Window Cleaner Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 The big problem now is that as this process has taken so long, it is probably impossible to rescue the club if a buyer isn't forthcoming this week. Mike Osman felt on Saturday that there is so much apathy and the expectation that the club will be sold shortly that the legends match has only sold 700 tickets. It may be that it won't now take place. In the event of the club failing to find a buyer it was the only way of generating £0.5m quickly to buy time, now that option has disappeared. I think the legends match hasn't taken off because £20 is just to much to watch a band of fat forty somethings having a kick about.Surely some sort of serious match would have been better. It was the opportunity for 32000 'fans' to donate £20 each to buy time for the club. What happens in the 90mins is irrelevant. If there isn't a buyer I expect us to be wound up by the end of the month. I just hope the bidders are not all smoke and mirrors, fantasists who have assets but in the end don't have the cash. That is my big fear.

We used to get 32000 in the prem but I'm sure that there were a few neutrals in that number. I go to matches in France, quite a few but I'm not a supporter of any of the teams, I go to watch the football.I'v been to 9 games at St Etienne, 3 in Lyon and 2 in Grenoble this season, not a fan of any of them though. I used to watch PSG and RCf on alternate weeks when they played a the Parc des Princes, never a fan of either of them, I just went to watch Football. I even go to Rugby matches at Clermont, get cheap tickets from work, and I know nothing about Rugby.

As i've said before i do not consider paying players wages to be a worthy cause. £20 is far too much for what is a nothing game. I'd rather pay £15 and watch the southern masters 5 a side tournament (if we're in it ).

Whilst not going into what was the plc it can surely be ring-fenced and used to show that there is £5m off he bat in terms of the overall annual revenue? Given the choice of a season ticket and £20 for a fund raiser I know what I would rather contribute to (having already donated 2 tickets for the burnley community scheme, in buying merchandise, and contribution to SOS)

trousers Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 400K+ Less Skacel,Smith abnd some loanees. Still 400K though. So, the players have a choice then....? a) don't waive this month's pay and don't get it anyway because we can't pay it or b) waive this months pay so that the club doesn't default on it's financial commitments and thus stays afloat (for another month which may buy enough time) Either way, the players don't get their cash, do they? I can only think there must be some artificial legal barrier to raising 'protected' funds in this way. Madness either way.
Window Cleaner Posted 11 May, 2009 Share Posted 11 May, 2009 Either way, the players don't get their cash, do they? There would then be a queue of 40 odd solicitors lining up outside Mark Fry's office, not to mention, representatives of the non-playing staff. Leon would go among them distributing alms like good Queen Bess.

Madness either way. Sale of goods act probably has something against that sort of wheeze I think You could sell 15000 supporters a symbolic and distinguishable Saints Scarf at £320 which could be exchanged at a later date for a Season Ticket though. Don't know how many would punt £320 right now though. Credit card agencies probably wouldn't touch it and that's the nub of the problem..

Surely thats too high - i'm definately not saying you are wrong because i dont know myself, but it just seems absurdly high, so just wanted to make sure If so i'm not surprised we are where we are (financially i mean) COYR

CB Fry Posted 15 May, 2009 Share Posted 15 May, 2009 This is the main problem. I'd have gone to the game for a laugh, but it's really frustrating knowing you're donating money to pay the wages of some lazy talentless chavs. Yes it's about saving the club, but when there's so many worthless people draining money out of it, scraping together 10% of their weekly wages doesn't seem all that worthwhile. Correct. It's a shame so many people take this view as "you don't care about the club I supported as a boy through thick and thin where's the passion gone everyone is so spineless blah blah blah etc etc etc etc"

No more do I, but the consequences of not paying the players wages will make the 10 point deduction seem like a bonus. Remember Stan - you were the one who wanted to be in this situation.
