Pele no, Hoefkens maybe but i'm happy with James at RB, Hodgkiss I know nothing about.

Hodgkiss is an attacking right back, I guess in the mould of James but with a more defensive upbringing. Could be an option if James is moved to right mid as suggested by many on here.

Paul Tisdale of Exeter is still touted as a possible for Reading Manager...Eamon Dolan ex Exeter is already at Reading and a possible....So Saints looking doubtful as I see Tisdale going with Dolan as Director of Football/ although Hammond in place at present.

Dean Moxey of Exeter is a very good left sided player and is now lined up for Derby who have offered 200 but believed Exeter want 350 or £400,000. Matt Gill a very good mid fielder is free and stalling on contract...Just what Saints could do with very experienced mobile tenacious player... Players to watch at Exeter are Bennett, Frear and Tasker...But as we all know we are not in a position and Exeter are now a BIG club like The mighty Saints.

why on earth would you not want Pele? He's better at CB than Perry and better at CM than any of the other players we have at the club.

Why no to Pele?

He was a class act as a holding midfielder. A dodgy centre half, so naturally Burley played him there as often as possible, but an excellent midfielder. An excellent ball winner, a reliable passer, very hard to knock off the ball. Some of our best results and strings of results came with Pele in midfield. The 4 wins on the bounce, the 4-2 win at Hull, Leicester at home and the playoff second leg spring to mind.

I think a midfield of James - Pele - Gillett - Surman could potentially do alright in L1 next year.

what about Yoann Folly, out of favour at Plymouth.

I know he didn't set the world alight in his first spell here, but he was only 19 and playing in the premiership, now I think he would be quality.

noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, absolute ****ing ****e. How on earth can you play a defensive midfield role if you don't tackle, ever. Garbage. Never understood what Luggy saw in him and he has done sweet **** all at Sheff Wed and Plymouth. I'd much rather play Schneiderlin if we are going for non tackler

I see on OS that Euell and BWP has been offered new deals - how can we make offers to players when mr. Fry is running the club ?

More to the point, why are we hanging on to so much of the garbage that got us relegated without a fight? As far as I can see, Rasiak, Saga and Skacel are the only first teamers Wotte is planning on leaving.

I don't think it means that they have actually been given a contract to sign just that there is a verbal agreement for them to sign a contract with a certain wage if we get taken over.

the real facts are we need some tough, no nonsense midfielders and a back line which is like the Berlin Wall....and a couple of front men who can shake off defenders and take on a goalie one on one ..and score.

Forget the pretty football ..we have to get out of League 1 ASAP.

Not sure which side of the fence you're on there, but that sounds a lot like Pele to me.

Him, Gillett, Thomas, Size and Perry don't take any prisoners. We'd do well to sign/hang on to them.

what a load of old ********. The best footballing sides get promoted. Yes you have to have good strong defenders and bite in midfield, but this idea that lumping it long all day long to a huge lump of astriker is how you get promoted from the lower leagues is rubbish. Check out the top five or six of League 1 and you will find the best footballing sides at the top not the bottom. Peterborough have played teams off the park over the last two seasons and have been promoted twice in a row, the same applies at all levels.

Passing football is the way forward so long as you throw in some pace and power as well. They key is quality footballers. If you have quality players you can play a passing game and win. However if the squad does not have that ability then you have to start looking at alternatives to make best use of your squad.

If we have players like Schneiderlin, Lallana, Surman and McGoldrick (all high technique low strength players) in the squad next season then the only way we are going to do anything is to get the ball down and play. If we have BWP then we can play the ball down the channels. If Wotton is going to be playing then a passing game through the middle is completely pointless as he does not posess the quality required.

As for Pele, he offers the quality on the ball as well as the strength and bite required. He won't be coming to us thats for sure, he's way out of our league sadly.

He was great for them (apart from that pk miss). Why on earth would they sell him, unless he's asked for a transfer out of L1, in which case he won't even entertain the idea of moving to SFC.

If your on about beckford he has continually rejected contract extensions and Leeds are now looking at making some money on him....... i believe

Exactly. He want's to play at a higher level and let's be frank, Leeds have got more chance of being promoted next season than we do.

Jermaine Beckford transfer listed at Leeds for turning down a new contract.

If we get an owner with money can I be the first to say HCDAJFU....also considering we were in for him just before he went to Leeds.

Erm... Read the last 6 or so posts. ;)

Oh joy of unimaginable joys

I'm not overly pleased to be keeping either of them. BWP is in his mid 20s and still hasn't figured out the offside rule yet. Euell is a bit of a carthorse and for all the praise of his experience and attitude last season, he lumbered round the pitch and managed 2 goals, both at Portman Road.

Oh and Jermaine Beckford has just been transfer listed by Leeds!! Nobody has mentioned him yet!!! HCDAJFU!!!

We had more chance for Beckford when he was knocking in goals for Wealdstone before he was snapped up by Leeds....As usual Saints no where.

Im pretty sure I read in the echo that we were in the running to sign him but he chose to go to leeds instead

Sam Sodje has been released by Reading. HCDAJFU and has shown that he's a decent player in League One.

David Connolly, Dwight Yorke and Darren Ward are three of seven players released by Sunderland too. All of them CDAJFU.

Given the current situation, I can't quite understand the point of this thread (having clicked on it by mistake). If we ever get confirmation that SFC will survive as a going concern then bring it all on - until then.......

It's a distraction from the absolute nothingness going on re. administration/buyout.

I always thought that Ryan Smith looked quite good for us. He gave us a bit of width when he played, which is something we lacked at times. He just lacked the end product, and at times seemed a bit scared to run at his man. Those were things that could easily have been trained though, and he CDAJFU in L1 imo. Sign him up again!

Yes just saw that

Surely Davis will not stay one of the Championship's better goalkeepers

Sorry to be controversial but Kelvin Davies is over hyped. Our defence is week and goalkeepers are a large slice of this equation. Not as good as his press would suggest I'm afraid.

HCDAJFU...If not already mentioned....The owner of H+M Mr Persson has just bought Linkenholt for 25 Mil...Previously owned by Blagrave, now deceased...Who was a Saints Director? Or Mr Persson son Karl Johan...Now this is real serious money in this Swedish family....Article in Express today....If already reported apologies....

But then again we have our own Rich buyer already.

Mixu Paatelainen - former Hibs manager who resigned this week after trouble with the board.

HCDAJFU.

Either him or Derek McInnes, manager of my second team (St. Johnstone) who took the club back up to the SPL this season with an aging team and little money. Would be available for reasonably small compensation too as St Johnstone aren't a very big club.

As the future begins to look more secure, some good available (or potentially available) players could be;

- Sodje and/or Bennett, Bennett did improve after a shocking start for us and both free and wages probably not that bad. Plus, unless Size signs on we've only got Perry at CB (I don't count Lancashire)

- I really hope Mills stays as he was one of last seasons few plus points but may want to play for Nigel Adkins in the CCC for Scunny. If he doesn't return, Dan Harding on a free?

- Would love to see Prutts back to add bite to CM and fire up the crowd (but hopefully not the ref)

- Jackson from Gillingham is worth a look and their left-winger (Andy Barcham?) has had rave reviews and looked seriously quick in their play-off final

- Webber released from Sheff Utd. Wages probably an issue but could be returned to form with the right help

- Danny Graham has rejected a new deal at Carlisle. Proven in L1 although had a dry spell second half of last season. Even so, on a free he'd be top of my list.
