John B Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 An Ipswich Town supporter who is staying with us this weekend says that the meaningless fixture Ipswich v Coventry is attracting some 29000 spectators because of Roy Keane's involvement today. Apart from Shearer is there any other manager we could attract that would boost our attendance figures significantly next season.

Our game at Forest is equally meaningless but is a 30,000 sell-out. Roy Keane's arrival may have had some impact as along with their 3-0 win at Cardiff but I'm surprised it's not a sell-out assuming that the missing 1000 fans isn't Coventry fans not travelling.

It is the Keane affect that is causing the large crowd according to My Ipswich Friend
eelpie Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 It is the Keane affect that is causing the large crowd according to My Ipswich Friend And the Rupert effect at Forest? I hope our travelling fans give him a memorable lambasting!

Yeah but wasnt that sold out before the Norwich game on Monday, when the tickets were bought, Forest were still in danger of relegation but Norwich's Monday loss meant they were safe anyway.
SaintRobbie Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Apart from Shearer is there any other manager we could attract that would boost our attendance figures significantly next season. Ince. or... any manager except Wotte.
ooohTerryHurlock Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Keegan? Still a big draw - available, with connections and affliation to the club. The crowd would rally to him I am sure - anything to do with Beckham as well I guess. .... or possibly if RL put on a tracksuit.... then again maybe no!!!
Badvoc Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Definitely Keggy Keegan. We could be the project that defines him after years in the wilderness following his only successful period with NCFC (first time around). Saints would be ideal for him as there is no pressure now. We are so in the s88t that anything he brings would be a benefit. Above all now though, SFC needs a figurehead to get behind. As fans we haven't 'owned' a manager since Strachan, and have been orphaned ever since; although with Pearson I believed we actually 'had' someone for a while. In short, we need someone to call our own. If KK wants a challenge with a huge upside SFC would be an ideal opportunity. We have the historical connection too, so if assuming he is financially secure and doesn't need the cash Saints could be an ideal opportunity to resurrect his (somewhat) tarnished managerial image. IMHO
Amesbury Saint Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 whilst I am sure that the names quoted above would have a short term bounce affect, the new owners needs to employ some great marketing people to make the bounce more than short term. The first few days 1. New owner 2. New manager 3. Lots of positive stories on OS and in local press 4. Prices for STs perhaps with a heavy discount for those who buy by end of May. 5. KD signs new contract 6. Time for more marketing of STs and memberships. 7. Clearout of cr*p players 8. Some good new signings 9. Announcement of a couple of good sides for friendlies at SMS etc
Badger Posted 3 May, 2009 Posted 3 May, 2009 Ince. or... any manager except Wotte. Ince ? Seriously ? Okay, and without wishing to be accused of racism, I'll black my face up and buy a ticket. As opposed to just buying a ticket and going anyway. Ince is a 'Billy Big B0llocks' who talks a big game.No real attraction or record of achievement to put numbers on the gate.
