brmbrm Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 This thread, indeed the whole forum, is merely a social experiment carried out by an unnamable research group and funded by the ESRC. Its a remote, automated, monitoring of herd instinct and panic diffusion in a crowd scenario, with the added plus of being eBased. I am writing heaps of papers on this: it will get me my Chair of Social Psychology. ****ing brilliant idea: a mass experiment almost for free! Go on, Nick, tease some more! Johnny Shearer Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Personally Johnny, i dont give a flying F**K who succeeds, as long as saints are still around next month and beyond!! Exactly - IF the club comes out ok at the end of this process then I would be happy. I'm not gonna get upset or riled if someone knows/doesn't know something on here. You'd have thought that people would have learnt a lesson by the 8795th time an ITK topic is spotted.

dubai_phil Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Interesting. So my taxi driver chappie (rated a double F in the rating system) says that over the weekend Fry gets worried he may have to send his 4 grand a pair ebay goalposts he has in his garden back to Wembley because he's taken one risk too many and may have screwed his career, then this afternoon he doesn't answer his phone when a bid is being made from ANOTHER group. Nick - sounds plausible, tell your source not to take any cr*p from Fry and push the deal through on their OWN terms. Time is short we want a club to whinge about next year

sambosa75 Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Without wanting in anyway to appear ITK, I was chatting with a client of mine last week who is very close friends with Graeme Souness (I found out as we were actually talking about Newcastle United and I said it's all gone wrong with them since they sacked Bobby Robson and replaced him with Souness). Anyway, when I found out I asked if he knew if there was any legs in rumours linking him with a takeover of Southampton. He said he didnt know about that but he is actually in the process of moving back to Hampshire. I'm aware he owns a wine company in Southampton as his business partner is my mates next door neighbour in Hiltingbury. Apparently he also owns a steel company down here as well which my client reckoned was behind the reason for moving down. DIdnt think of mentioning at the time but might tie in with this rumour if so.

mulletsaint Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 another not very bright or pleasant poster. I can sort of see both sides of things. derry Posted 12 May, 2009 Share Posted 12 May, 2009 cheers. Main update was that we hopefully will get some more positive news within 48 hours - and there are definately several still in the hunt - as read numerous posts today fearing the opposite. Genuinely sorry if it came across as anything more than my enthusiasm and wanting to share - I have no wish to build a reputation or ego on here -as none of you know me personally. Equally I do not see the need to get offensive, like a spoilt child, just because you don't get your way and get the full story. The trouble is Nick, what we are finding out the hard way, there is a million miles between serious bidder with proof of funds and ok here's the money. The first is easy, the second takes either so much money it doesn't matter or knees turning to jelly. Either way the only fact we have got is all these so called bids are running us out of time. NickG Posted 12 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 12 May, 2009 think another problem is what each party are calling bids, is it an offer and intent to proceed or is it detailed contracts etc. My understanding is; Ch Island pair made a bid - which was not detailed and formal etc and it didn't go further than that. Mr Xerox -made a bid Pinnacle - shown intent, not sure how far thats gone but understand its looked upon as having good chance Maple Leaf - made formal approach not sure how far one mentioned on this has made formal approach, again not sure how formal but hve shown intent and have been involved for a while. It is British businessman with serious overseas financial backers. My concern would be what the connection between them is? I am told Fry is keen to progress this quickly and maybe as soon as today select one to continue detailed talks alone with.

dubai_phil Posted 12 May, 2009 Share Posted 12 May, 2009 What is a bid? An Indicative offer in writing leads to a period of additional due dilligence. That is needed because an Administrator does not guarantee that the information they provide at the first stage of "due dilligence" is correct. A verbal offer would lead to talks about the details. It is all very well to say that you are offering a figure, but there could be a whole raft of issues as to how that bid is not only constructed but who and how it is paid out. For example a verbal offer could be made and then in the details it may transpire that, for example, a player had been sold or a new verbal contract offer not agreed. Neither of those are a bid for the club that can be turned into a contract, and the reporting standards on the Echo or the people leaking the info probably don't recognise that there can be different types of offers made at different times as a part of the whole process. It is not easy, my weekend host who specialises in this stuff reckoned we still had a way to go and said that most of the time potential buyers feel they are trying to hit a moving goalpost and the administrator can never believe that the buyers don't see everything as clearly as he does. Often such deals are achieved by those with the most patience and stamina and not necessarily the best bids.

Gordon Mockles Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 Just to add a bit of speculation to finish off my day (and for Clapham! - Purely supposition - but I believe there are a couple of bids on the table (I think mentioned on here one was supposedly made Friday) which are being considered but another, more serious bidder (with much more financial weight) may have come in at this late stage. I believe Fry may have delayed matters a day or so (hence the press reports, buying time) to await (potentially) the party with the strongest financial backing to return with a bid (although it may be playing dangerous games or have made Fry nervous for fear this late approach could fall through while the initial bidders retract or lose patience). I know nothing of any takeover (NDAs serve a good purpose!). It seems a delicate and serious game only for those with a strong stomach for business deals. Good luck to 'em. Let's just hope we all prosper as a result and we find out what is really happneing to our beloved football club ASAP.
