miserableoldgit Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 From Charles Sale in todays Daily Mail:- Portsmouth's financial problems are now serious enough to be causing major concern to the Premier League. They are worried that the club may not be able to continue much longer as a going concern with sustainable debt — especially now the League have announced they are strengthening their monetary checks and improving transparency of ownership on the back of questions about football governance by Culture Secretary Andy Burnham. It is proving difficult to unravel the exact state of Portsmouth’s finances because the ultimate company that owns the club is based in the financial labyrinth of Luxembourg, where Pompey owner Alexandre Gaydamak has varied interests. miserableoldgit Posted 14 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Todays installment:- Troubled Portsmouth, whose £65m worth of debts include £40m owed to the South African Standard Bank, look to have no choice but to sell players to survive. The bank expect a substantial payment at the end of the season while owner Alexandre Gaydamak has loaned the club £25m but is not prepared to invest further. How are they allowed to get away with having twice the debt we had, playing in that sh!t hole of a ground, paying the wages they do every week, never turning a profit and only piling up huge losses every year. If they go down next season they will be utterly foooooked.

spyinthesky Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Dont believe all you read in the papers. As we speak Corps Ho is out there with new backers who are about to inject substantial sums into the club If that doen't work Pompey do have considerable saleable assets such as Johnson/Krancjar/Crouch/Pennant etc. Even the lad up front (who used to play for PNE) would fetch a couple of million. They should be able to reduce their wage bill massively and, with good management, could still survive in the Prem. Question is where does the money come from the redevelop fratton Park and pay for the Training Ground? Would have really been interesting if Pompey had been relegated this year. For the decent Pompey fans, I hope all goes relatively well for you. For the significant band of knuckledraggers, here's hoping for a massive fall from grace
spyinthesky Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Forgot to say, the fall back position is to sell the [portrait of Johnnie Westwood soon to be displayed in the National Gallery. Understand uber fan Fred Dineage is willing to shell out to buy Perhaps we ought to try the sme tactic with the painting of the Doncaster Steam Loco!! Eyes k8 Posted 17 May, 2009 Share Posted 17 May, 2009 Question Mack, whats worth more - the ground or the mouldy pies? Let me assure you there is far more mould on the ground than there is on the pies. Sorry to disappoint some but we are due to balance the books this year, selling Johnson will reduce our debt and we already have a replacement in Younis Kaboul who has kept Johnson out of his place. Also got a star player coming through the youth ranks. So please don't lose any sleep worrying about us.
