Third Division South Days Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Have already sold 18000 season tickets for next season, apparently a 1000 more than this time last year, the basic cost being £366. Hopefully a new regime will be able to generate similar interest from our supporters.
Griffo Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 We're a much bigger club so I'd hope we can do something similar.
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 We're a much bigger club so I'd hope we can do something similar. It will depend totally on the new team and generating support by stating their aims and winning us over. I, for one, want to see a ST available for £300 tomorrow. Sign me up!
Andy_Porter Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 £300 and we will sell 10k i'm almost sure of it. If it's a consortium with Le Tissier involved then we could get 14k or so at that price which would be a massive lift for next season.
Leslie Charteris Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 ...and Norwich's board are admitting "they made mistakes." Can't imagine that happening at SFC! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/8031967.stm
Griffo Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 10k would still be reasonably poor. As we can see Norwich have nearly sold double that!
OldNick Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Norwich and Charlton will do well next season, in fact I think Charlton will do best.We will start on -10
Legod Third Coming Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 they have better support than we do. More to the point, in Southampton and surrounding areas we have choices. In Norwich, what do you do? Watch football or **** your sister??
Andy_Porter Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 10k would still be reasonably poor. As we can see Norwich have nearly sold double that! 10k wouldn't be poor for a league one side, we need to realise how far we've fallen. Most clubs in the league are happy to get a 10k attendance, getting that many season tickets would be good.
NickG Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 More to the point, in Southampton and surrounding areas we have choices. In Norwich, what do you do? Watch football or **** your sister?? not true - they have fascinating guided tours http://www.visitnorfolk.co.uk/norfolk/things-to-do-norwich-daytime.aspx
chocco boxo Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Probably knowing the FA computer we will be away to Charlton And Norwich in the first month. The -10 is going to be a massive weight around our neck as we all know we start poorly, well this year at leat we kept the start up all through the season! Fair play to Norwich as their support has been very good of late. Come on Saints fans lets be having you!
Griffo Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Numbers wise their support is better, yes. Noise and away support it certainly isn't.
Mole Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Apart from tunrnip fields there's not a lot else going on in Norfolk.
NickG Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 this season averages Leeds 23k Leicester 20k Huddersfield 12k MK 10k Millwall 9k most about 5k - as average.
Griffo Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Norwich will keep selling out, Charlton will get around 20k I'd guess. I reckon we'll be at about 15-20k. But with our support I would have hoped to be getting above 20k every game.
SaintRichmond Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 We're a much bigger club so I'd hope we can do something similar. IMHO, THAT will depend on whether Lowe is back at St Mary's The Feel Lowe Factor, ie, with him Gates of circa 12000 ...... without him Gates of circa 20000, (with a half decent Team of course ) For those of you that do not agree, he cost us circa 5000 every Home game, and the knock on "mood of St Mary's" soon reached the Players
Dicko Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 I always thought Norwich was a lovely place. However, the last time I went to Carrow Road, we bumped into 3 prostitutes touting for business not far from the ground
Mole Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 I always thought Norwich was a lovely place. However, the last time I went to Carrow Road, we bumped into 3 prostitutes touting for business not far from the ground Norwich is a nice place. It's a city mainly populated by local people which makes it seem a more together comunity.
ottery st mary Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 I always thought Norwich was a lovely place. However, the last time I went to Carrow Road, we bumped into 3 prostitutes touting for business not far from the ground I remember now you saying you had never seen Saints playNorwich at Carrow Road. The main thing is you enjoyed your trip to Norwich in triplicate:D
um pahars Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 IMHO I think the single biggest factor in generating these numbers is the empathy between the Board/Owners and the fans. I get the impression their Board value their fans and their fans hold their Board in high regard. It may even have something to do with being run in the past by someone as despised Lowe in Chase, in that they can see that this Board have shown by their words and deeds to really care for the Club.
Mole Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Maybe we could do with someone like Delia on our board. Fiona Phillips ****ed up the pitch shouting "lets be avin you" would be funny.
Dicko Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 I remember now you saying you had never seen Saints playNorwich at Carrow Road. The main thing is you enjoyed your trip to Norwich in triplicate:D I haven't I was on a works trip with a Fulham fan Good memory though
ottery st mary Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 I haven't I was on a works trip with a Fulham fan Good memory though  Norwich Old Bill say ..the Fulham fans are the worst for that type of non football activity followed by Saints....Led by someone called big Diicko**** Old saying... Jig a Jig Jonnnnie...Short time or Ten Bob all night in...Don't forget to wash behind your ears after mucker. Good luck to the Canaries. COYRs:heart:

Can't imagine that happening at SFC! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/8031967.stm Including this: 'Club chairman Roger Munby [said] "The raw material that Bryan Gunn picked up couldn't make it in the end, for whatever reason, and I'm not technically skilled in football matters to be able to tell you why." ' A chairman not technically skilled in football matters who REALISES it and ADMITS it? Wish we had had one of them.

SNOWY Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Have already sold 18000 season tickets for next season, apparently a 1000 more than this time last year, the basic cost being £366. Hopefully a new regime will be able to generate similar interest from our supporters. £366 may be a too expensive. That works out at approx £16 per match which means that match day tickets will have to be around £19/£20 each. If we charge £299 (£13 per game) match day prices could be set at £15/£16. 18 000 is a fantastic number to sell. I think 10 000 will be a realistic target. The match day prices have to be right for us to have a hope of selling 20k per match
Mole Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Saints need to look at how Watford sell season tickets and replicate the scheme. They offer a discount to season ticket holders living outside a 50 mile radius. Saints always used to have a large st base outside a 50 mile radius and they'd be wise to try to encourage this market back.
EastleighSoulBoy Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 With reference to Norwich: We're a much bigger club so I'd hope we can do something similar. In your dreams mate. 10k would still be reasonably poor. As we can see Norwich have nearly sold double that! Coffee aroma? they have better support than we do. Possibly so?
SaintRichmond Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 A lot depends on the MLT factor. A Glimmer Of Hope If MLT is involved in the new set up ...... it means Lowe won't be If Woggy comes back ........ it means Lowe won't be ( Prayers are called for, looks like I may have to attend church again ..... )
sadoldgit Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Norwich and Charlton will do well next season, in fact I think Charlton will do best.We will start on -10 Which given our fair weather supporters means we will be stuffed from the start.
hypochondriac Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 With reference to Norwich: In your dreams mate. Coffee aroma? Possibly so? They have a decent pricing structure, directors who care and who empathise and are doing their best for the club. OK they have made mistakes but they have owned up to them and want to put things right. We have none of these things and as someone else has pointed out, a lot of choice with regards other things to do on a Saturday. Having said that, if we get a lot of these things next season then we should get a half decent season ticket base. Remember that Norwich have built theirs up like this over a number of seasons. We will be starting from scratch.
um pahars Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Which given our fair weather supporters means we will be stuffed from the start. I don't normally go in for who is the better fan than who and whether you need to be a season ticket holder to have an opinion, but I do find your protestations about fairweather support from the confines of your armchair somewhat galling.
sadoldgit Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Fair play to him. I hope our new board treat us with the same respect. No more spin. No more retoric. How many CHairman are "techincally skilled in football matters"? Their job is to run the club and they need a different skill set. Something we seem to frown on at SFC for some reason? Respect works both ways. I imagine if I had been treated like all the head honchos we have had over the last few years I would develop a seige mentality too. Perhaps this is the real difference? That the people at Norwich don't think they have a God given right to play their football in the Premiership whereas our supports do? Perhaps that makes a difference to how they all approach their circumstances? Interesting to see how their support is still there whereas ours left in droves. Can't use Lowe being here as an excuse now either. We shall see just how much of a "big club" we really are next season.
St Landrew Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 ...and Norwich's board are admitting "they made mistakes." Can't imagine that happening at SFC! http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/n/norwich/8031967.stm I think that's the crux of it. Not that I've ever bothered to watch another club closely, but I'm pretty sure the fans of Norwich City have never been fed years of bullsh!t like Saints supporters have. They've also never had a figurehead who divided the fanbase, and actually depressed the attendance figures. At SFC, that has been the case for 4-5 seasons, and some fans have gone away to do something else with their lives. It'll take a long time for those people to come back - and Saints need them. What we don't need is more bullsh!t. Well done Norwich City.
Mole Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Interesting to see how their support is still there whereas ours left in droves. Can't use Lowe being here as an excuse now either. Says he who doesn't go to games.
sadoldgit Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 Says he who doesn't go to games. In which case my lack of going to games does not matter does it? I have never made a call on not to go because I do not like someone at the club. I have never made a call to give my money to the oppostion because I boycotted St Marys. I stopped going to see live matches regularly when I was 17 because I was playing football myself. Since then I have continued to go to a handful of games a season and that will continue no matter who our CEO is and what division we are in. The club will not get rich on my financial contribution, but I have been behind them 100%since 1966.

We shall see just how much of a "big club" we really are next season. You can't turn football support on like a switch. Just as it took time for Saints support to dwindle down, it'll take a long time for them to return. Which means that YES, we can still look to the Lowe factor, and say that it helped to reduce support. I notice that attendances were up immediately after he left, in any case, and by quite a few thousand. Now you can point to the novelty value of him not being around, or some other cause, like it being the end of the season, if you like. But I'd bet Lowe, not being part of the Board, was a contributing factor in the recovering attendance figures.
Denzil Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 The majority of our fans are complete goons who won't come back unless we are back in The Premier League.
sadoldgit Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 You're the bestest. Nope that I ain't...but I am consistant!!!

The worry is that those fans will drift away again as they wont pay for L1 football etc.

The worry is that those fans will drift away again as they wont pay for L1 football etc. I'd be interested in seeing a demographic of the potential fanbase of SFC. IMO, it must be huge. There are obviously many factors that would dent that potential, League One football being a biggun; and the population is rather spread out over the central southern area, so distance also becomes a major factor, for the less committed fan. In the Premiership days, St Mary's was able to be filled practically every home match, and often tickets were as hard to come by as in the 15,251 Dell days, for the supporter who could/would only occasionally attend. Those supporters are out there still. They are just doing something else with their Saturdays.

I have up to a 2 hour journey from Sussex for a home game is like an away fixture everytime I make the trip and there's others who travel further than that.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 4 May, 2009 Posted 4 May, 2009 We're a much bigger club so I'd hope we can do something similar. Not looking at those numbers we're not.

They are like Saints and Charlton, a medium sized club, who mixed it with and have given a bloody nose to the premierships big boys. So I have a respect for them for their achievements. Jon Hare, the creator of the Sensible Soccer computer games is a Norwich supporter, and regularly attends their matches, after their game on Monday evening he texted me as he was leaving Carrow Road to say that they would be joining us in League 1 next season.
