John B Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 John B he played for Pompey 1942 before joining us. Ramsey was born in Dagenham, Essex. Having been a gifted amateur as a pupil and as a player for his army regiment, he played for Portsmouth in the London War League in 1942 before moving to Southampton from 1943 to 1949 taken from en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alf_Ramsey Well you live and you learn He must have like Blue as he was involved at both Ipswich and Birmingham City
70's Mike Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Bobby was a stalwart for us and would have played a lot more in a weaker team. Then there is the 83rd minute goal for which he will always be remembered. Bobby was a hero for that goal but in reality there are many players who have worn the shirt in the last 46 years who were better players
SFC Forever Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Just think what we would think if Holmes came back as manager and took us up the leagues as he has Salisbury. Plus he has little or no money to play with.
John B Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Why is it the Lowe supporters are the one's who run Lawrie down. Are they indoctrinated into some sort of Lowe cult? Brainwashed into following their master's spin. Personally if Lawrie hadn't fallen out with Lowe, I dont beleive for one minute that anyone would be questioning his honesty, competance or record at the Club. Take the Chris Mac stuff with Pearson and the expenses for the Osman night. No matter how hard Lowe and his foot soliders try most Saints fans are grateful to Lawrie and proud of the teams he built. Him and Ted are head and shoulders above any other Manager at this Club, I'm just glad Ted didn't fall out with Lowe, because god knows what the Loweittes would say about him. I dont think anybody could saying anything bad about Ted Bates and I dont really know what bad things have been said about Lawrie Mac. He did leave us in the lurch which of course Ted did not but that was twenty five years ago .
John B Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Bobby was a hero for that goal but in reality there are many players who have worn the shirt in the last 46 years who were better players But Stands are named in memory of a person or event and his goal will be etched on my memory like Geoff Hurst last goal for ever

John B Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 he also came back to get us out of a mess during Branfoots time. So why are people having a go at him. Alan Ball left us twice Mick Channon also left that is just life.

John B Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 (edited) do not have a clue why ? must be real low lifes One memory I have of Lawrie was at the League Cup Final at Wembley when the teams were led out by the managers my brother said to me how smart Lawrie in his suit looked compared Brian Clough in his scruffy green top and red track suit bottoms. I also remember we always clapped him in the Milton Road end when he came out from the changing room But despite taking the lead we lost that day Edited 2 May, 2009 by John B
TNT Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Why do i get the impression that certain people start these sort of posts for a reason and agenda ? Its so blatant that this is posted for a reason and so the usual rubbish from nineteen canteen can then pollute this forum. Tiresome and boring and very very sad.

Daren W Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Also i wonder what would be said by his "brainwashed" if MLT had fallen out with the pig farmer as well...??? To be fair, now Matt has pinned his colours to the anti Lowe mast I think it's only a matter of tine before Numpteen Beast and his cabal start questioning expenses, playing record etc...

It is fans like yourself who seem to want division and wish to put a wedge between the fans. I firmly believe that it would be right as i suggested to have a stand named after LM
Gingeletiss Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 well TNT you obviously blew your own brains out. I have had ample opportunity to sling mud but I havent. TNT has called it right, a few other posters on this thread have questioned your reasons. You have readily had a pop at me and TNT, but still haven't explained why you have a wish to immortalize someone you dislike!!
Big Ron fan Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 Leeds tried prising Lawrie away from us when they were a top 5 club in 79, promising him much more money and a huge transfer budget. He stayed out of loyalty, i don't begrudge him his sunderland move one bit. I saints at that time showed more ambition maybe he would have stayed in 85 too. He also turned down ManU in 81 when Atkinson ended up with the job. His stated reason for leaving Saints (apart from the challenge of reinvigorating a North East 'giant') was the change in the League rules coming in that season whereby the home team kept all the gate receipts - for the younger ones among you, 1/3 used to go to the away side. He felt that this change in the balance of the finances between clubs would mean that Saints, with such a small ground, would never be able to challenge at the top again. I guess he was right on this. It should be remembered too that Sunderland were in the 2nd division when he went there.
SFC Forever Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 For what it's worth I absolutely abhor my mother in law. However I respect her for giving me her daughter. Different topic but same principle I believe. You don't have to like someone but can still respect their achievements.
OldNick Posted 2 May, 2009 Author Posted 2 May, 2009 nick.........call it as it as it is........McMoney, I think that's what you call him. TNT has called it right, a few other posters on this thread have questioned your reasons. You have readily had a pop at me and TNT, but still haven't explained why you have a wish to immortalize someone you dislike!! Find me calling him that (as I believe I only have ever put LM) and i will apologise if not you come back and do so yourself. As a club we are at what i would like to believe a new start.Do we stay like we are and carry on talking about these things like the potato famine forever? or do we recognise that we have to unite and forget the past.Mention it and debate it you wish but unless we try and meet on common ground it will be the constant spiral down. I am prepared to wish for LM to have a stand named after him down to his exploits as our manager. The rest I d rather leave at present unless people just wish to carry on with the self defeating nonsense. People are still worrying about a picture in the boardroom FFS. hands up anyone on here who has ever been in there? it was only people stirring trouble between the parties who ever brought it to light in the first place. As for your assertion of me disliking him, I have never met him and so can't judge in that respect
samoakley Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 I belive LM should get a stand named after him but i grantee unfortuntaly it will happen if something bad happens 2 LM through death or illness. I do belive he has given SFC are great years but im hoping we say the same for MW you never know getting us back up and keeping us in the championship 2010/11 season and then making a playoff apperance in his 3rd full season would make him a legend of all legends at SFC.
Alain Perrin Posted 2 May, 2009 Posted 2 May, 2009 nick.........call it as it as it is........McMoney, I think that's what you call him. TNT has called it right, a few other posters on this thread have questioned your reasons. You have readily had a pop at me and TNT, but still haven't explained why you have a wish to immortalize someone you dislike!! It's the ability to recognise someone can do something's right, and something's wrong. Just because they do something wrong (in your opinion) doesn't mean that everything they've ever done is bad. You should try it, it's liberating. Personally I'd like LM away from pitchside. I don't care about the rest (I was only 2 in '76). The PA system is so bad where I sit, once you get a northerner on, I can't understand a word he says on the microphone...."something about cheese..."
