yes please to lita, duberry, murty, bennett and Hahnemann (if we can't keep KD).

If we could get golbourne as well it would be good as I remember him being very highly rated at one point.

Seems quite odd - its not like none of those players can't do a pretty decent job in the CCC.

And odd that they've done this before the manager is appointed, too.

Posted

They may possibly may have seen what happened at Saints and are doing what we should have done in summer 2007 and freeing up wages instead of gambling with their future!

Posted

They probably feel these players are not good enough to get them promoted no matter who is the manager.

Madjeski may be be prepared to spend some money in an attempt to get a decent manager and promotion. I think they still get reasonable crowds too.

I think they have more ambition (and resources) than just doing a 'decent' job in the CCC.

Some clubs are lucky to be in the CCC, some are happy to be mid table and profitable, and others have no other goal than winning promotion.

Madejski is a shrewd businessman

These players are probably some of higher earners & a new manager will have new ideas

They're struggling to fill the stadium. I work in the shade of the Madejski stadium, and they send e-mail alerts across the business park here encouraging us to come to the games. He's likely minimising costs across the summer months as revenue will be zilch (apart from the rugger). A new manager will likely want to bring in his own players.

They probably look at those thwats down the road and decide financial freefall down a 60' sword with only the family jewels for brakes was not for them. Even with another year of the parachure left!

My mates a big reading fan and season ticket holder, plus go to reading for Uni so up there quite a lot.

Thing is they are not as good as made out TBH, this year was there 5th best finish EVER (and bear in mind they were in prem for 2 of them) they only came up in 2001 also.

They don't fill the stadium (were only getting 16k a few years ago when battling for promotion).

Personally i can see them begin to decline, unfortunately they are one of those clubs i feel have had their time in the sun, they are simply not big enough.

But back to topic, i would take all of their released players.

From Readings point of view Murty is past it, Lita on a huge wage and a troublemaker, Bennett not good enough, likewise Dubery. I guess Hanneman is a big wage earner and they are cutting their cloth accordingly as we all kn ow there is a big difference between the incomes in the two divisions.

Lita would be amazing but well out of our league. I still think he could do a job in the Premiership.

I couldn't disagree more. Madjeski is the last man I can think of to go "balls out" for promotion. His next manager will have a strict budget to work to and promotion will happen if it happens. He won't buy it.

Blimey Reading know how to have a clear out dont they! if only we had a board in the past that did the same :(

:)We did at virtually the same time. But along came the financial pikeys who quickly got the squad and wages up immediately.

Murty certainly, decent defender and leadership qualities that we lack.

And being a natural right-back, it would allow James (if still here) to move into his more natural midfield position. Now, if we could just sort out the takeover thing, we can get cracking - now there's good chaps...

Murty is good... and would be affordable.

Duberry is washed up, would be rubbish in any league he plays in.

Golbourne is half decent, worth a punt.

Lita, yes, but won't come here (he could do it in the Prem to be honest, let alone the Champ or L1!) and the GK (no going to attempt his name when I'm this tired!) also.

Despite most of them getting them promoted the last time around and being good enough to be in their Premier League squad just under a year ago...

...they are obviously cutting costs in line with their second year of CCC status - as we should have done.

As for ANY of them other than maybe the possibly past it Murty coming to Saints at the moment, you're having a laugh.

we did? I thought we only collected players and turned into a feeder club to the physio department :D

Murty lives in Hook near Basingstoke, wouldn't need to uproot his family to join us. Would be a good captain in League One.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him at Charlton though, after his loan spell there. That's if they still have Parkinson as manager though, giving it the ex-Reading connection.

Met Murty in Tesco in Hook quite a few times, nice chap and always happy to have a chat. Would be a fantastic player for us in L1 but I can't see him coming here.

On the nail. We are an example to all.

Would take all of them without thinking about it. Only problem is I don't see them wanting to play in League One.

100% agree, whilst i was for giving wotte a shot, I would love it if we could somehow steal Coppel now he has gone too, though i obviously no this is somewhat of a long shot

I agree he won't risk everthing for one season. However, I do see him as wanting more than mid table security in the CCC.

Hahnemann is terrible, if KD went I'd rather take our chances on Forecast.

Murty would be decent, but I get the impression he's a bit injury prone.

Gordon Bennett would be decent but I expect he'll go to Brentford as well.

Duberry is past it and we'd have no chance with Lita.

Reading release players too expensive for the top of the CCC, and we are in a relegation battle 40 places below them.

We can't afford them.

They don't want to come.
