trousers Posted 8 May, 2009 Share Posted 8 May, 2009 expecting him to be at sms? No, not specifically. Just clutching at straws for once....If the above rumours about Maple Leaf Sports are true then it wouldn't be an unreasonable assumption. He's Dan Jones, Head of Deloitte's soccer consultancy division. Maple Leaf Sports were a client of his when they visited St Mary's this time last year. http://www.thestar.com/printArticle/417801
Forester Posted 8 May, 2009 Share Posted 8 May, 2009 I can assure all fans reading this that the majority of what has ben posted today is so wide of the mark. There are very good reasons for the delays, key players involved have not been named yet in the media and we need to remain patient. My information is that fans will not be disappointed. Forester Posted 8 May, 2009 Share Posted 8 May, 2009 Good evening Forester. Cheers for the above insight. Are these chaps you mentioned previously still 'in the hunt'? Thanks. Not keen to get into details - intention in posting was that reading this and other thread people are getting seriously hot under the collar and its really not needed (albeit I do understand). Things will come to a head next week

DaintyDave Posted 8 May, 2009 Share Posted 8 May, 2009 His name is Jim Basillie, founder of RIM (powers your Blackberry). Doubt it. He loves hockey and Southern Ontario. Has done work to get a CFL team there too to his native Hamilton. That is interesting. I wonder if its the super rich billionaire trying to buy an ice hockey team at the moment and headlining in Canada.

DaintyDave Posted 8 May, 2009 Share Posted 8 May, 2009 I know this, he is trying to move the Phoenix hockey team to Hamilton, where the Tigercats already play. He lives in Hamilton now though. And MLSE came over last year, looked at Newcastle, Sheff Weds, Derby and others and stated they only wanted a London club. We may be many things.....but.....if they went L1 they would go Charlton, not like money is an issue for them, and more likely they will buy Palace or a Prem side - hear West Ham is for sale on the cheap........ Sorry mate but unless you or your friends can promise unlimited wealth, a premiership return within two seasons and a top ten finish within three seasons then fans will be disappointed. I'm not saying I agree with any of this but it's the nature of the beast. To be fair though if you or your friends name isn't Rupert then that will help......unless your surname is Wilde. Saint in Paradise Posted 8 May, 2009 Share Posted 8 May, 2009 What concerns me most about all of this situation is the worry that the longer it goes on the more likely that the bidders will get cold feet and pull out altogether. Just look at the poor souls at Darlington. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/8037396.stm http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/teams/d/darlington/8039511.stm
OttawaSaint Posted 9 May, 2009 Share Posted 9 May, 2009 Well, if it is MLSE they've got pots of money, thanks (as Ottawa said) to owning the Toronto Maple Laughs who sell out every game but haven't won anything since 1967. In terms of fan affection, the Leafs are to Canadian hockey what Man United are to English football. Much as I'd like to see that kind of well-heeled ownership, I'm struggling with the whole notion that we would be related to the Leafs. What say you, Ottawa? As long as they have pots of cash and don't make us play in blue and white I don't mind too much. As an Ottawa Senators fan it'd be hard but if it means Saints survive and have money to spend then so be it...

CanadaSaint Posted 9 May, 2009 Share Posted 9 May, 2009 Yes, Tim, it's extremely unlikely because they have more than enough money to go for something much larger and better established. On the other side (the slim possibility side), they were interested enough to sniff (by visiting SMS) and they like to bring a development focus (hotel, condominium, restaurant and retail developments) near their sporting investments. There's also another of those "links, sort of" because the GM of Toronto FC is an old WGS acquaintance, Mo Johnston. If we hadn't dropped a division this year I would have given us more than the 10% chance (at best) I think we have now.
Singapore Saint Posted 9 May, 2009 Share Posted 9 May, 2009 Mark Dennis state on radio last night that while he was having a drink with Le Tiss he asked him how wealthy his people were, wealth or obscenely wealthy and according to Psycho Le Tiss replied Obscenely. While drinking, people tend to exaggerate as alcohol clouds the brain. On the other hand, in vino veritas.

SaintRobbie Posted 9 May, 2009 Share Posted 9 May, 2009 We wont be disappointed of that I am sure too, we are going to be taken over and are going to be in a position to mount a campaign for a play off place in League 1 next year. But every day we delay, without a manager and team ,we now minimise our chance of that success. We need a clear out and rapid rebuild at SMS with a high profile manager and we need it NOW. IMHO every day Fry delays now means that the value of the Club actually therefore falls. That might suit an investor but it doesnt suit Fry's bosses or us as fans who will be demanding success of our new manager next season. We need a decision and managerial appointment soon and I think it will come.

SaintRobbie Posted 9 May, 2009 Share Posted 9 May, 2009 glad its not me having to choose between them - must be hard who will be best long-term option Tricky when we can't compare the options... and frustrating. But we have no choice now, had we sold a year ago we could have scrutinised, now we are in Fry's hands.
Saint 76er Posted 9 May, 2009 Share Posted 9 May, 2009 Please, please let it be the Canadians, if only for having the lumberjack song as our new club anthem. Should be perfect for when the players come out! Northam chavs in check flannel shirts will be in their element, and end of season dress up... well to be true to the song something about 'dressed in women's clothing' I seem to recall...
