miserableoldgit Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Probably not - last few RWCs have been in October/November - the one we one in Aus was November 03 as I recall. Likely to be so they can play when they're earlyish in their season - couple of months in. Playing in June would conflict with the Lions tours and the Tri-Nations (Aus/NZ/SA) (I think), plus the injuries are more serious by the end of a rugby season, you would imagine. Just checked http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rugby_World_Cup#Tournaments Apart from the 1987 (NZ) and 1995 (SA) - all have been around late September - mid Novemberish - the 2011 (NZ) will be Sept/October. Hmm - that'll mean interspersing the games with Saints games (god willing we still exist then!). Presumably SMS would be hosting group stage games, unlikely 1/4 or semi finals would be there, that's what "Twickers" would be for. 2015???
St Steve Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Rugby in Southampton would be great, as we wont have a football club becoming a rugby city would be fantastic. I would love to have it on my doorstep, wont have to go up to Reading all the time.

I can remember when we used to have top class Football, Cricket, Speedway, and Ice Hockey in the City. If Saints go, it will all be gone and replaced with....??? SaintRichmond Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 St Mary's will host World Cup games in 2015 for Rugby Union, as long as England win the bid to host the tournament. THAT tells us that the Stadium will still be there in 2015 ........... ....... whether it is owned by Trojans RFC, we await to find out But the Rugby Authorities would not announce such a booking, if they did not know more than what we obviously do not

teamsaint Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 What a criminal act that was - getting rid of the Lido. This is the start of a "Look what they did to our city " thread. The Lido, properly run and kitted out for the 21st century would have been a major attraction. As would ice skating, speedway, a proper rock venue etc etc. Imagine the place without the saints.....................
