And the first player out is .......

CHAPEL END CHARLIE

If I were a Saints player reading these boards I'd be looking to get out as soon as possible. Drew hasn't had the best season but he's shown that he is a more than capable player and with the right coaching in the right team could do very well. And aside from the performances on the pitch he is a Saints fan and has shown time and again passion for the cause.

But people here just want to slag him off, just as they slag off every Southampton player it seems.

If you think that's passion I fear for your wife.

I don't get why people criticise Surman so much on here.

He's clearly got potential, and he's proven in the past what a good player he is. Admittedly, he hasn't been in the greatest form of late, but he's been playing in a poor side who arguably, have been mis-managed for much of the season. If he does leave over the summer, which is likely in my opinion, then I look forward to Surman proving people wrong on here and getting back to his best at a new club.

I'd keep DMG, I think he could be a decent player in Lg 1 with a decent Pearson like manager in charge.

I think Surman will go, not sure why so many are down on him.

I think he's a good player that struggled in a flimsy side. Put a couple of big bruisers alongside him and he'd shine.

All IMO of course.

Why do posters on here keep slagging Surman off? Does it ever cross your mind that if successive managers here rate him, that if he was picked for England u-21 and that if other clubs' managers and indeed commentators also apparently rate him, that maybe he is actually a good player and it is your judgement that is wrong?

It was the same with Oakley... another good player constantly slagged off on here.

I for one would be really sorry to see Drew go. He is a good player and a genuine Saints player ..one of the few who isn't just a mercenary. With the right opportunities he will be a premiership player at some stage in his career.

I have to agree with you despite 1 or 2 off games Drew has been a excellent player for us I will be sorry to see him go I think the lad has talent and has been 1 of our best outfield players good luck to him I wish we can have him next season

Well let's see. If Reading do buy him as they go up and he is playing 2 divisions above us next year, maybe you will reassess your opinion?

An awful lot of professional footballers and managers do seem to rate him as a tackler, and especially as a passer etc, judging by comments you read in papers or hear on radio and TV commentaries.

And Coppel has shown he can be a shrewd judge of players.

I have never seen anything to suggest he can tackle? He also also painfullly slow. Not good in the premier league. If someone will pay 2m we should be biting their hand off.

Happy to lose DMG, Surman, Saga, Skacel and Lallana for a bit of money. Maybe up to 6m between them, that could make a huge difference.

Like to keep the rest (except Smith) though.

Assume Rasiak, Dyer and John will leave too. All that must total 7m+ into the club and a huge reduction in wages.

Saga and Skacel will be off, Rasiak will have to be offered on a free as he still has a year to go. Surman will go which is sad as it means we haven't got the best out of an able local lad but Lallana is no loss even with his skill - he can juggle a ball but then so can Mr Woo. Smith is a car crash and Pulis has made as much impact as Yahia did in 04/05. Gasmi's only contribution was to bottle a tackle he was clear favourite for when Notts Forest scored their second goal. Molyneux musn't be allowed to obstruct Mills' progress - Mills is the pick of the youngsters for me - so he can go but if he wants to cover on a fringe players' wage that's fair enough.

Don't rate DMG but he's scored a few of late and might be a bit of a Kenwyne at that level. Dyer is gone and John's contract is up this summer. Would like to keep Kelvin and Euell (did I just type that?) if they are prepared for a big wage cut and JP Saeijs should be recruited if he's OK with L1 - he'd be one of the best players at that level. If Leeds go up I'd like Prutton to return as skipper if they didn't want too much for him if new buyers had some funds. Look out for Brezovhan the Swindon keeper if Kelvin goes to Leicester - awesome at that level and out of contract as Swindon cut back.

Why? He's crap but that's the price of a crap player now. 2m is nothing and someone will pay that for him. I'd value him at 200k max, but transfer fees are silly these days.

I was laughing at Chez's idea that Surman has a good engine and scores goals, not the price. I'll happily take whatever we can get for him.

Rumour on another thread. Somebody with info. on 'takeover',part of which suggests leading consortium has pre approved Surman to Reading for 700k. Make of it what you will. Obviously didn't get that fromthe Sun.

It is very hard to shine in a side that has been as fragile as ours. Drew has shown glimpses of form and I also feel with a manager who knows his job and is capable, Drew could turn into a very useful player for us. The same I think can be said for DMG. James has shown steady improvement from his rocky start and from all accounts Mills has done relatively well on loan. We need a good disciplinarian to sort out the team and with 3 or 4 additions we could have a fairly strong Division 1 side.

It is much to easy to keep on about the players in the squad but unfortunately for them they had to play in roles that didn't suit with little or no help from the management. Sort out the man in charge and I believe Drew and some of the others could flourish far more than they have so far.

I don't get why people criticise Surman so much on here.

because there are loads of people on here that despite going to watch games, quite clearly know **** all about the game.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion of course, but you only have to look at the slating of Davis, Davies, Oakley, Fuller, Jones in recent times who all came good (some quicker than others) to know that some Saints fans are clueless IMO.

Christ there were fans during the summer saying Safri was ****e. Jeez, what we wouldn't have done to have Safri all season, or Fuller...
