Chez Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 Let me state that I have suported McGoldrick on here all season in the face of non stop abuse (of him not me), but despite him having talent, a great first touch and a good footblling brain, McGoldrick is lazy, not as lazy at Stern John, but still lazy. He is not a midfielder and he lacks the genuine pace we need up front. If he left I would be dissapointed as we will no doubt replace with someone worse, but if and its a big IF we got decent money and we spent on young talent then I'd be happy with that. SuperMikey Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 The 2008/9 Squad 1. Kelvin Davis - Would love him to stay, but can't see it. Will go to a CCC or Prem club perhaps. 2. Chris Perry - Solid, but getting on a bit and ought to leave after his 1 year extension is up. 3. Wayne Thomas - CDAJFU, L1 would be his level if he can stay fit and injury free. 4. Marek Saganowski - Wants to leave, too expensive and inconsistent. G'bye. 5. Jan Paul Saeijs - Could potentially be excellent at L1 level, but wages and a fee could be a trouble, but would love him to stay. 6. Michael Svensson - Hope his contract is on a pay-as-you-play basis, otherwise he should seriously look at coaching, as fitness doesn't seem to be something he can maintain. 7. Rudi Skacel - Wants to go, we could get a decent fee for him and he's on relatively high wages. Off you pop. 8. Bradley Wright-Phillips - Could be a good player for us in L1 if he can sign a new contract with a large pay cut. 9. Gzregorz Rasiak - Looks like he's off. High wages, thinks he's a prem player and a bit injury prone. See ya. 10. Paul Wotton - If he stays fit, could be a great leader for us in L1. Bit of steel in the team. 11. Andrew Surman - As a Saints fan i'm sure he'd love to help us out, but this season hasn't been his best and he's attracted interest from Prem and CCC clubs, so really can't see him staying. 12. Lee Holmes - Looked good when he played this season, but spent a lot of time injured and that could be a hinderance. 13. Bart Bialkowski - Keep him, if Davis leaves he would be No.1 keeper 14. Stern John - Too expensive and out of contract. 15. Jason Euell - Out of contract (?) and probably too expensive. Otherwise, would like to keep him if he can agree some cheaper terms. 16. Romain Gasmi - Didn't see him play, but apparently he was sh*t. So bye. 17. David McGoldrick - If we can keep him he'll be good in L1. Showed some of his potential in the last few games, a few seasons at that level could help him find his confidence and goalscoring touch. 18. - 19. Morgan Schneiderlin - Doesn't seem to have merited his £1.2m fee, but with reported interest from Arsenal we could make a few bob from him (although I doubt Arsenal would want him after his poor performances) 20. Adam Lallana - Great potential but with interest from Fulham he could be on his way. 21. Jamie Hatch - Potential is there, doesn't seem to be ready for the first team yet though. Loan him to Bournemouth for the season with a recall clause. 22. Simon Gillett - Would like to keep him, showed some great spirit and would be good at L1 level. 23. Lloyd James - Definately try to keep him, he had a good season while the rest of the team performed poorly. If we can get a natural RB in I would like to see him play in midfield alongside someone like Wotton. 24. Oliver Lancashire - Potential, but not ready yet. Loan him to a smaller club or keep him as a backup. 25. 26. Jake Thomson - Would like to see him more involved with the first team next season, showed glimpses of promise and could be a good replacement for Dyer who will almost certainly go elsewhere. SuperMikey Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 Fee for Skacel? Must be dreaming! We'll be begging him, Saga, Rasiak and Thomas to tear up their contracts and go. Ah wait, he's out of contract isn't he? Heard on here that he had taken a rather substantial paycut in order to knock a year off his contract. If so, then he's off for free, but I reckon we could get a fee (not an entirely large one, around 250k-500k) if he has still got a contract left to run at SMS. Bailey Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 (edited) The 2008/2009 Saints squad: 1. Kelvin Davis - Would love him to stay. We'll wait and see. 2. Chris Perry - Triggered a 1-year extension after playing 20 plus games this season. Will be useful in League One. 3. Wayne Thomas - 1 year left on contract but wouldn't be surprised if he left as he's on a relatively big wage. 4. Marek Saganowski - Wants to leave, will be gone before long. Shame, as he'd be first-class in League One. 5. Jan Paul Saeijs - Wants to stay, would love him to stay, but could depend on Wotte remaining in charge. 6. Michael Svensson - Denies he's retired, but won't be surprised to hear him confirm it soon. 7. Rudi Skacel - Wants to leave, will be gone soon for free. Likely to have his contract cancelled by 'mutual consent'. 8. Bradley Wright-Phillips - Out of contract. Would be good in League One but must take big pay-cut to stay. 9. Gzregorz Rasiak - Permanent deal to Watford very likely. Won't be at Saints next season whatever happens. 10. Paul Wotton - Has 2 years remaining on his current deal. Good squad player in League One. 11. Andrew Surman - Already interest in Drew. Would love him to stay, but realistically he owes it to himself to move. 12. Lee Holmes - Too injury prone to attract interest from other clubs. Potential star player for us in League One. 13. Tommy Forecast - Handed a 5-year contract when he signed but no idea why. Yet to play for Saints and not been impressed with what I've seen in Reserve games. 14. Stern John - Out of contract. Will leave on a free. 15. Jason Euell - As above. Would be superb in League One but again, must take big pay-cut to stay at Saints. 16. Romain Gasmi - Heading back to France. Hasn't done anything during his time here. Waste of money in truth. 17. David McGoldrick - 14 goals this season for someone who's played a lot of games in midfield. There will be interest and understandably so, but hopefully we can keep hold of him. 18. Nathan Dyer - On loan at Swansea who want to sign him permanently. Would be superb in League One but unlikely we'll see him next season. A fee of around 500K would be decent. 19. Morgan Schneiderlin - Hasn't set the world alight in his first season, but he has potential and will develop into a top player. There may be interest, but I'd like to see him stay at Saints. 20. Adam Lallana - Several clubs interested, but my source is saying he would quite like to stay. That could be out of his hands though! If we can get £1m+ for him then we've done well. 21. Jamie Hatch - Yet to feature for Saints, but definitely one for the future. 22. Simon Gillett - Early candidate for next season's 'POTS' award. Will prove to be a real asset in League One. 23. Lloyd James - Interest in Lloyd, but fingers crossed we can keep him. Most improved player this season by far. 24. Oliver Lancashire - Got bags of potential, hopefully he'll show it in League One. One for the future. 25. Michael Poke - On loan at Torquay, but his Saints future is unclear. May have to wait and see what Kelvin does. 26. Jake Thomson - Same as Lancashire, has bags of potential and will be a good player for us in League One. 27. 28. Bartosz Bialkowski - Was on loan at Ipswich. Could be first-choice next season, depending on what happens with Davis. 29. 30. 31. 32. 33. Joseph Mills - Out of contract but has been offered a new 2-year deal. I really hope he signs as he has so much potential. He's likely to be our first-choice left-back next season too. 34. Jamie White - Good prospect. Did well on loan at Shrewsbury and will be a good player for us in League One. 35. Matthew Paterson - Not Paterson's biggest fan but could do well in League One. Time will tell. 36. 37. Oscar Gobern - Looks promising. Could prove to be a good player for us next season. 38. 39. Ryan Smith - Out of contract, only signed a 6-month contract in January and hasn't done enough to earn a new deal IMO. 40. Anthony Pulis - No comment . . . 41. Zoltan Liptak - Already had his loan ended early. Wotte confirmed this in recent post-match interview. 42. Kayne McLaggon - Looks very promising. Did well in the games he played in this season, just a shame he suffered a long-term injury. One-to-watch for us next season IMO. 43. Lee Molyneux - Not been impressed from what I've seen so far, but he's young and still has time to develop. Could make a good back-up for Mills, assuming he signs a new deal of course. 44. 45. Callum McNish - Only seen the lad for the Under 18's and Reserves but looks a good prospect. Confirmed departures: Zoltan Liptak - Loan terminated early. Returns to FC Ujpest in Hungary. Romain Gasmi - Wotte confirmed his loan will not be made permanent after failing to impress. Edited 5 May, 2009 by Bailey

Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 May, 2009 Share Posted 4 May, 2009 I think there are two essentials to recognise before talking about particular players. 1. There are a good number of players in this seasons team that have been playing in the wrong position and/or been made to play stupid tactics (e.g. Smith). A new manager who understands how to play a winger as a winger to get balls to the byline for decent crosses for instance will make a huge difference IMO. 2. A new regime that includes a new manager will NEED to clear out and start afresh to ensure tactics more suited to L1 are learnt quickly. This is the biggest issue facing the managerial, coaching and playing staff as we need a strong and successful start to the campaign. If we're struggling in the lower reaches after 6-7 games I will be extremely concerned - it could mean re-evaluation of the manager etc etc and you know where that leads. We cannot afford to make the same mistakes in L1 as Lowe did in the Prem and CCC.

Well thats an easy decision made then eh? He can f*ck right off if that's true - we need some men in the team for L1 ready for a fight. Give the RM job to James and recruit a decent RB. Big John Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 May have been suggested already (sorry), but I do hope that we have people watching the play-offs (all divisions) as there may be a few 'want aways' who have a bit of gumption in their armoury or show real promise. Also, I can't help thinking that Luton players performed amazingly well considering what they were up against. What would there points tally have been without that sword of Damacles over their heads? Could be one or two battlers there too, and the caoching staff also know what is required mentally and tactically. Anyone been following them this season? Charlie Wayman Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Probably the worst summary I have ever seen. Hey! Fair point but we need a fresh start do we not, not the same old, same old? None of the old palayers can improve on age grounds alone; let's face it they all looked ****ged out most of the last season and if the ball was more than 5 yards away the couldn't be Rrsed. Honestly I do not want to be in Division 4 in 2010/11.
sidthesquid Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 The 2008/2009 Saints squad: 1. Kelvin Davis - Mrs Davis might be less keen when she sees his new contract offer 2. Chris Perry - Could do okay in League One. 3. Wayne Thomas - Please, close the door on the way out. Possibly Burley's worst signing (and there were a few) Only remembered fondly now because he didn't kick a ball this season, but remember The Holy Nige preferred the Glassman to him last year 4. Marek Saganowski - Up there with Skacel in the overrated stakes. Gone for good, I hope 5. Jan Paul Saeijs - HCDefoDAJFU in League One 6. Michael Svensson - Everyone else knows he has sadly reached the end - just needs to accept it himself 7. Rudi Skacel - Taxi for Mr Skacel. Let's hope it's a fast one with a big tank of petrol. Overrated, overpaid & consistently underperformed 8. Bradley Wright-Phillips - He'll get one more decent contract on his family name somewhere before oblivion beckons. No improvement in three years here & no likelihood of it 9. Gzregorz Rasiak - Going somewhere, but doesn't seem like our player anyway. 10. Paul Wotton - Just about good enough for League One, but I think he will help the lads 11. Andrew Surman - Sadly he has to go to further his career 12. Lee Holmes - Will stay, but worried he is turning into the new Perry Groves 13. Bartosz Bialkowski - Gone, I would guess 14. Stern John - Gone already. 15. Jason Euell - I would call a taxi for him, too, but he'd probably miss it. Always a trier, but somewhere he lost his ability. Retirement or the MLS beckons 16. Romain Gasmi - Gone and forgotten 17. David McGoldrick - Please don't let him go, now he's become good (Not hopeful, though) 18. Nathan Dyer - Gone, I hope & the money would be handy. Seems incapable of playing for us like he does for others 19. Morgan Schneiderlin - I hope he stays - he is only 19 still & he has some talent 20. Adam Lallana - Will probably go, but another season with us would do him good 21. Jamie Hatch - Will probably stay & get his chance 22. Simon Gillett - Will be talked of as the new Dennis Wise by the end of next season 23. Lloyd James - Worried that he is out of contract & we'll lose him now that he has made the grade 24. Oliver Lancashire - Has some talent, but could easily be in onference South by the end of next season 25. Michael Poke - Presumably he will stay at Torquay 26. Jake Thomson - Next season will be his breakthrough season 33. Joseph Mills - He and James should be our full back pairing for next year, let's just hope we can keep him 34. Jamie White - Will make the grade next season 35. Matthew Paterson - Ditto 37. Oscar Gobern - And ditto again. They are all talented young lads who should get a chance without the burden of playing too often 39. Ryan Smith - Who knows if we want him or he'll stay 40. Anthony Pulis - Does he really exist? 42. Kayne McLaggon - Another one to come good next season. 43. Lee Molyneux - Might be okay & is contracted, but has a lot to prove With the release of funds from the wage bill, adding three or four steady journeymen amongst our youthful talent will see us do okay next year

new_zealand_saint Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Joey Barton will be without a club this summer and would add a bit of fight into our midfield lol, and plus, with all those suspensions he'll get for getting sent off in every game he plays, he'll still play more than Schneiderlin. But on a serious note, Adam Le Fondre would be a quality signing, same physique as BWP, but scores goals for fun at this level, and his dad is from Guernsey and went to school with one of the Le Tissier brothers, not 100% on that, but I think I remember reading that somewhere. Ricky Lambert would be good and Miguel Comingues or Phil Ifil (the one we had on loan from spurs a few years back) would be decent Right-Backs

Oh I'm sure he'd love to drop down a division and take a pay cut. Ifil I'd agree with, except he's potentially Colchester's record signing (depending on appearances) and hasn't played for their first teamsince November anyway, presumably due to injury as he's not played for their reserves either. We really do need to get this slightly mental "they'd sign for us, of course they would" attitude out of our heads... at least until we get taken over by a Warren Buffet and Carlos Slim Helu consortium. One instalment for add ons due to appearances.I think we paid 275K up front if you can believe that. It transpires more and more that a lot of the "raw material" for the academy was actually bought in in the semi-finished state. No wonder we're skint if we were paying 250K here there and everywhere for lads who didn't make it. The academy looks more and more to be very much hit and miss, for every player who really makes the grade 4 or 5 don't seem to.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Please no. Don't give him a break, please. I want to look forward to next season. Smith isn't that young, he's failed at supposedly smaller clubs that this. It's like a version of fernandes who always loses the ball and can't cross with either foot, and will always make the wrong decision. a tesco value fernandes perhaps. if Smith had a brain, he'd be almost good enough for league 1. but i don't see what training methods will develop this brain even if we rehire SCW. Thank goodness you're not manager, because with that summary I am sure you've never seen the lad play. He puts in equally good crosses to James, although he never gets a whole match - usually sub appearances when we're 3-0 down and chasing a game. I have studied his technique and IMO he has got the mark of a very good player, with perhaps a little more work at tracking back and putting a boot in. capitalsaint Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 I second you on that. I was sat in the family enclosure at the Burnley game, when he came on he destroyed the left back and put in two decent crosses. He wasn't on for that long but we looked so much more dangerous when we actually had some width. He close control was better than most of the players we have, I think if he was given a bit of coaching he'd be a decent player.
Saints foreva Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 We are desperate for money remember. If a takeover happens before he goes we could demand another £500k.

Atlanta Saint Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 do we have any outstanding money owed from the transfers of Theo, Jones and Bale etc?
doubleonothing Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 I know its a long shot, but do you think Kevin Phillips might consider a return!! he will def move on and he likes a challenge!! My god, does he know where the net is!! Prob too expensive, prob too injury prone, but hey, we need a goal scorer! Rumour was that Huddersfield were after him. Their manager has denied it though. Ricky Redstripe Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 do we have any outstanding money owed from the transfers of Theo, Jones and Bale etc? No to Bale and Theo, not sure about Jones, thought that was all up front.
Badger Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Kevin Phillips ? Would certainly score goals but it won't happen for two reasons;we can't afford his wages and he probably remembers the vitriolic abuse dished out to him by Saints fans ever since he left. Arizona Posted 5 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 5 May, 2009 or...you could look at it like this (if you didnt support saints, didnt watch him every game and were a club interested in buying him) He played every game because he's got a tremendous level of fitness? He's good in the air at 6'1 He's young and English. Time to develop even more. He got 14 goals for a team of youth players that finished 23rd in the ccc. I would be looking at 1mill (and a sell on) to another club as good business for us. 500k would be a great shame - might as well keep him. He's played every game because he's been injury free. His fitness in the first half of the season particularly, was shocking. He is marginally taller than average. Can't remember too many decent headers from him this season. I'm young and English. He has 13 goals, 11 in the League and only 9 of them from open play. Playing practically every minute of every game and scoring once a month isn't impressive. £1m will buy you Andrew Davies, BWP or John Viafara from Premiership clubs. The first two were both young, a had some Prem experience and more potential. I'd like you to be right, but I just don't see it.
EBS1980 Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Without knowing names, we could do with a proper left back for starters! a centre back with a bit of pace, a central midfielder who can put his foot on the ball and find a pass, and a big lump type forward who can put himself about and unsettle the oppo defenders. saint1977 Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 posted this before but Dany N'Guessan at Lincoln is worth a look in my opinion. Left winger that is out of contract in the summer and not looking to renew. He would command a fee though as he is under 24. Sheff Wednesday have looked at him. The last two left sided players I have recommended have been Matty Taylor when at Luton and Matt Jarvis when at Gillimgham and they both turned out well. Neil Eardley and Chris Taylor at Oldham are worth a look as well. Andy Bishop singed a new long term deal last summer so he would not come cheap. Not so sure he has been all that good this season to be honest. Quite a few pens in his 18 goals. Good call, mate of mine is a Lincoln fan and reckons this guy would do well in L1/CCC and he'd certainly stand a good chance of a regular game. Brezovhan the Swindon keeper is out of contract and if Kelvin does join Pearson he'd be a decent replacement. Chester have also got a French CM that was earning rave reviews before agents turned his head from L1 clubs and Chester are if anything in a worse mess than us. Could be worth a punt if we can secure new owners.
saint1977 Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 Lancashire is a bit slow and cumbersome to pay at right back, will give away even more penalties if faced with speedy wingmen. Lancashire should be offloaded to Eastleigh or Bournemouth or something. Eastleigh's current league is his level but I like the idea of him going to Bournemouth, horrible little club. Has to be in most fans worst ever XIs, alongside Jakobsson or Scott Marshall.
Over land and sea Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 I agree with Matthew Le God that it would be useful to track the academy as well as the first team (given how important they are likely to be). From his list, Steven Page from the above list was released very early in the season. I think the full current list, including Academy, is as follows: 1 Kelvin Davis (contract expires 30 June) 2 Chris Perry (contracted until summer 2010) 3 Wayne Thomas (contracted until summer 2010) 4 Marek Saganowski (wants to leave) 5 Jan Paul Saeijs – loan expired - states he wants to stay 6 Michael Svensson - contract expires 30 June 7 Rudi Skacel - out of contract. Released on May 6th 8 Bradley Wright-Phillips (contract expires 30 June) Will need to take a pay cut to stay. 9 Grzegorz Rasiak - was on loan at Watford; 1 year left on Saints contract. 10 Paul Wotton – contracted until summer 2011 11 Andrew Surman 12 Lee Holmes 13 Tommy Forecast 14 Stern John - was on loan at Bristol City; contract expires in summer 15 Jason Euell - contract expires 30 June 16 Romain Gasmi – loan has expired 17 David McGoldrick 18 Nathan Dyer - was on loan at Swansea who want to buy him 19 Morgan Schneiderlin 20 Adam Lallana 21 Jamie Hatch - out of contract. Chez Posted 6 May, 2009 Share Posted 6 May, 2009 We could always try Lloyd James there... I can't see him getting any offers from anyone else. I was thinking of cover for James to be honest, but I think the club has had an enquiry already hasn't it? My concern with James is his lack of strength in the air. Having tall fullbacks can help a great deal especially if your midfield and strikers are all short arses (as ours have been). Lancashire might also offer a little more pace and he seemed very assured on the ball (as James is I know). What Lancashire lacks is brute strength - critical when you are marking Adebola etc. If I'm honest I'm more concerned now with Perry at CB that James at fullback. Perrys is a liability IMO.
