More to the point, in Southampton and surrounding areas we have choices.

In Norwich, what do you do?

Watch football or **** your sister??

They are not mutually exclusive. It happens all the time in Poopey.

Bradford City have about 12/13k season ticket holders and Huddersfield have also done well recently on the back of v affordable season ticket deals.

Altho Derby County have a bad press with some Saints fans, you have to say their numerical support this season has been outstanding (av nearly 30k?) Have they done season ticket deals?

I say 'Good Luck' to Norwich, i'd love to see them joining Saints in getting promotion next season.

They are like Saints and Charlton, a medium sized club, who mixed it with and have given a bloody nose to the premierships big boys. So I have a respect for them for their achievements.

Jon Hare, the creator of the Sensible Soccer computer games is a Norwich supporter, and regularly attends their matches, after their game on Monday evening he texted me as he was leaving Carrow Road to say that they would be joining us in League 1 next season.

Very good post, just about sums it up for me. I've got a work colleague lives just south of Norwich at Holt and has been a long term season ticket holder. Says he probably won't bother next season as he misses several fixtures each season due to work and with a capacity of just over 26k he should be able to purchase match day tickets easy enough. I think you'll find that a lot of ours will do the same.

IMHO I think the single biggest factor in generating these numbers is the empathy between the Board/Owners and the fans. I get the impression their Board value their fans and their fans hold their Board in high regard.

It may even have something to do with being run in the past by someone as despised Lowe in Chase, in that they can see that this Board have shown by their words and deeds to really care for the Club.

Facts prove otherwise. When we had the greatest empathy factor at the club upon Wildes incoming, season tickets and gate revenues dropped. Norwich and Charlton fans just support their club to a greater degree than Saints. That's our standing with debt and points deductiotions added on top. They will end up where they rigtly belong because of their support, the exact same for us.

We shall see if we have some decent season ticket deals for next year. I agree with um though.

Saints suffer exceptionally because of the average distance supporters travel. That with the associated costs and the product has left it's mark. It's one thing travelling to watch ManU, another watching Saints in our predicament. Something David Luker has mentioned a long time ago. I expect an initial upsurge at the beginning, then a fall off below last seasons levels. Our decent gates were associated with low ticket prices apart from a couple of emotionals at the end. Because of our ongoing financial issues next season we will not be able to afford to drop our prices significantly, if we do we will suffer in the team.

Saints need to look at how Watford sell season tickets and replicate the scheme.

They offer a discount to season ticket holders living outside a 50 mile radius.

Saints always used to have a large st base outside a 50 mile radius and they'd be wise to try to encourage this market back.

Thats very travellist to me !!

The only guaranteed way of increasing the support is to win games at home and away playing attractive football unlike the utter dross I've watched for 2 seasons.

THey win at home and the fans will come back to watch, they play dross like we have seen they will stay away, simples.

if you ever go to a match at either Ipswich or Norwich there are as many coaches bringing in home fans as there are away coaches.

The reason why they have high season ticket sales is a) price and b) the fact that so many have traditional bussed in from outside the cities in transport organised by the club

I always thought Norwich was a lovely place.

However, the last time I went to Carrow Road, we bumped into 3 prostitutes touting for business not far from the ground

To bump into one can be considered lucky, two coincidence, but three is called looking!!!!

how on earth have Norwich managed to have 25k crowds, NOT had rupert lowe and STILL manged to be almost as bad as us. That takes some doing.

£13 a ticket at Carrow Road as opposed to £23 at SMS

Soton itself is a pain in the backside to get in and out of by car at any time and the railways are regularly dug up at the weekends as well. I have to park in Woolston and get a bus over and that's only possible because the gates have been much lower for much of the season.

Why doesn't the city encourage the set-up of a ferry network system? Having been to Sydney recently, the ones that operate out of Circular Quay are superb. Surely we could do that at Town Quay alongside Red Funnel and just think, it would be easier than having to travel to Hythe if you live on Waterside, Bitterne Park, Hamble would be covered, Swanwick, Fareham/Titchfield/Warsash etc. We could have a stop outside SMS and this could encourage investment in the whole area, not just the club. In the summer it would be an attractive way to get around the city and beats sitting in traffic.

A Norwich friend of mine reckons we also got promoted from Div 3 South at the same time as well. Agree with Docker P on price, the walk-up cost was disproportionate for the unfit garbage on display this season. Norwich's pricing is much more flexible as they are aware their local economy doesn't pay the best wages, rather like Southampton it is dependent on service sector and finance with little graduate work available outside of a shrinking public and Education sector.

Norwich's board, although they have made some howlers in appointing their managers 1) Do care about the fans and travel to London etc to meet the exile groups as well regularly and are happy to be accountable 2) Have put money in. Without Delia, no NCFC. Ditto Murray and his fellow Directors at Charlton. If you want to know the difference in how Saints fans related to a failed CEO (and "backers" like Askham and Richards who stuffed us all to make a fortune out of a pathetic investment) that no-one bar a few sycophants on this forum wanted back in the summer, you have your answer. Get new owners that care, that can sensibly and modestly invest and that can get the price structure right, and you'll see gates hold up.

Norwich is a nice place. It's a city mainly populated by local people which makes it seem a more together comunity.

I think you'll find most towns and cities other than London are populated by local people - and even the number of second-homers in London represent a minority.
