Fitzhugh Fella Posted 11 May, 2009 Posted 11 May, 2009 Not a fan of Samuel Beckett but as the days pass without any smoke coming out of the Vatican chimney (or Mark Fry's office), I am increasingly reminded of his (that's Beckett's not Fry's) most famous play "Waiting for Godot" where 2 tramps (or were they peasants) are waiting by a roadside for someone called Godot who never shows. The play is totally based on their conversations while waiting for someone they both admit while waiting they don't really know, but they hope will be able to deliver them from theirselves. Does Godot ever show? Of course not!

The alternative is not something that I have seriously considered, perhaps because I am in denial, but please give me hope not despair !!

I think Fry is fishing for more and thereby lies the danger. Do you pull your net in with one small fish in it or do you leave it out hoping a bigger fish swims in while accepting the possibility the small fish may swim out beforehand. Am sounding a bit Cantona-ish now so I will shut up

I agree but if he loses the 1 team who have actually put their money on the table he could look very foolish if they now walk.I wonder if they have the courage to give him an ultimatum saying 'tell us yes or no' by say tomorrow or we walk.They would be risking their costs of course but it may force his hand one way or other

Because he settled permanently in Paris at the beginning of WWII - so French became his first language. BTW, It's been Waiting for Godot at SFC for a very long time. But we've now reached the Endgame.

If the sum is ridiculously low (say 3.8 million as posted by RocketSwanee) then the component parts are worth more than the offer.The fact that he's waiting for more offers tends to indicate that the one he has isn't very receivable. What you have to remember is that some branches of SLH actually make a profit, how much I have no idea, if the football club losses could be controlled then the affair might be highly rentable.

Fry has to get the MAXIMUM he can, and his career and lifestyle (Bentley etc) is impacted on how he achieves that. BUT, when playing poker it is possible to push too far and too fast and have everyone else throw in the towel. Now IF that happened on his watch then the creditors would have a very different opinion and his career prospects would look very different. I wonder at what point he'll start to doubt whether he could have taken the alleged bird in the hand some weeks ago or if he scared it off in favour of the two that followed into the bush. I wonder how twitchy Aviva and Barclays are right now, let alone us.

The process has taken too long and the third week in may is the endgame. The last resort legends game that would have bought more time, has only sold 700 tickets because of apathy and the expectation of a white knight. Mike Osman told me it may well not now take place. This was really the only way to raise £0.5m quickly to keep us going for another month. It was all geared up for April 27th but Mark Fry vetoed it as he didn't want to send out the wrong message. Whatever that means. He had better get it right or the immediate collapse would be down to him.

A bit like the rock being pushed up the hill, only for it to always roll back before it reaches the top in Camus' 'Myth of Sisyphus'. It's a lot like supporting us, really.
