Fact,Fiction or mindless drivel ?

Some selective facts, a smattering of fiction and some dangerous drivel.

Talking of facts, here are the ONS stats, as reported in a nice, easily digested article by the BBC. Apart from the prdominantly Muslim states (Albania, Bosnia, Turkey and Macedonia to some extent) most countries have a very small Muslim population - less than 5% for most and under 3% for the UK. The only country which might think about getting hot under the collar about this might be France, based on these statistics.

Interesting that they equate 'culture' with 'religion'. Muslim societies are as diverse and complex as Christian societies. And in any case, who cares? (Well, Christians do, I'll grant you that). Seems to me that we would be just swapping one hegemony for another.

Also, despite what you may hear a lot to the contrary Christianity is still the world's biggest and fastest growing religion.

"Fastest growing" is one of the most meaningless and deceptive descriptions you'll hear. If I start a religion today with just me, then get 12 mates to join in tomorrow, I'll have a religion that has grown 1200% in just a day. That would probably make it the world's fastest growing religion at that time.

All of this business of course starts out from the assumption that Islam is bad. They made similar scare films about Jews in Nazi Germany and communists in McCarthy era USA. Be afraid people and learn to hate the strange people. They are the cause of all your problems.

To be honest, they could have used the Native American Indian, or the Aborigine model as an example of how an indiginous people's might be effectively neutred.

It's just another eligion in my opinion. Not that concerned to be honest, as long as they don't put me on a reservation with a load of Pompey fans.

  • 3 months later...

I know this is resurecting a thread from ages ago, but just to set the record (a bit) straight(er), the BBC's R4 programme More or Less looked at this video and started to debunk and pick apart some of the claims in the original video.

This is their rejoinder (just over 9 minutes):

and here is a link to the programme itself, where you can find much more information, if you so wish:

I take your point but surely, the way that "the man on the Clapham omnibus" thinks about Muslims is that they are, for example, the people who flew planes into the WTC in the name of their religion. He probably has not the faintest idea of what Islam is really about. I don`t particularly see much in the way of resistance to other religions (Sikhism, Judahism etc) and I feel that without the actions of the extreme Islamists, most peoples view of Muslims would be different.

I think there will be a couple more sensible post's first, then they will begin. Starting with a lets get all immigrants out post, then an equally stupid, they are the best thing since sliced bread post.

sh1t, too slow on the draw :???:

I'm sick of all the level-headed free-thinking scum on this forum, with your 'facts', your 'radio 4' and your debunking of this hate filled right-wing propaganda.

Where are the BNP massive? I want the air to crackle with hatred, fear and ignorance, and certainly not witness a bunch of guardian readers sucking each other's d1cks and rationally debating the issue before drawing a conclusion which satisfies all parties.

Who want's a pointless fight?

Level headed thinking chaps!

Xenophobia. Indoctrination through fear. That's how many religions and political groups work. Identify an 'enemy' that is easy to spot through physical characteristics, alienate this 'enemy', disenfranchise this 'enemy' and, when the 'enemy' complains and reacts, use force and tell others "See! that's just what we expected of these people, trying to undermine our society!"

Of course there are are also extremities in any religion. It's down to us to realise that there is a whole difference between the quiet, decent Muslim/Chinese/White family down the road and the ranting Talibs/Triads/BNP in other areas.

Domination has nothing to do with population or fertility rates....it is to do with power....predominently military power, but also economic (as you can't really have one without the other.... see USSR).

How is it the Romans, French, English and the like had so much influence over the world?

It had nothing to do with the fertility rate. They were economic and military power houses which enabled them to dominate and influence other nations with greater populations and fertility rates.

The biggest "threat" of this century will not be from the Muslims, it will be from the Chinese. As the fastest growing economic and military powerhouse, they are set to dominate in the next century as the US has done in the last

Simples.

Next question.
