Tac-tics Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 According to the Daily Star has been realesed and rejected a move to MLS side Toronto, home to our own Jim Brennen. Just fyi Barely a surprise he's gone, pressume this was his last year on the contract?
dubai_phil Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Didn't seem to be that popular/successful at Brizzle either http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/sport/John-deal-didn-t-work-admits-Bristol-City-boss-Johnson/article-986719-detail/article.html
BotleySaint Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 See article. I quote - "John, who scored 96 goals in 65 internationals. " Bloody hell. Might be worth another look :-)
david in sweden Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 See article. I quote - "John, who scored 96 goals in 65 internationals. " Bloody hell. Might be worth another look :-) Mmm.... think they've got their stats. a bit wrong. Stern John is the second most-capped player ever for Trinidad and Tobago. in fact 104 caps ...and 69 goals. (still not bad though) (Wikipedia) He started his career in USA, then played for half a dozen prem sides In England (around 250 games) before moving to us - where he turned out 47 times and scored 19 goals before being loaned to Bristol City. (24 games - 2 goals.) Little irony was he scored 3 goals v. HULL in Dec.07 - but they still managed to win the play-offs to Prem.- but looks like they'll be back down this season.

Foxstone Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 See article. I quote - "John, who scored 96 goals in 65 internationals. " Bloody hell. Might be worth another look :-) Given the £12k per week he was reported to have been on I would suggest not!
Dicko Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 He was clearly getting released Shame, he was a true goalscorer & having met him in Tesco Ocean Village, a bloody good bloke too
fanimal Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 last game I saw us win as well was that game v Hull 17 long months ago...........
eelpie Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Didn't seem to be that popular/successful at Brizzle either http://www.thisisbristol.co.uk/sport/John-deal-didn-t-work-admits-Bristol-City-boss-Johnson/article-986719-detail/article.html Why the implication that he was unsuccessful here? He scored the goal that kept us up two seasons ago, and would undoubtedly have scored enough goals to have kept us up here last season (imho).
Papa Shango Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 For the ridiculous wages he didn't actually score many more than DMG (who is absolute ****e). Wrong Stern John 2007/08: Games: 40 Goals: 20 David McGoldrick 2008/09: Games: 46 Goals: 12
richardc Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 bl**dy hell how many goals do you need to score in a season to be classed good - only 3 players scored more than 20 goals this season and ebanks-blake scored 25 and wolves won the league - if john had scored 20 this season I dont think we would have finished where we did
a1ex2001 Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 He started his career in USA, then played for half a dozen prem sides In England (around 250 games) before moving to us - where he turned out 47 times and scored 19 goals before being loaned to Bristol City. (24 games - 2 goals.) I think you'll find he's spent most of his career at this level with only brief and mainly unsuccesfull spells in the prem, still a quality player at this level and I wish him well.
VectisSaint Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 That isn't irony Surely it would only be irony if it was against S****horpe
Smirking_Saint Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 For the record i think he scored so many international goals due to the overall poor quality of opposition.
Wilko Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 We would not have been relegated if he played up front all season.
shurlock Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Stern might possibly have got us out of the mire last season given the number of chances that went begging this season. Would have been particularly useful after Wotte came in and decided to go longer with Euell as target man. Would have provided less energy and running than Euell but would have held the ball up and finished many of gilt edge chances that Euell missed.
Papa Shango Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 For the record i think he scored so many international goals due to the overall poor quality of opposition. We would not have been relegated if he played up front all season. Both true.
david in sweden Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 For the record i think he scored so many international goals due to the overall poor quality of opposition. think that's closer to the truth , BUT ...a goal is a goal in the record books.
david in sweden Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 bl**dy hell how many goals do you need to score in a season to be classed good - only 3 players scored more than 20 goals this season and ebanks-blake scored 25 and wolves won the league - if john had scored 20 this season I dont think we would have finished where we did FOR THE RECORD. Only 3 Saints players in the last 20 years have achieved 20 goals in a season. Rasiak, Beattie ..and Matt Le Tissier (3 TIMES),so Stern John's 19 looks good.
Lets B Avenue Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 For the record i think he scored so many international goals due to the overall poor quality of opposition. 3rd division standard?
Window Cleaner Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 3rd division standard? worse than that. Bahamas standard. They may run fast but the football is diabolical. I've seen better Sunday League sides.
SamKimish Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Matthew Le God on Irony patrol again lol! How ironic ...
Ziggy Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 He lives round the corner from me and his lad is settled in a local school and so that might have something to do with his decision.
CHAPEL END CHARLIE Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 May I present Exhibit Number One for the defence M'lud :
