Saint in Paradise Posted 13 May, 2009 Posted 13 May, 2009 This is not as straight forward as you might think from just reading the title. http://nz.news.yahoo.com/a/-/top-stories/5565703/drunk-driver-appears-drunk-court/ I regret to say that NZ appears to have a very high tolerence towards repeat drunk drivers. The Police must be absolutely livid with the slap on the wrist that the Courts hand out time after time after time. Sorry it's in the Lounge but I am unable to post in the Motoring section for some reason. .
Saint in Paradise Posted 14 May, 2009 Author Posted 14 May, 2009 This menace to all road users, who was banned from ever having a licence in 2005, got a jail sentence of one year. This of course will only be about 6 months and when she comes out she will get special help.

Weston Super Saint Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 To be fair it's a valid reason why she was driving in the first place, her being the least ****ed of the three of them
St Landrew Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 Semi interesting bit of NZ/Car trivia: Insurance is still NOT compulsory, just highly recommended.
Saint Martini Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 I don't see what the outrage against the court here is. Isn't sentencing just suspended because the defendant was ****ed? What's the problem? (Except for the defendants infuriating behaviour)

(Except for the defendants infuriating behaviour) Sorry but would the Courts in your country give you only 6 months in prison with her record of 8 counts of drunk driving and 15 counts of driving without a licence ?

No, no they wouldn't. More likely a £50 fine and a week or so of community service
