Sadly gone are the days of "hes not good enough to play for saints", we are a league 1 side -10 points so not really an attractive proposition for players or a manager, we need solid hard working players who will sweat blood for the cause, not even 11 MLT's would get us out of this division. JW was never the most talented player to wear a Saints shirt but he did try even if his best wasn't good enough then, it could be now in this division

I agree to a certain extent but he was no spring chicken when he was released and we're a further year down the line. What we need and have been lacking in recent seasons is speed and athleticism. JW would make our already slow midfield even slower.

Totally agree, for this level the standout attributes are muscle, stamina and/or pace. For Centre-Backs, height is a must and pace a bonus.

Morrison is avery good striker at Stevenage but again more than good enough for Div 1.

Matt Gill at Exeter may well be on his way to Wycombe for Free...end of contract a very good player.

Gill has joined Norwich which is where he is originally from. Exeter are looking done already next year having lost Moxey as well. Tisdale would really fancy this job I suspect.

I'd like to see us pick Danny Graham on a free. Proven at this level but needs good management. Better athlete than McGoldrick though.

Without checking too much our old friend Jermaine Wright is available after being released, sits back and awaits the insults!!!

never wanted hin to leave. Thought he did a very decent job at right back (Colchester away apart). I guess we were unlucky with Thomas' injury but going into the season with only a centre midfielder to play at right back (without any cover in front of him) was a massive gamble which for a large part of the season did not pay off.

If James stays I don't think there is room for Jemaine back though.

I wouldn't really want Jermaine back. His head's screwed on the right way, but he is scarcely an improvement on Wotton in the tallent department. Also he turns 34 in October and I don't think he would be able to get much slower without breaking the laws of time.

Pity about Gill who is a very good mid field player...Started in Norwich Youth teams aged 10 but somehow ended up at Notts county then Exeter...But as you say he is pleased to be signing for his and his wife home town team. He was being chased by Peter Taylor at Wycombe.

I think Moxey has gone to Derby...Exeter are in serious trouble of losing all their best players.....money like Saints....They still have a very good reserve lad called Bennet and Sercombe and Matt Taylor..

Let us hope Saints do not get left too far behind with any experienced players up for grabs.

Morrison Striker at Stevenage.

Saunders Winger at Dagenham

Strevens Striker at Dagenham

Gill Mid field Exeter

Moxey Winger Left Midfield or Left Back at Exeter

Woodards or Jones Full Backs at Crewe.

Just a small shopping list of possibles on free or small change.....Just the job for Saints.

Looking like the following moves are on the cards

Saunders to Brenford.

Strevens to Exeter or Brentford

Gill has gone to Norwich

Moxey has gone to Derby...almost

Woodards has gone to MK Dons

Billy Jones is looking like next Exeter buy....Good left back/left side who used to play at Exeter.

Alex Inglethorpe is looking possible Manager for Watford..although they are also interested in Paul Tisdale.......Saints...Well we will see some of these players at St Marys this season.

Wright is actually a very good passer of the ball and one of the few Saints players in recent years who could take a corner. It is not possible to be slower or less skillful than Wotton.

He was a solid passer, but nothing to exciting. The problem would be that a suitable midfield partner would have to be a creative man mountain, and we don't have too many players who are either, let alone both.

I had the same gripe to an extent with Safri.

if you had to rank the three it would have to be Safri first, Wright second and Wotton 4th.

I would encourage BWP to move to Plymouth and take Jamie Mackie off their hands any day....Mackie is a very good hard working striker with good attitude, who plays for the team and would be very good for Saints.

Mind you Plymouth can have BWP for nil transfer but mega wages...can they afford it.

after the dissaster last season with Mpenza I don't think they will be paying over the odds for anyone.

Probably already been said, but Anthony Stokes from Sunderland. Can play on the right wing or up front, so versatile. Very pacy, good on the ball, definately CDAJFU in L1. Reported interest from Hibernian, but I reckon we'd be a bigger draw than them.

Saints lost some good player aquisitions lately...but that is down to our predicament..

Strevens, Saunders and Foster from Dagenham have all ended up at Brentford under an up and coming Manager in Scott..Interesting to see how they go this season.

Will we be in the market this year or too late and have to go with what we have and any favour loans when MLT and team get into gear...Sercombe, Frear and Bennett at Exeter worth watching out for this season.

Grant Holt.

Impressive work ethic and although not young and currently League 2, he might be able to work hard for David McG to mop up a few more than he did last season.

I hear that he has a lot of respect for us, and even as 'back up' may be considered a good acquisition.

Edit:

Linked to Colchester as they have just been knocked back. Shrews board want to sell him as they missed out on their 'bonus' last season (failed play-offs) apparently.

As would any one of 40 clubs in the two divisions above us...

I can't beleive some of the naff transfers you guys are considering. Jermaine Wright !!!!! you must be kidding me, one of the worst players to wear the red and white.

Some of the toilet we have brought in is unbeleivable the last few years and owes more to poor scouting than anything else. Teams like Burnley and Preston have been buying bargains and building good squads under our noses. Just because we are in div 1 doesn't mean we can't still be attrative to players, especially if this takeover happens.

The following players are on free's and are much better than any of the filth you lot have suggested

Sam Sodje - solid centre half who takes no prisoners. Spent last quarter of the season on loan at Leeds

Michael Duberry - experienced centre half with loads of experience

Carl Hoefkins - experienced Belgium centre half

James Scowcroft - Rugged centre half who would toughen up our team and bring physicality. It would allow us to hold up play and bring in the flair players like Lallana and McGoldrick. Was gonna sign on loan but we had no cash at the time.

Thoughts ??

Not bargains when they want between 5-10 grand a week at least....The bargains right wage level is in the lower league/ Conference area or some of our own youngsters in the right mix with experience....Good investor might give us chance at one or two old heads on higher wages....Hopefully we find out tomorrow/tonight what contacts/favours Mat/KK/Shearer can bring into the playing staff.

I hear there is a Dutch revolution total football dream out there waiting to explode onto the football scene:rolleyes:

You're on the right track. We need Kelvin in goal and some experienced big players at CB and Striker (the likes of Sodje, Duberry, Scowcroft, Howard etc) plus some good young, pacey, keen talent from the lower leagues. Wolves and Cardiff have done well with that strategy -one got back to the premiership and the other came close.

Not sure if it has been said, but Dean Bowditch is available?

Decent and still youngish, always seemed to have a decent attitude just been unlucky with injury, scored goals at championship level could help bang in a few in League 1 i reckon
