I've waited long enough for saints and Fry to sort themselves out; just heard today that I have qualified for a ST at Emirates so got to decide whether to send off my cheque over weekend. At least it's Premiership football and at least they've got Walcott and at least they play in red & white. Can't be in two places at once 'though so looks like Saints and me are all washed up. All those years down the drain and for what? It's their own fault, too many false dawns and broken promises.

You should be bloody well ashamed of yourself with that attitude.

Getting back on topic, the other week I met one of Mark Fry's colleagues - obviously far too professional to give anything away ( frustrating as hell though this was, only to be expected.) This person, however, had been working on the Bournemouth situation for a very long time. They said that one of the reasons it takes so long is that all the people involved in football like to do "deals", often many of them are not even in writing but committed to verbally with players' agents. Once you get into the details of buying a club you find an amazing amount of deals come out of the woodwork - they all have to be studied, you have to find out what you are actually committing to.

Also, if property development is included in the bid, perhaps there have been talks going on with the council re: planning permission, etc. If this is the case, it WILL take ages, and what you bid will be dependent on what you are allowed to do development wise.

Booooo!!!

I saw Andover play quite a bit as a kid, we lived a few hundred yards from the Walled Meadow, but I never felt I was a supporter. I saw Reading and Ipswich now and then because we had family nearby, but I could never get very excited.

If Saints go under I shall porbably give up following football altogether, there is just no other team I could feel the same way about, no other team I would feel the same rush for at 3 o'clock on a Saturday afternoon.

I cannot describe how bad I feel about the current situation, especially when you think the wages of one top Premiership player for one year could get us out of a spot and I imagine the administrator haggling over pennies.

There is something badly wrong in English game and SFC is a symptom. If we are saying RIP SFC this time next week the FA and the FL need to take a long hard look at themselves, not for me - I won't be watching football, but for the sake of all those other fans who will suffer the way we have. :smt013

The Walled Meadow, the Portway just isn't the same. What was it after the game a quick crawl round the pubs in and around the high street, Globe, George, Foresters, Southampton Arms or a bit of head banging in the Borough followed by a drink in the Adelaide but only cravate wearers allowed! Rounded off by some disco inferno in NW Hants Premier Night Spot the Country Bumpkin. I could easily go back to watching Andover and still occassionally watch them if I'm around. Something about watching football where you genuinely feel you could run on and make a difference, come on you Lions!

Your loss will be mourned 19.

Taken out of context again Robbie, your good at twisting the post of others to suit your agenda. IF SAINTS FOLDED WAS THE DISCUSSION and in that scenario I could easily go and support Andover and leave the rest of you to support an endless diet of Champions and Europa League games with no real allegiances.

Football is eating itself like some bloated tape worm. How many teams have gone into administration the last 2 seasons? 6 is it? Is that usual? It doesn't appear to worry anyone in the game but it may start to worry Saints and Darlington fans for starters as the golden goose is officially a fairy tale.

Enjoy your new team 19, perhaps you could ask Rupert to buy it as well... mind you I doubt he'd put any of his own money in though given a 100% track record of failing to do so thus far in his football chairmanship roles.

Love making you as angry as the many many other readers of this messageboard who read your daft comments and bite their lips rather than reply. ;)

19 is it, the other day it was Andrew Cowen as you informed the forum of this fact that you knew so admantantly. Egg on your plate this morning?

Surely you've got better things to be doing with your sad life. Now that you have destroyed Saints, just go and wreck some other defenceless business. All very sad Andrew

You know who I am Andrew, I'm the one you wanted sacked at Christmas remember. Yes, I do have contacts in high places and know for a fact you were Sundance because you stupidly told someone who has since told me. All very sad. Thought you'd have known better than to let that slip.

I think someone is winding you up Holbury. On one occassion when 19 posted, at the same time Andrew Cowen was sat down eating. I know, I was in the room at the time.

I also know who 19 is and he is definately not Andrew Cowen. The owners of this forum will confirm.

Was this the same guy who said there'd be a press conference at 2pm, or the guy who said Allen was taking over, or the guy who owned the monkeychicken petting zoo????

Considering the changes we've had in the boardroom over the last 3 years this would seem to be a very logical explaination of taking times to tie up odds and ends.

Lets hope its lots of little snags and no big ones and that we have a club to support next season

Regardless of what people think of Cowen, I do credit him with some intelligence, which is all too often lacking in 19's posts!

When you buy the Guardian Duncan or pay your paper bill do you go in disguise? Must admit you haven't struck me as a fence sitting liberal.

Among other sweeping generalisations such as:

Do you and your mates all goose step down to collect your daily Mails? Having cut eye holes in your bed linen so you don't trip over?

I've bought the mail before. I'm scared because I might be a nazi and I don't realise. :(

I'm sure you realise that I used it as an example of a 'sweeping generalisation'?

I know several people who read the Mail and they're not Nazis.

LOL. The Mirror more your rag or perhaps the Socialist Worker? As a fully paid-up member of the fence sitting liberal brigade myself, I can appreciate the clichéd humour. But I suggest you to take a look at the Guardian's sports coverage - across all mediums (paper, email, web, blog, video and podcast). It really is very very good.

Oh and I've found that if you're worried about coming out of the closet in front of the newsagent, Costa Coffee will loan you a paper while you sip your morning coffee. I've even taken a peak at the Daily Fascist once or twice at Costa's. Just remember to wear your dark glasses.

Only voted Liberal when tactically voting NC.

Won't be voting for anyone next election mind you.

Just as a quick aside, I always voted Lib Dem at general Election time. It helps to keep the Tories out of Eastleigh! I shall continue to do so, even though I am totally disheartened by Labour I have no wish, even now, to return to how we were under TBW!

And if this is the 'preferred bid' - what does it say about the others?!

Worrying indeed, if they can't satisfactorily prove their financial guarantees for the club purchase, what does it say about their ability to invest in the future?

I was really hoping this "mystery foreign bid" (as mentioned by Echo) might come to light, but it seems Pinnacle are still the #1 option at present.

I think the 'mystery foreign bid' is a red herring designed to smoke out bids from domestic parties. Why would a foreign bidder be interested in you? There's nothing but debt, debt and more debt, and precious little income. If you were still in the Premiership I could see the possibility, but out of it? No chance. It'll be a local fans consortium or a UK based chancer at best.....

Sadly I suspect its being a scabbling effort to sow the money is ready to be handed over .... all the other possible delays are clutching at straws IMHO as they are all things that can be overcome with money and time.... just a hunch as we have said before when other clubs have been bought or taken over, it happens quite quickly... only we have these things drawn..... ;-(

I have no clue what is going on at St Marys but after reading this forum over the past few weeks I seem to recall a few people saying yesterday that the Stadium is getting sold seperate.

I remember seeing in the Daily Echo last week that a oversea's group had contacted Pinnacle to see if they wanted to merge with them.

Maybe this 'oversea's' group will be buying the stadium and Pinnacle will be buying the club and training ground?

Yeah, but we're still the biggest club on the south coast - biggest ground, biggest catchment area, best infrastructure etc. etc. - so a bargain at the knock-down price they're asking.

Two things to clear up 100%.

1/ Proof of funds just shows the capability to do a deal. i.e. I have x mil tucked away somewhere. Financial guarantees in this instance arise because not all of the money is being paid at once - some are contingency payments - so the buyers have to sort out how that is worded and guarantee that if they have the access to funds now, that beyond that they (the funds) will remain available ongoing.

2/ No-one has seen the player contracts yet. Until someone submits a bid, pays a deposit and signs a contract, all they get are "reps and warranties" - statements from the club and administrator - with some basic docs (financial statements, lists of assets etc). When they get the preferred bidder status, then literally a "clean room" is created where the bidder's team gets to sit in a physical office at the club (plus an online login) and go through all the really confidential stuff. The non-refundable deposit is to secure the stability of the club in the interim, so at this point the bidder is committed to buying the club at a price of X.....if anything "material" changes in diligence from what was represented to them by the club, there will be a price adjustment.

Hope that helps

Certainly did, but not much else and if I remember the landlady was not exactly Bet Lynch more Germaine Greer but less welcoming and more opinionated. Probably spent to long in there, thinking back.
