remember one of top managers saying (maybe Mourinhio??) that for prem/euro still don't need much more than 3 keepers and 2 for every other position - makes that squad look big! Would prefer two recongised, first team ability (even if some of them are youngsters breaking through) for each position, and know our best 11.

Darryl Duffy - Bristol City

Jo Kuffour - Bristol City

Simon Cox - Swindon Town - though reported interest from Leicester and Celtic!

Joel Porter - Hartlepool Utd - Australian who is currently out of contract but one of the top scorers in league 1 last season. Reportedly may be signing for a Japanese team, though Hartlepool trying to convince hime to sign a new contract.

Paul Tisdale still looks to be a possible for Saints..Appears to have dropped out of the running for Reading..He was in shortlist of five with Darren Ferguson, Eamon Dolan, Brendan Rogers and Roberto Martinez.

Martinez to Wigan or Celtic? Leaving Rogers for Reading job.

Tisdale would be very good for Saints if it were possible under new owners/MLT.

Dean Moxey Left Sided player who would have been very good for Saints looks almost certain to be going to Derby for 300 or £350,000.

Regarding the current squad and academy lists - can anyone give me a bit of a breakdown as to the quality/attributes of the twenty or so lads in the first and second year of the academy? Have not been paying much attention and am very interested to hear what some of you guys think about our future.

Matt Gill, Matt Taylor and Dean Moxey together with Paul Tisdale would be very good for Saints. Small transfer fees for Moxey and Taylor...Gill on a free and small fee for Tisdale....Can we afford these very good players.

Going back to Oz, or so Stelling kept saying all season on Soccer Saturday.

Mark Yeates has impressed me greatly whenever I have seen him. Great free kick taker. Same division means it might be a problem btu if we look like we are going to chase promotion then maybe he will see the potential.

Always thought we should have got Yeates from Spurs when we showed interest.

Ben Strevens at Dagenham is an experienced striker aged 29 but likely to go to one of several clubs now interested..If Tisdale stays at Exeter, then Strevens will go to The Grecians and score goals against us..

Mourinho's "first team squad" is no different from ours in terms of size, he just made a bigger deal about who was in it. Our "first team squad" from last season barely contained 20 players who'd have been in contention at any given time, we just had a lot of young players with a handful of appearances each.

For reference, here's Chelsea's reserve team from March 2005 for a match against Spurs reserves :

Chelsea:

Lenny Pidgeley; Dean Smith, Steven Watt, Nuno Morais, Sam Tillen; Anthony Grant, Danny Hollands (capt); Filipe Morais (Philip Younghusband 80), Filipe Oliveira, Joe Tillen (James Simmonds 90); Danny Woodards.

Now either Mourinho's 23 didn't include any reserves and they were additional to his "I only need 23", or those players are part of his first team squad...

It does raise the question of why you'd want to have a reserve team of whom maybe one or two has ever got near the first team, but that's another issue, and it's not like they'd be struggling to pay them.

That's in your less than humble opinion I take it?

I saw him a fair bit at Watford, unless he really has improved beyond belief, he won't be good enough for us imo. Actually one of the worst footballers I've ever seen.

Probably get shot down for this (for them being too old) but I reckon Lee Trundle (surplus at Bristol City) would be a decent experienced buy for us. Has an excellent goalscoring record at this level. What about Gary Monk too - a bit of extra steel in defence (possibliity if Martinez moves on).

Would agree with Trundle but there's no chance we'd be able to sign Monk.

If he did ask for a transfer, I'd imagine that there would be a few Championship sides in for him.

Yes he has at this level anyway Buzzin seen a lot of him at Stockport, in a footballing team he was a good solid defensive player much loved by the county Fans. Would do an excellent job for us in this league. whether he could take it on to the next level there is always that question mark? But at Division 1 level he more than holds his own. And going for free wouldn't be a bad punt.

Morrison Striker at Stevenage.

Saunders Winger at Dagenham

Strevens Striker at Dagenham

Gill Mid field Exeter

Moxey Winger Left Midfield or Left Back at Exeter

Woodards or Jones Full Backs at Crewe.

Just a small shopping list of possibles on free or small change.....Just the job for Saints.

can you offer any more information about these players? Are they free/cheap because their current clubs don't want them or are you talking about compared to fees for well known players?

Is that just for the name Torres on the back of a shirt,or is he any good ?

Saw him a few times at Basingstoke, looked pretty good there. Moved on to Wycombe and has done well there too. Don't see why he couldn't make the next step up tbh.

Shane Cansdell-Sherriff from Shrewsbury CDAJFU as well. Very versatile, can play at CB, LB or LM and would be available for pennies. Good shout imo.

All very good players and certainly good enough for Saints and definitely Div 1 standard without a doubt....

Woodards has now signed for MK Dons. Strevens is a striker who will always score goals and is wanted by Exeter, Brentford and Swindon....Free

End of contract as with Saunders who is also at Dagenham and a very good winger who is wanted by several clubs.

Jones is still at Crewe and was very good when at Exeter. Left Full Back with very good experience way above Molyneaux. Believed to be at end of contract..

Dean Moxey is off to Derby....

Although Tisdale knows what he is doing at this level of aquiring players...Could he still come to Saints...I wish ...Maybe MLT has matters in hand.

Someone mentioned LE Fondre? at Rochdale...Well I have been told he is very very good and a goal scorer..Not seen him myself.

I also rate Fleetwood who was on loan at Exeter but back at Charlton waiting for takeover but may have to be bought for small fee. ie two years left on his contract...May end up back at Exeter.

Just my opinion of some lower league players who will be good for Saints and not at over the top wages. Other teams appear to be more on the ball due to our turmoil we get left at the starting gate.

Morrison is avery good striker at Stevenage but again more than good enough for Div 1.

Matt Gill at Exeter may well be on his way to Wycombe for Free...end of contract a very good player.

Morison is signing for Millwall I think.

Jimmy Ryan (accrington stanley midfielder)

Luke O’Brien (bradford left back)

Simon King (Gillingham defender)

Ryan Bennett (Grimsby defender)

Stephen Dawson (Bury midfielder)

Saw O'Brien play for Bradford v Exeter near end of season. Quite useful/mobile

but not sure if any better than Mills. Rehman played centre back and again ok but not as good as SIZE OR PERRY...YOUNGER AND FITTER....But will Lancashire come through....Interesting next 3/4 weeks to see where we go into the market level.
