kpturner Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 OK - although I am getting a bit bored with this thread, which players should have deferred their wages? Everyone who played for the first team? Everyone in the entire squad? Anyone who earned over £5000 a week? What about managers, coaches, peope who work in the ticket office? Somebody suggest where the line should be drawn and why. But the point is not that you need to ask, but that people who know they are well-rewarded and know that they are being financially supported by people earning a fraction of their incomes, ought to have 'consciences'. That is the whole point from my perspective. I bought a few tickets for a family to go to the last home game I've never met. Nickh spent hundreds to do likewise (and bloody good on him). Hundreds/thousands of us have shown that we're willing to give up a proportion of OUR salaries. If it were my business and I was well paid, I would be working out how I could help the business and the people keeping it afloat. But that's me. I'm middle-aged and come from a time before 'every man for himself and feck the rest'....

The fact that it is not publicised doesn't mean that it hasn't happened.........ok, maybe I am also finding that difficult to believe! But who knows? I am not sure what age consitutes "middle aged" but I am no spring chicken and I cannot remember the time before 'every man for himself and feck the rest' :-)

ooohTerryHurlock Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 ..... Interesting to hear that Jenson Button took a 50% paycut (£4 million), when it looked like the problems with Honda were going to leave him without a drive for this season. The paycut was his own idea and was voluntary.... I guess that could be the sort of example we are trying to find.
Jonnyboy Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 So, you would rather the business went bust and you had no job at all? Nice work. These footballers need to remember that they are not immune from the recession. Many have performed badly, their value has gone down. So yes, Euell can have 15k a week and bankrupt SFC. Then he'll be lucky to get 5k somewhere else... Conversely, some will get jobs more easily and probably at higher wages in which case they were going anyway and probably don't give a stuff. Either way, I'd like to know how well they sleep in their executive homes knowing that pensioners are chucking money in a bucket to keep them in Bollinger... And ultimately, that is a decision about whether you are a MAN and not about your employment status. hear hear

thesaint sfc Posted 12 May, 2009 Share Posted 12 May, 2009 I wouldn't take a pay cut from work if we were in troubled times, unless I couldn't get a job elsewhere.
