I'm starting to worry now. Another week has gone by and no formal announcement of any bids. Plenty of rumours on here of course but I take all of it with a pinch of salt.

I'm seriously beginning to wonder if anyone is going to buy us.

Cheer me up with some positive news someone..............

...........please :(

seems to be 3 running on this so my flawed logic says to solve that start another one!

My understanding is;

MJ has bid - it was first bid on the table.

others have added that he has lost his investor.

MLT bid is either just in or expected shortly - my understanding is this group is the favorite.

There are two overseas groups who have formally notified Fry of intention to bid.

One is canadian with no local connections.

I do not know how these fit in with groups spoken about by other posters such as Weston and Derry and the new posters.

Can I suggest this as single thread to summarise what is known and comment on all bidders?

That is interesting. I wonder if its the super rich billionaire trying to buy an ice hockey team at the moment and headlining in Canada.

The MLT bid is not in yet but s due to go in early next week. Source - Horses mouth this afternoon. He also confirmed Lowe is not involved with the other bid. He is also very confident that we will have a team to support next season.

Oh they'll let it drag on and on, no point in investing money now when there's another charity bash on the 17th to pay the wage bill for another month. If any of these candidates have serious money they didn't get it by being too quick to flash the cash. Nothing definitive for at least another 2 weeks IMO.

I think this is spot on sadly. Everyday I wake up hoping that today is 'the day' but I think it'll be a while yet

so bid 1: LLS..... rumours that now floundering due to wihdrawal of backer

bid 2: MLT/Pinnacle..... not actually submitted

bid 3: there is no bid 3.

Whilst it is not that worrying that the ITKers on here have not be shown to be right, it is worrying that South Today have not even given the slightest mention since the report on Weds that news is expected within 24hrs.

Will the frustration of following saints ever end?

He's certainly got tons of dough - he and a buddy invented the Blackberry and run Research In Motion, which manufactures them. However, he's a hockey man through and through, and he's got more than enough on his plate trying to buy and move the Phoenix Coyotes.

As Offside suggested, it's more likely to be Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment but I'd be surprised if they would start this low when they could afford to buy something a lot closer to - or in - the Prem.

I'm sceptical about this supposed potential Canadian buyer but you never know, especially as MLSE's head honchos have been to SMS.

/QUOTE]

Think they've been caught out like a few people, the word was that everything was done and dusted and an announcement was due to be made.

Not sure what happened to be honest, either the information was flawed or there were some last minute changes of plan ? Latest events have thrown everyone I think, not heard of the Canadian link but could possibly be something in it. Anyway we've a while yet before we hear anything official I think, keep biting those finger nails and taking the Prozac !

The most likely telecom would be Rogers, who also have radio, television and publishing interests, and own the (baseball) Toronto Blue Jays. In some ways they are a better bet than Jim Balsillie or MLSE but they are a public company with the vast majority of their activities within Canada, so this would be quite a departure for them. In addition, their founder and chief visionary passed away not too long ago and they are still adjusting to life without him.

Was there not talk last time of a Canadian Telecom co. wanting to buy us?

God knows, my head is baked now.

We seem to be linked with different buyers every day. This bid, that bid, no bid, about to bid, was gonna bid, late bid, I'm fecking sick of the word bid.

For christs sake, just buy us someone and put us out of our misery, your getting a steal.

Preferably not MJ though, and if it is can you just assure us that he will not have any involvement in the running of sfc.

Other than that, just bloody buy us will you!

I'll get my straight jacket!

Memory is a tad cloudy but I think one of the members/directors of Marc Jackson's original "Trican" consortium in 2007 was Canadian. Probably nothing to do with this recent Canada 'rumour'

In case you missed it. According to companies house Trican Sports and Leisure was disolved on the 5th of May 2009.

There is a Canadian billionaire living just north of Winchester who just sold one of his companies for £600mil. Lots of local connections, his kids go to school locally. He happens to be a Saints fan too by the way.

Do you have a name for him?

Put a note under his door and ask him if he is interested.

Hope it aint MLSE, they have shown time and time again with the Leafs that it is all about making money and nothing about winning.

No kidding. Although that would still be a step up from losing games and losing money. ;)

I wouldn't want the trolls on here harrassing him thanks, I do get some business from him.

Good thinking, Batman. If you feel comfortable you could PM me and I'll see if the name rings a bell (which could make him a telecom, I guess!).

Canadians are the group who mentioned earlier who own sports companies over there

Well, if it is MLSE they've got pots of money, thanks (as Ottawa said) to owning the Toronto Maple Laughs who sell out every game but haven't won anything since 1967. In terms of fan affection, the Leafs are to Canadian hockey what Man United are to English football.

Much as I'd like to see that kind of well-heeled ownership, I'm struggling with the whole notion that we would be related to the Leafs.

What say you, Ottawa?

ideal for them - underperforming!

I think we might have overdone it.

Unless someone turns up and says this was the plan all along. :)

Nick, they own two top flight franchises (the Leafs and the basketball Raptors) and they clearly have a developing affection for football. They also own Toronto FC in the growing Major League Soccer league; MLS seems to have a much more solid base than its previous iterations. Toronto sells out most games and has a very enthusiastic fan base (sometimes a little too enthusiastic).

Much to the horror of the old-fashioned purists, football has more youth registrations than hockey in Canada and more than baseball in the States. One of the keys is the relatively recent availability of university scholarships, which has caused parents to push their kids to soccer rather than away from it.

It makes sense for MLSE, especially if it fosters a two-way conveyor belt for talent.
