Whitey Grandad Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 I would have gone but I think canceling is the right thing to do. The bucket collection sort of made sense "to get Saints to the end of the season", but now the season has ended the club just needs to be sold, we might make enough to pay the administrators for another week then what? We can't hold a charity match every week. We've been doing that all season. Paying good money to watch a load of impecunious, over the hill, unforunates run around a bit. The9 Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 UI - games cancelled as not now needed http://www.clubfanzine.com/southampton/v2.showNews.php?id=19611 Good and optimistic angle, to claim its being cancelled because "it's not required" is laughable when only 1500 tickets had shifted and we're still in admin until someone ACTUALLY buys us. Jonnyboy Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 Seems a shame - me and three mates were gonna buy on the door. I expect quite a few others were going to too seeing as the ticket phone line/office were being so crap...

rocknrollman no2 Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 My mates and me had already bought tickets, but a lot of people i know didnt think it was worth going, especially when they were told that while the ground staff were working for free, a certain high profile person had asked for £500 expenses.Dont know if this is true, but from what ive read on here and been told by sms staff,a lot of people seem to believe it. I want to do everything i can to help save Saints, but i feel the generousity of us fans is being taken for granted by certain people.

I want to do everything i can to help save Saints, but i feel the generousity of us fans is being taken for granted by certain people.I think it was alluded to on here about £500 expenses, it seems it is common for charity events. The organisers dont publicise it much though.I think they might feel people may not like it if they knew. Everytime I see a so called celebrity talking up a charity i cant help thinking 'I wonder what their fee is?' Of course if those celebrities didnt do it, the events are not so well supported and so they do add a value. Paul Chuckle Posted 13 May, 2009 Share Posted 13 May, 2009 May as well shut the ticket office now and send all staff home until further notice??? What else us the club paying them for at the moment? Can't sell season tickets, no more match tickets so sell. I know it's harsh but hard times call for hard action. Plus if we get taken over they can all have their jobs back
yorkie Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 Who would that certain well known be then - the local MP? The gravy train at SMS has dried up - and the platform still looks full of expectant journeymen! Charity Matches are jsut that - it's for charity! If you don't wish to donate your time for free, and cover your own expenses then you shouldn't get involved. This is why I rarely give to charity - because how much is left after expenses? If this so called person is unemployed, has no possible way of covering their expenses - perhaps we should raise a few bob for them! Unlikely that it is I bet the person alledgedly wanting £500 to cover expenses was trying it on like most MPs have been. (topical as usual). So let's face it - massive walk-up on the day? Cost for policing and staffing at SMS? If they really wanted to do something - why not on a pitch at Southampton Common or the Sports Centre? No it's a little too far from the comfort zone - and people would actually be able to talk to players and alike! Charity - charity begins at home...did Rupert offer any money? thegaffer Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 No one asked for expenses rocknrollman why not name names if so many people have told you. Legal action is on the way for three people on this forum why not make it four. Mike Osman

Legal action is on the way for three people on this forum why not make it four. Mike Osman Why so touchy? Im not suggesting anyone did ask for money, thats why i didnt name the person i was told about. As i said in my post "i dont know if its true". Wether its true or not, theres obviously something wrong down at St Marys if rumours like this are branded about, dont you think?I thought those days were gone with Rupert? As ive also already stated i had actually bought tickets for this match as i thought it would be a good day out,but it seems a lot of fans had their reasons to why they were not going.I was only saying what i was told(also by a steward as well). Im glad you have put the record straight Mr Osman and im also glad that everything is above board. But as i didnt actually accuse anyone,i dont appreicate the threats. Oh while im on here Mr Osman if in the future you and your friends want to put on a charity match, why not publicise it a lot better? For instance whos playing other than five named people might help. INFLUENCED.COM Posted 14 May, 2009 Share Posted 14 May, 2009 No one asked for expenses rocknrollman why not name names if so many people have told you. Legal action is on the way for three people on this forum why not make it four. Mike Osman "the Judge considered that in the context of defamation law, postings and communications of this kind are more “akin to slanders”. The distinction between the two causes of action is important because slander is only actionable if the claimant can prove special (monetary) damage caused by the imputation - however injurious to reputation, however malicious the motive of the defendant" The above was a link from Give it to Ron's post on another thread, why waste good money, you have stated above noone asked for expenses, start a thread on here, or post a statement for all to read then this can be put to bed
