Window Cleaner Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I changed a couple of details to cover his ass. You mean he's really a taxi driver who got the info from a hairdresser. Nuff said, must be true.
OfnPanad Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Sounds very feasible to me. One consortium did seem hot of the blocks in get due diligence done. They probably spent a fair amount to do this & could well be ready to do a deal. Interesting to hear the Surman sale mentioned. Fry said he was working on a contingency plan in case a deal didn't happen soon. Now we know what that was. £700K would give him a few more weeks to sell the club. Good news either way. According to League rules if we're in administration on May 10th we're ineligible to take part in the league competition next season. With all the "are we/aren't we" and "appeals" talk going on I'm sure I speak for most when I say I'd rather have someone in well before Sunday, so as not to give the League another potential stick to beat us with.
John B Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 For revealing what? No specifics, no names and the Surman deal is widely reported in the media. Besides, I changed a couple of details to cover his ass. But thanks for your concerns. I'm sure there are teams of legal types trawling this forum to track down loose lipped bean counters! BTW Great first post. Welcome to our forum. What he is a she and has no friends?

BTW Great first post. Welcome to our forum. He normally posts on a Pompey website, with gems like this: Posted on 08/01/2009 10:49 The current situation explained for the mongs Portsmouth are in transition, Our previous squad was build on finance not on solid foundations like 35k gates etc, our quality squad was build around buying and trading players using finance that came from Sasha's contacts as he is a financier. Due to the credit crunch we can no longer refinance constantly as banks dont want to lend especially to high risk business's like football clubs that can get relegated and go into admin with little security (cant sell stadium land) HENCE we have to cut our cloth accordingly, this means recouping cash on assets and reducing our wage bill. Our wage must be horrendous whilst harry was here the following people were probably on 60k a week + Harry James Distin Campbell Diarra Defoe Crouch Johnson (maybe) Thats £25m before you add National Insurance or any transfer fees it cost to get them Harry Redknapp did everything Short term and from what I can see the club bent over to far to please him, when he was told it was unsustainable he jumped ship. The point I am making is that we will never see a team quite like we have had because they were beyond our means, we need to rebuild again but it will take longer and we need to back the club and manager while they sort it out and not do a teddybass and start throwing dollies. Be thankful that we won the cup and trust Peter Storrie to ensure that we can put a decent squad together and stay in the premier league because by god we'd be totally screwed without him. Don't you love getting a lesson in the economics of football, from a Skate?

Well we are in League 1 and Surman therefore is a League 1 player. If he was worth more surely he would have played better ans we could still be in the Championship

Elmore Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Can't disagree with that but Surman was born locally, went to Bitterne Park school and loves Saints. He has the potential to be a Premiership player and the potential to become as loyal as MLT. I think you'll find it was St Marys, (possibly preceded by a short time at Weston Park), and he is Saints through and through, we were the only club he wanted to play for. However he's ready to go and I can't believe the number of people on this site who have been giving him stick. The lad has been d-cked about something chronic and I reckon that the form of most players, under the same circumstances, would suffer. Maybe that's why we are where we are. I for one wouldn't blame him for wanting away and I believe he will regain his enthusiasm and prove all doubters, on this forum, wrong. Totally agree - he will prove the whingers on this site wrong.

Saint Nobby Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I don't post much - but I read most threads. I just wanted to say that Drew has been one of the only players worth watching for the last 2 years. His attitude on and off of the pitch has been excellent. Yes he's had some hard games and sometimes hasn't delivered but I don't think there have been many (any?) others who have fought so hard to keep this club moving forwards. If he is sold I wish him the very best for the future and hope that one day we'll be a big enough club to get him back. We've frequently had to watch a load of rubbish for the last 2 years served up by players that really don't care about our city, our club or us. Who knows what the next few days, weeks, months will bring? One thing's for sure, there's never a dull moment following the Saints (except sometimes between 3 and 4:50pm on Saturdays. back to lurking ...
Clapham Saint Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Sorry Trousers. You know as much as I know. I am attempting to find out the name of thoffice in Southae firm in Southampton. Does our friend work for Horwath Clark Whitehill LLP? If si he ma have been auditing Pwc. I think the have a fairly large office in Southampton....
NickG Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Surman is a decent player - and local lad. I don't think he had a very good season -some very poor games and missed a few sitters towards the end of the season. If he stays and if we are doing well next season - two big ifs! I think he is the sort of player to excel in a winning side.
docker-p Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 I fear Surman will be another Oakley, in that bags of early promise is never really fullfilled. £700K for Surman seems about right, but as someone has already said it does point to a consortium without much money.
Jeff Le Taxi Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Any idea what area(s) the 1% incomplete part covers? Small matter of the CASH!!

Why? Surman was always going to leave this summer. The amount you get for him is hwat anyone is willing to pay. This does not change depending on how rich or poor your owners are. The days of inflated fees are gone. He is worth about this IMO.
NickG Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Though I read on here (many times) he was actually gone before last transfer deadline only a fool would expect him to stay!
Nineteen Canteen Posted 30 April, 2009 Posted 30 April, 2009 Any idea what area(s) the 1% incomplete part covers? The other £9.3m?

Nobby, I think you have spent to long lurking on this forum than watching games. I like Surman and think he really cares about Saints and has a good attitude but that does not make him a good player. I wish I knew what happened but he has consistently failed to show the promise he was showing us before his U21 call up. He can't tackle, gets stuck in the channels, hopeless with a dead ball to such a degree if we win a corner and Surman is taking it we have as about as much advantage as if we had been awarded a goal kick. He rarely beats the first defender or over hits it completely. Free kicks are awful and apart from his effort at Blackpool recently I can't recall a time he has come close to scoring and other freekicks he takes from the flanks always go straight to the keeper with to much curl on them. £700k would have been a downpayment for him a few years ago but now he seems overvalued at that price. Decent bloke but either we have asked to much of him and he hasn't been able to cope with the pressure or he simply hasn't the determination to fulfill his undoubted early promise. In any event Surman has been part of the rubbish we have been watching as oppose to trying to obviously stem the tide. Gillet has shown him this season in what was needed from our midfielders in terms of passion and determination.
mr_bishiuk Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 He normally posts on a Pompey website, with gems like this: [/i] Don't you love getting a lesson in the economics of football, from a Skate? First of all I did not try to give any economics lessons to any Southampton forum, that post was done months ago and was talking about PFC on a PFC forum, I don't think it has much relevance to you (interesting that you were bothered to go that far back) The reason I posted here was because I am an auditor and I felt that the OP is putting someone's job at risk, everything you learn is confidential if someone from your club reads the OP (likely?) and makes a complaint about how dealings were leaked here there would have to be an investigation to find the culprit, on top of that if things go wrong scapegoats are sought. I do not think it would be hard to figure out who did it, you don't send too many auditors to accountants as they do the file themselves. I was reading the forum to find out what's going on, its all interesting is it not? and yes of course we'd be in exactly the same boat if we got relegated from the premier league.

Frank's cousin Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 Whilst 700K for surman seems low, it does seem realistic given teh circumstances - BUT I am surprized that fans seem to be accepting of this .... can you imagine the stick Lowe would have got if he was the new owner and this was the first thing he did? ;-)

oxfordshire_saint Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 I can't blame Surman for wanting to leave, to be honest I think he's doing it a year too late. My main memories of him would be his goal against Derby in the playoffs at St Mary's (shame it was downhill from there in the playoffs!) and his lung-busting performance against Sheff Utd on the last day of last season. Reading would be a good move, as he could play to his strengths and be backed up by their more physical players, something we've lacked. He'd be of little use to us in League One as the game will be even more physical and more direct, it'd pass him by.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 Frankly I am not too sure why anyone can get too heated over what is afterall a pretty 'out there' rumour. I would not be surprised to see Surman still in the squad come August TBH - with the biggest proviso being IF the club is still in existence then, because I am not too optomistic right now.
crouchi Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 Hard though it would be for him to take, going down to Div 1 is not the career choice to make! We need the money, he needs to be in or around the top flight. Reading would be a good choice for many reasons as covered above. Then he'll be in the same boat as Dexter and the rest, villified by saints forums, lauded by the new ones.
RobM Posted 1 May, 2009 Posted 1 May, 2009 Let's pretend for a second that all this is true. Is nobody else worried that even before the club is sold, these buyers are selling players? If I were a serious buyer, I'd be trying to keep all the current squad together until a new manager was appointed. If the owners of the club are dictating who is bought and sold, I'm scared. This should be entirely up to the manager. So either one of three things seems true... 1) These buyers are the sort who want control of the team, transfers etc that should be left up to the manager (ala Lowe) 2) These buyers don't have the cash we need so have to sell players to get by. 3) This rumour is complete bull**** from somebody desperate for attention who wants to be seen as 'in the know' Pick your favourite. I am always happy to eat humble pie if I'm wrong though

'Anything is better than what we have.. was the call as I remember. That led to instability, overspending and now potentially no club. Thanks Wilde.
