skintsaint Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 and its bugging me.. anyone know who is being chopped down by Rufus Brevett?
SNOWY Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 Alan Neilson. He was a right back we signed from Newcastle.
skintsaint Posted 12 May, 2009 Author Posted 12 May, 2009 ah yes, didnt we sign him for 100k or something?
The Farmer Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 ah yes, didnt we sign him for 100k or something? See picture number 35, image number 3651.jpg, in this gallery of Hughesy's recent testimonial: http://www.4es.co.uk/davidhughes/
Joneth Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 I remember him blocking a shot with his face once, don't think he ever did much else for us though.
Berkeley Saint Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 He's currently a PE teacher at a school in Milton Keynes....
westmidlandsaint Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 my first instinct was to say Alan Nielson but the more i look the more i am unsure, but cant come up with another name
chocco boxo Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 I used to think players like him were very average and were just make weights, now I realise that players like him were not average compared to the crap ones we have seen over the recent years. He would have looked outstanding amongst the crap we had in red and white last season.
Special K Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 When did he play for us? Under Souness, when he paired him with Doddsy in midfield i think.
Deano6 Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 I once one a table football game on the pitch when my seat number was picked out in the days when I had a Junior Saints season ticket. Alan Nielson and MLT presented it to me. Must still have the photo somewhere.
The Majestic Channon Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 He played when we beat manure 3-1 in 96 and set up shipperley's goal, was an ok player nothing more.
Big Ron fan Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 When did he play for us? Signed by Bally for half a million if I remember correctly. Was around for about 3 years, in and out of the side. A right back who was sometimes put into midfield.
Minty Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 I rated Nielson. He would die for the cause, as illustrated by his block vs Newcastle, and was a very strong tackler and a good reader of the game. He didn't have pace to burn or too much of an attacking presence, but he was very solid and massively underrated IMO. (Had a lovely, friendly, down-to-earth wife too, who I worked with for awhile.) Players like him, Scott Hiley, Simon Charlton... they really gave a sh!t and put in massive effort, but were rarely given the praise because the midfield was often so ineffective infront of them, and Le Tissier took all the glory. But one of the main reasons we stayed up so often in the past was because of their contributions. How I would love some players in their mould these days...
ladysaint Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 Defo Neilson not a fashionable player but did a job very well.
Saint2Hotty Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 Anyone have any links to any pic of rod wallace in his saints playing days? Got his autograph for my nipper at the Eastleigh testimonial and I wanted to get it framed for him with a pic but can't find a decent one! Thanks in advance

John Smith Posted 12 May, 2009 Posted 12 May, 2009 Anyone have any links to any pic of rod wallace in his saints playing days? Got his autograph for my nipper at the Eastleigh testimonial and I wanted to get it framed for him with a pic but can't find a decent one! Thanks in advance I may have a pick in an old program in the loft, along with a video of a goal he scored against Man U in 1989 or 1990. It was a goal scored 6 mins from time and secured our league 1 (premiership) status that year. Set up by Glen ****erill and tucked nicely in the bottom corner. I remember it well as it was in front of me in the Milton and the video has been played over and over as it was the loudest roar I ever heard at the Dell and was a magic moment. Quality!

david in sweden Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 and its bugging me.. anyone know who is being chopped down by Rufus Brevett? could well be Neilson, but ...it's at a time when we had SANDERSON as sponsor ..which seasons were those I wonder..might give a clue..
trousers Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Rufus Brevett? Is this a take-over thread? My first thought too...! Perhaps the post is a clue....?
Ash Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 When did he play for us? Well I got it even if nobody else did.
John Boy Saint Posted 14 May, 2009 Posted 14 May, 2009 Matty always spoke very highly of him, got the impression that Matty considered him a good reader of his own game so fed him the right balls, seemed disapointed that they did not play enough games together.
