Bakovnetski Posted 7 May, 2009 Share Posted 7 May, 2009 £12k per week in L1 just doesn't make financial sense Does he have a salary reduction clause if we got relegated (inserted by Lowe in std contracts) as has been mooted elsewhere on the forum? Alanh Posted 7 May, 2009 Share Posted 7 May, 2009 Massively hypothetical question given we won't be able to afford him, other clubs higher up the leagues will be interested and will be able to offer bigger wages, and I'd be surprised if he was interested in dropping down a division. Assuming the decision was with us and we had a choice on what to do with him I'd sell him. He might score goals in this division, but I think the money that we could get in from a fee and the savings that we make on wages should enable us to get in a couple of hungry players with a couple of successful years experience in L1 - ideally strikers or midfielders who have scored a few in the division already but fancy the idea of playing for a bigger club. Next season we are going to have to be scoring for fun from the very start and we won't be able to rely on one player to score the goals we will need, especially one who has been acccused (rightly or wrongly) of being lazy, immobile and slow for most of his time with us. Anyway if reports of the 'offers' are anywhere near correct he'd need to cut back to about 3K/week to be of any interest to us.Blokes like him with a year left on his contract at 12K (apparently) a week are just a turn off to any prospective buyer. So someone buys the club for a reasonable sum, there's no guarantee that we can offload him and in theory he'd be able to shaft us for 12K a week all next season as well,in League 1 if you please.Don't forget he signed fully under Wilde so probably doesn't have a relegation clause in his contract.
