Why?? He's had back to back promotions at Exeter and has things organised the way he wants down there. He will have little pressure on him.

Or he could join the soap opera that is SFC.....

Oh, well if he's a completely ambition-less coaster after an easy life then yes, I agree.

possibly owned by group headed by ex-team mate.

32,000 seater stadium - likely to get 12k+ short term, good away support, history, publicity - much better on his CV.

or stay with Exeter, highest crowd - 8,500, lowest 2,800, average 4,900.

the man must go from the club, i have heard talk of him going back to the academy but imo, that would be a bad move we need to start producing players in the academy who can play in the league the first team is in not future premiership players.

NP wasn't GB's replacement - that was the point.

Of course he was.

If you're trying to intimate it was Dodd and Gorman who were his replacements then you're talking jibberish.

They were only ever caretakers, and even if you try and suggest that the "foreseeable future" quotes suggested they were permanent, then you conveniently missed the following quotes from the same interviews around 7/8th February.

"we will not be rushed into an appointment",

"It allows the Club more time over the hunt for a replacement",

"We always said we would take our time to make sure we appoint the right person"

It allows the Club to take their time over the hunt for a replacement for George Burley.

Saints manager search put on hold

Gorman and Dodd have been in charge since George Burley's exit

Southampton have confirmed caretaker bosses John Gorman and Jason Dodd will remain in charge at the club for the "foreseeable future".

The duo took over after George Burley left to become Scotland boss and Saints director Lawrie McMenemy is happy.

He said: "The ship is nice and steady, management is about doing the best with what's available and that's what these two lads are doing."

And as for keeping Wotte than it's a big No No for me.

And before people go on about stability, then I'm afraid stability cannot justify compunding the initial error and sticking with someone who is not up to the job.

He was integral to the Revolutionary Coaching Set Up and must take his share of the blame for 28 games that delivered less than a point a game.

He was also misguided in hs initial outbursts and failed to engender any rapport and spirit of unity with the supporters.

And then of course there is his performance over the 18 games he has been in charge for. A return of 19 points which would if extrapolated over a season would have had us on 48/49 points, still not enough to save us from being relegated!!!!!!

I am big advocate of stability, however I agree this is not the time - there is none! So re-assess and get the best man for the job.

I am quite surprised it is as one sided as it is. As i thought a lot of people liked the guy and had confidence in him as he got those three wins back to back.

But the harsh reality is the guy has done awful in every aspect of the job. He failed to motivate the players. Didn't get the team playing we'll at all. Didn't get any consistency going. Came across as a complete arse in his match comments. I will never forget his remarks saying Lowe was doing a good job and the fans were to blame etc. His team selections were very Burley like with people in foreign positions.

He had 18 games and in those 18 games our defence fell apart letting in a massive 27 goals. That is 1.5 goals against a game. Jan had exactly the same goals scored against ratio with 42 goals from his 28 games. So the myth is he sorted the defence out.

Add to that he gained a player Jan did not have who contributed 6 goals makes his goals for record look better then it really is. We scored 22 goals while he was in charge. If we take away Sagas 6 goals that makes 16 goals from 18 games. That makes his ratio of goals a game 0.88 without Sagas goals. That is worse then Jans goals record for as he has 26 goals from 28 games which is 0.92 goals a game. So without Saga Wotte would have done worse then Jan did without him.

Add to that when Jan left us we were 3 points away from safety where as we finish under Wotte 6 points from Safety.

So in trying to find something to be positive in with the guy there is nothing. All areas he has done poor in. No area has he done well in or given any indication he could be good.

As far as im concerned the guy should take a huge chunk of the blame for us going down.

lol Benjii, taking a club forward into a new season at the highest level they've been at (something he did with Team Bath as well) does not strike me as a lack of ambition. FWIW I do agree with you that Tisdale would be a decent appointment but I'm sure he will show some loyalty to Exeter.

Right now, they are the better placed club, lets hope we get bought soon & we can begin to stabilise. Then we may be a decent draw for a manager & players at that level.

point is we got worse after he went proving those saying anyone would be better wrong.

at any time since he has gone we would gladly go back to how badly we performed under him.

this is why stability, knowing your owners budget etc are all factors,

however, as above, have agreed with you this is time for fresh change - (although personally even with doubts I have over him, and the links to the past, I would probably go for him over some of the names that always do the rounds!).

The is the simple point I was trying to make, sorry if it wasn't clear, - I wouldn't just sack him for the sake of it but would hope we could recruit better candidate.

Have no desire to get into another of your lengthy pedantic multi-quote arguements. - although it is clear they intended to keep them!;)

Why do we have to ask such damned hard questions on here? Not all of us are intellectuals. How much time do we get to answer?

I think I will have to disagree with most of you.

Let's keep Wotte on as manager

of the bootboys. Maybe just maybe he might be able to MANAGE that little job.

In which case you need to steer clear of making stupid assertions because Dodd and Gorman were not Burley's repacements, just as Wise and Bassett weren't Redknapps and Wigley wasn't Strachans!!!!

Burley's replacement was Pearson and his short stint was on a par with Burley's final run of games. And of course many think he could have pushed on from that, but we all know what happened next...........

I like him. He's done a reasonable job when set against the financial constraints and impending administration. He brought back some under-used experienced players that resulted in some good performances and unlike others, I think if he'd been in from the start of the season, then we may well have ended up with more points, although probably not enough to resist relegation from the 10 point deduction.

But for next season, no. We will need a manager who knows the lower levels of english football and the best way to get out of a league that will be bruising and brawny. Wotte seems quite sensible, but i'd rather have an experienced fighter than an eloquent foreigner who doesn't quite grasp the type of league that the 3rd tier of english football is.

No chance. If he stays we're doomed to dropping another tier, I reckon. Crazyness to bring him and Portaloo in to start with and my initial feelings about them were proved right, even if during the short bright periods I had doubts and started believing something miraculous might happen. That's the thing about being a fan, you always want to believe until it's gone beyond hope. Unfortunately, for me that was months ago.

Yes

or

No

My view is a clear no. Wotte has been crap. If he was in charge from the start of the season he would of still got us relegated. He had 18 games which is only 5 short of half a season. Was here from pre-season and knows the players. 19 points from 18 games x 46 = 48 points. Which would still have resulted in relegation.

Answer has to be NO i am sure he is a nice guy but we need a manager who is a proper b to make sure a young team in league 1 listens to them, just realised today that it will be at least 2 years before we get back to the premiership at the earliest, i feel sad

I feel torn on this as I believe that most of our problems in recent years can be traced to manager turnover. So I'm inclined to give Wotte more time.

That said I've seen very little evidence that he's up to the job and assuming we're in business next season and assuming we might have to completely rebuild the squad, I do wonder whether he has the right experience.

Therefore I voted "No". But if he's in place next season I'll support him.

Funny this, Woote didn't do much worse than Pearson with a poorer squad. If we had gone down with Pearson last year would the reaction had been the same? Afterall he only managed to win three games. I suspect it has more to do with Pearson not being a Lowe appointment and Wotte was. Even Burley gets stick on here yet in comparison things were a great deal better under him..but he was another Lowe appoitment so he has to be bad right?

In retrospect I think that Wotte would have been the better choice than JP as head coach. Still it is a moot point because we didn't have the squad to make the top half of the table so with 10 points deducted for admin would probably gone down even if Pearson had been head coach.

Thing is, we have been appalling defensively and who coaches the defence? Does Killer escape flak because he was a great player for us?

No - I tell you why I think thats wrong - Club policy. JP is a better coach but was not permitted to select experienced players - Wotte was.

Simple really. The two were simply not given the same playing field (parden the pun).

The difference between the dutch and Pearson in my book is that Pearson would probably not have allowed our defence to remain so poor. He I am sure would have been able to secure better loan players to bale us out.

Exactly , i do not believe we would have had Peckhaert, Robertson and co , Wotte was involved from day one not just from the day he became manager
