hamster Posted 13 May, 2009 Posted 13 May, 2009 Dog, what sort of engine / driving style would this stuff suit please? My nipper races a 318 BMW.
Dog Posted 14 May, 2009 Author Posted 14 May, 2009 It is the blood of the BMW 318 and any other super dooper sports/racing/rally car. It is the best oil on the market, and I said PM me.
Pancake Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Edge 5w40 is for VW Turbo Diesel engines, no? http://www.castrol.com/castrol/productdetailmin.do?categoryId=9014076&contentId=7027069
Al de Man Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Would have snapped your hand off if it was the 5W-30 version. VW charge £70 for 5l.

Al de Man Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 It is better than the 5W-30 oil Al. It's not so much a case of being "better". The figures refer to viscosity at start-up and when operating so an engine is designed to operate with a particular grade of oil. How well that oil lasts and how clean it keeps the engine are really what makes an oil better. I believe the stuff that VW brand and keep on the shelf for my car is made for them by Castrol anyway.

So your VW tourag requires better oil than a ferrari?
Pancake Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 (edited) So your VW tourag requires better oil than a ferrari? What? Why do you keep using the term "better", that is a totally non-quantifiable term here. Castrol themselves recommend the 10w60 for an F430 Coupe anyway... Edited 15 May, 2009 by Pancake

Dog Posted 15 May, 2009 Author Posted 15 May, 2009 Look I was just trying to offer someone some cheap oil and all I get is a load of grief. It will be poured down the drain at 5pm should I get no better offers. I will feel alot better when it's gone.
Al de Man Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 Look I was just trying to offer someone some cheap oil and all I get is a load of grief. And all I was saying is Castrol Edge 5W-40 is no "better" than Castrol Edge 5W-30.
Ponty Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 Not better, different. I've asked a couple of the guys at work but it's not what they use, that's not to say it isn't suitable they just prefer something that gets "thinner" more quickly.
Dog Posted 15 May, 2009 Author Posted 15 May, 2009 I think your guys use oil that is better than mine.
Ponty Posted 15 May, 2009 Posted 15 May, 2009 I think your guys use oil that is better than mine. I didn't mean in the R29...
