Sheff Saint Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 No. Normally want stability but not this time round. Get rid, start again and cross everything that we don't end up with another GB so we can keep them for 5 years!

The9 Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 Seeing as he actually seemed to have a clue tactically, pushing Euell forward and getting some results when the players put in the effort, and it saves us going through the rigmarole of finding another new boss no better than the last one when it's mostly the players at fault for their lack of effort anyway, I'd consider sticking with him. Then again, I'd take some b*stard that makes them run up mountains and that they're scared of any day. I actually think Wotte's outlook "I'm boss til July and then I'll take whatever" is remarkably refreshing. He's not too worried about someone else coming in if that does happen, and that sends a good message.

david in sweden Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 (edited) No. He aligned himself to close to Lowe, so he only has himself to blame. **** him. I'm surprised he took the job in the " second place" because RL promised him the job once before and then ditched him in favour of Burley instead. As Lowe gave him the job last summer, no fool would come out and openly criticise his chairman (at least he was diplomatic enough to avoid doing that) can't help thinking we might have done a bit better had he started as manager in August. That long period with JP at the helm more or less sunk us even before he (MW) took over. At least he used a few more experienced players that JP did. (Some people commented that JP never consulted him anyway and they didn't get along !) Still it's all history now, and as for keeping him ....No ..sorry Mark. Good effort, but there are too many negatives at present and a new chairman would be putting his own head on the block - if we start next season as we finished this one...the knives would be out for everyone. Ponty Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 I actually don't care one way or the other. He'd probably do a good job in L1 tbh, but I quite like the idea of a new manager under a new board too.
sadoldgit Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 I wonder what the vote would have been when Lawrie Mac took us down all those years ago? He didn't have the best start and struggled a bit before turning things round. LIke Pearson it is very difficult to judge Wotte properly given the circumstances in which he came in. I expect we will have yet another new manager next seaosn but if Wotte stays I hope that he gets the support he will need.

derry Posted 5 May, 2009 Share Posted 5 May, 2009 I'm fed up to the back teeth watching plan A - D the bloody awful narrow, vulnerable, non scoring diamond. The players don't like it, want to ditch it AND CAN'T PLAY IT.

SaintRobbie Posted 7 May, 2009 Share Posted 7 May, 2009 He'd probably do a good job in L1 tbh. What evidence do you use to back that up with Ponty? Not getting at you, just genuinely interested in your perspective as I can see NO reason for keeping Wotte. Even consistency doesnt wash for me as an argument for a team already losing its players and about to come under new strategic leadership.

krissyboy31 Posted 7 May, 2009 Share Posted 7 May, 2009 No, the guy tried his best in difficult circumstances and certainly had more about him than Poortvliet but in the end came up short. A clean sweep please! New owner, new board, new manager and pretty much, a new team.

St Marco Posted 16 May, 2009 Author Share Posted 16 May, 2009 2 weeks on and he still not resigned like he said he would if he got us relegated. Hopefully whoever takesover us will give him the push as i assume he is on just a rolling contract so no comp will be paid.
chivvy1664 Posted 16 May, 2009 Share Posted 16 May, 2009 talks a good game but no. Had to think about for 20 secs. Alarming number of goals conceded from set pieces means no. WGC Saint Posted 16 May, 2009 Share Posted 16 May, 2009 No from me. Nothing personal aganst the guy just think we need a whole new start from top to bottom.
St_Tel49 Posted 16 May, 2009 Share Posted 16 May, 2009 A considered "No". Under JP we played very good football at times, and it was a pleasure to watch but, ultimately it was not winning football. Wotte made a very good start and I thought that we had turned the corner but what concerns me is that every time there was game that we absolutely had to win, we lost it. It is possible that I am blaming Wotte for a failure in the psyche of the players (who he was not responsible for acquiring) but I feel that the problems that we saw at the start of the season were still there at the end. Don't get me wrong - I actually liked both JP and Wotte for different reasons but I believe that we need a manager familiar with the bear pit that is league one. Boothroyd would be my choice but I am sure others have credentials as well. Ince is one I would NOT consider. My problem with him is that when things went wrong at Blackburn he did not appear to know what to do about it. We have had too much of that recently. Graffito Posted 16 May, 2009 Share Posted 16 May, 2009 I'd go with Boothroyd. I wouldn't say that if Saints weren't in the third division; I prefer the passing game. But I do believe he could get us back up.

dubsaint Posted 16 May, 2009 Share Posted 16 May, 2009 Yes or No My view is a clear no. Wotte has been crap. If he was in charge from the start of the season he would of still got us relegated. He had 18 games which is only 5 short of half a season. Was here from pre-season and knows the players. 19 points from 18 games x 46 = 48 points. Which would still have resulted in relegation. No, nice guy but doesn't know the English gane

krissyboy31 Posted 20 May, 2009 Share Posted 20 May, 2009 Fair play to Wotte, who is doing a professional job in almost impossible circumstances. I think I would still like a completely new break with a new manager installed but at least Wotte is talking the talk and looks like he is doing his homework and learning from last season's mistakes. http://www.saintsfc.co.uk/articles/article.php?page_id=11768

Wes Tender Posted 20 May, 2009 Share Posted 20 May, 2009 Yes, lets change the manager again - after all, this one's had over 3 months and I'm sure we can get someone worse. Just what happened when we had Pearson here, eh? Only here for a short time and as Lowe wasn't satisfied because he hadn't appointed him, so he went and chose somebody worse. I'll look forward to you digging through the archives and posting your response at that time, along the lines of your current post. Or is it OK when Lowe makes managerial changes, but nobody else is allowed to without getting the flak?
