter who has walked out of his last few jobs, just what we need... That Jose Mourinho was a hell of a player. Roy Hodgson too.
whizzpop Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 Would like to see him as a dir of football, and maybe have someone like Benali, Wriddrington or Nick Holmes as manager/head coach.
OldNick Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 PES is a skate so I dont know whether this is done for the best reasons. Haven't seen much of you recently on here?
saintbletch Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 PES is a skate so I dont know whether this is done for the best reasons. Haven't seen much of you recently on here? In the best Trousersesque traditions of seeing a conspiracy where none exists, I did a search of PES' posts and found that "he" was the first poster to supply the name and weight of MLT's new baby daughter. Having previously not posted frequently prior to this or since. I therefore jumped to the conclusion that this KK information has "obviously" been provided to PES from a source very close to the situation. PES - what made you (a Pompey fan) start this thread today?
VectisSaint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 has a fantastic record of promoting lower league clubs. No he doesn't. He has a very ordinary record of promoting clubs who have lots and lots of dosh.

PES - what made you (a Pompey fan) start this thread today? PES has been always a wel balance Skate and always been fair.AS for the MLT thing that was interesting but surely only a woman would be worried about a babies weight and name!
rocknrollman no2 Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I wouldnt want KK back here because if we were to lose a few games, then he would be off.Who ever comes here,we need someone whos going to stay long term.
bigchrisy Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I wouldn't mind King Kev coming back but then to be fair i would rahter take on someone with a knowledge of the divison
Baj Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I'd prefer a manager to kevin keegan (no, there's no typo above)
Bailey Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 KK without money to spend ? I don't think so. Would rather have Hoddle personally . . .
dubai_phil Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 This could be much nearer to the truth than people realise Wonder if MLT has any good ideas on the sort of person who we need and who would be available and who he could influence to come on board?
IamLeGod Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 Regardless of whether we want him or not, he quite simply won't come to us. He retired after leaving Man City, was tempted back to the Barcodes as the have a connection, where he left pretty unceremoniously due to background troubles, and grumblings and disenchanted fans? Sound at all familiar? His time at Saints was short lived and unhappy for him? What would tempt him here exactly?
Weston Super Saint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 Question Keegan as manager? Keegan as DoF? or Keegan as owner? which would be best Keegan sunning himself on a secluded beach somewhere drinking ****tails and enjoying his retirement. At least he wouldn't be able to quit that!
RedAndWhite91 Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I'd love it! I'd definitely have him as our manager, reckon he could do a job for us in League One.
saintbletch Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 PES has been always a wel balance Skate and always been fair.AS for the MLT thing that was interesting but surely only a woman would be worried about a babies weight and name! I don't doubt the balance and fairness nickh and as a result of that and the infrequent posting, creating a thread like this in the early hours of the morning with a winking smiley struck me as unusual behaviour. Maybe PES is looking to start a rumour. Maybe he has heard a rumour from a source. Or was it that PES was unable to sleep wondering whether Keegan might join his team's local rivals so he logged on here to post at 1:27am.
Mole Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 He might not last, but i'd love him to be our manager as it'd bring a buzz to the city in the same way he did when Lawrie signed him. SFC NEEDS A BOOST LIKE THIS MORE THAN EVER. Keegan is as much a part of Southampton folklore as he is of Newcastle folklore.
doggface Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 the pinnacle & mlt bid have not approached anyone about the managers position yet as they want to get their feet under the table first.
Tamesaint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 the pinnacle & mlt bid have not approached anyone about the managers position yet as they want to get their feet under the table first. Thanks doggface. Are they that confident at the moment that they will be in pole position when the dust has all died down???
saint lard Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 the pinnacle & mlt bid have not approached anyone about the managers position yet as they want to get their feet under the table first. hope they get a wriggle on,they need to pull up a chair sharpish first.
Mole Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 If they got Keegan in it'd add 5 thousand to the gates imo. It would be a very prudent business decision.
dubai_phil Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 the pinnacle & mlt bid have not approached anyone about the managers position yet as they want to get their feet under the table first. Ah ha so as a Journalist this comment would read.... The Pinnacle group & MLT have refused to deny rumours linking them with the possibility of a shock return to football for Kevin Keegan. Whilst denying any direct approach has been made, the possibility remains that they may well have drawn up a possible shortlist of candidates to talk to once they conclude their dealings with Mark Fry late tomorrow afternoon. See there's the Echo's front page tomorrow

saintchris23 Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I flew on the Kevin Keegan Flybe plane back from Newcastle this afternoon! Is that a sign?
Mole Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I flew on the Kevin Keegan Flybe plane back from Newcastle this afternoon! Is that a sign? Cue the Echo headline "Keegan jets into Southampton the eve of takeover"
gjphilsaint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 There are plenty of "would be " managers who should never be (or have been) managers. They typify everything wrong with the game.... promoted into responsibility because of some "emotional reputation", I think Keegan fits into this category. He and his kind act like a "sugar rush" that stimulate a club (and fanbase) beyond reasonable expectations* and just like any "high" it is followed by significant troughs of depression and despair. We dont need this! * I accept that KK's first stint as manager at Newcastle brought dividends, but their period of "stimulation" was quite a prolonged FIRST TIME ROUND. (oh er missus).

Alain Perrin Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 I agree it would have a positive impact but I think It would be prudent to make sure he had a good number 2. Why? Is the plumbing suspect in the manger's office toilet?
gjphilsaint Posted 17 May, 2009 Posted 17 May, 2009 (edited) Why has cocaine suddenly come to mind? Indeed blind faith in lost hopes is an addiction ask Newcastle Utd!! Edited 17 May, 2009 by gjphilsaint spelling

Employ KK only on the condition we employ McMenemy and Pearson as his managerial team. It would be good to lay to rest 3 myths at the same time. The myth that any of them are capable of repeating their previous success at this club and I use the term success with regard to Pearson in the loosest possible terms. How about Richard Wright for manager? He kept us up last year in very fortunate circumstances for big Nige. Pity really we could have been celebrating our recent promotion from Division 1, thanks Richard you have a lot to answer for.
