maxi_sopez Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 wow blast from the past, talking about chelsea felt it deserved a thread! so what was your favourite Ken Monkou moment ?
Born In The 80s Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 Iniesta's last minute winner. Never have i laughed so hard.
diggers Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 look him up on facebook, he's running a pancake cafe in Holland and will accept just about any friend request he gets!
Arizona Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 To have a Champions League final taken in injury time with a goal from their first shot of the game must have been heartbreaking for the Chelsea fans and players. Especially after John Terry's penalty miss in last years final and going on to lose the shootout.
Saint Martini Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 Btw, talking about Dutch defenders that played for Saints. Van Gobbel has returned to Holland and is becoming a coach at Feyenoord.
eesti matty Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 Btw, talking about Dutch defenders that played for Saints. Van Gobbel has returned to Holland and is becoming a coach at Feyenoord. Wasn't there a rumour that he was on the run?
hamster Posted 6 May, 2009 Posted 6 May, 2009 Wasn't there a rumour that he was on the run? He was. Fraud I think.

mynameisthehulk Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 wow blast from the past, talking about chelsea felt it deserved a thread! so what was your favourite Ken Monkou moment ? He had this tendancy to hoof the ball clear, putting his foot right through it, directly into the little wheelchair area at The Dell, cracked me up.
skintsaint Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 remember Monkou's towering header against Norwich..think we won 5-4?
The Tango Man Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 Just to have your club have the opportunity to have a Champions League Cup final place taken away at the last minute by the last kick of the game must be quite nice.
saintchris23 Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 Seeing him in the matchday programme in a black leather waistcoat, no shirt, saxophone in a sea of reeds. That image will haunt me forever. Graeme Le Saux eat your heart out!
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 He was. Fraud I think. Very similar to some of the current players drawing a wage here then.
Steel City Saint Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 Any time he touched the ball in the penalty area and didn't give away a penalty. Oh, and the headed goal that was disallowed (against West Ham?? by Uriah Rennie??)
Oz Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 Iniesta's last minute winner. Never have i laughed so hard. me too, rofl
rallyboy Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 saw Monkou play for Chelsea old boys last year, he was the best player on the park and could do a job for us now.. he is as fit as he was when he left. (in the pre-Milliennium meaning of the word!)
Give it to Ron Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 I was sat in front of him at Eastleigh a few years ago when he brought over a few players for a trial for Saints as he was their agent. Had a bit of a chat with him....ashamed to say it took me about 15 minutes to realise it was him. Nice guy.
OldNick Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 1:p:p:smt041:smt041:smt041:smt041:smt041:smt041:smt041:smt04:smt041Im 1 of the few who thought it was outrageous. We have had refs do the same to us and you understand why people lay one on them after robbing them of probably the last chance to get to the final I dont understand why Hiddink didnt bring on more subs to kill time
eelpie Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 I bet Ken is gutted he didn't get to shower with GLS Are we reading too much from your username?
Seany S Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 My favourite Ken moment - I was sat in the Milton and Monkou made an absolute howler of a mistake, I think he basically laid on the perfect pass for the opposition striker to score. There was an old bloke sat next to me, with his flask and a blanket over his knees, quiet as a mouse for the entire game up to this point. But something in this Monkou f***-up ignited the fire within him, and he went absolutely mental, swearing, shouting, it was awesome seeing this frail old man totally going snooker loopy. Will never forget that!!!
dellboypete Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 saw Monkou play for Chelsea old boys last year, he was the best player on the park and could do a job for us now.. he is as fit as he was when he left. (in the pre-Milliennium meaning of the word!) I met him shortly after he left us for Huddersfield (about 2000 I guess) - my son was at leeds Uni and did his criciate ligament in. He had it reconstructed at a specialist clinic in Keighley - what d'ya know, Kenny was there at the same time for a different knee op. That effectively finished his career, apart from falling out with steve bruce. For me he was a legend and a great guy - we could do with him right now.
david in sweden Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 Im 1 of the few who thought it was outrageous. We have had refs do the same to us and you understand why people lay one on them after robbing them of probably the last chance to get to the final I dont understand why Hiddink didnt bring on more subs to kill time .......and yet another reason for having the fourth official in front of the TV - the camera cannot lie! The game has really degenerated when the fans at home can see 6 replays of every incident on TV ..while the ref. has his own dubious eyesight to trust and frequently makes errors. Wait for it to happen again in the Final...Ferguson will throw a fit, get himself sent to the stands.. when it'll be the ref's fault anyway. The TV watching fans will see one game, whilst the ref. will have his own Hollywood script for the game. FIFA have it all wrong when they say that it reduces the responsibility of the ref. when what it does is diminish the respect that players and fans have for them. Chelsea had FIVE shouts for penalties in the match and a couple were certainly worth the effort . IMHO The red card was rather doubtful, especially as he wasn't the last man - and hardly touched the Chelsea player.
SFKA South Woodford Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 Iniesta's last minute winner. Never have i laughed so hard. Whilst I dislike Chelski immensly and like you was having a chuckle at Barca scoring, I do feel sorry for them for being cheated out of the final. I'm sure that ref has been in charge of one of Saints matches, judging from his display.
treggs23 Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 He will be our new manager...you heard it here first: http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?p=279227#post279227
warsash saint Posted 7 May, 2009 Posted 7 May, 2009 remember Monkou's towering header against Norwich..think we won 5-4? My favourite moment whilst following Saints around the country.
